Egoli hunk to get married

Johannesburg - Izak Davel, Scab in the soapie Egoli - Place of Gold, is getting married.

Davel confirmed that he had asked Mericke de Wilde to marry him.

De Wilde recently had to go for an operation to have "several cancerous growths" removed from her neck.

She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer two years ago.

Both were in the Southern Cape last week, where Davel was doing a concert tour. He said since the news about De Wilde's cancer became known, they had received thousands of messages of support and comfort.

Focussed on the Lord

"The messages keep us strong," said Davel.

He added that his fiancée was still weak after her operation two weeks ago. She would go for tests soon to check whether all the cancer was gone.

"Despite all the obstacles in our lives we have decided to remain focused on the Lord and all that is positive."

Davel can still be seen as Scab in Egoli, although he had left the set end of September to dedicate himself to his singing career. He is currently working on his second CD.
