'Puke Watson is still a child'

Johannesburg - Luke Watson is still a child. That's why, said Leon Schuster, the rod should not be spared and he should be rapped over the knuckles quickly before "he does something like that again".

The so-called "rod" Schuster has chosen for Watson is a comical song about him on Schuster's latest CD, Dra die Bok.

Schuster's song, Puke Watson, is based on Watson's statement that he wants to puke on the Springbok jersey.

"His name is Watson. P-P-Puke Watson. Ek gaan hom boksem, want hy noem ons Dutchmen," sings Schuster.

Dra die Bok contains some of his old hits as well as new songs.

One of the new songs is Dra die Bok, written by the songwriters who wrote Bok van Blerk's hit De La Rey, Sean Else and Johan Vorster.

'The Bok is part of my psyche'

Schuster, who grew up in the Mannetjies Roux era, said: "Everybody knows how passionate I've been about the Springbok all these years. The Bok is part of my psyche."

That's why he is "de wetter in" about Watson's statement.

"How can someone who has been sworn in as a Springbok, who has toured with the men and was part of the clan, then turn around and say he wants to puke on the emblem? That's uncalled for."

Schuster said this statement once again revived the possibility that the Springbok might be removed from the jersey.

He found Monday's campaign that everybody who wanted to keep the Springbok should wear green, "fantastic".

Schuster said all he wanted to say to ANC MP Butana Komphela was: "KomPhêlla, kry jou stert in rat en kom ons los hierdie ding. There are so many things in the country that are not right that we can fix.

"Why take away something that works? Something that has won us two World Cups?"

In the production of Dra die Bok, raising awareness was more important than making money, Schuster said.

- The lyrics:

One day my daddy took me to the rugby game. But ever since that day I've never been the same. We were sitting near the tunnel when the Boks came through. But the bugger at the back, he puked on my shoe.

He wasn't raised man he was brought up. But he's bound to get a klap before the next World Cup. He is the duke of puke, he is the earl of hurl. He can vomit in plain and he can kots in pearl.
