Polokwane - The trial against a Limpopo farmer accused of dealing in magic mushrooms to the value of R310 000 has been set for December 3.
Thomas Rudman (35) of Silver Mists farm in Magoebaskloop near Polokwane was arrested last month after police confiscated the province's first haul of hallucinogenic mushrooms from his farm on September 18.
He was not asked to plead on charges of dealing in illegal drugs when he
appeared before the Polokwane magistrate's court this week and his bail
of R1 000 was extended.
His co-accused, a businessman, Robin McIntosh (38), who was arrested in
possession of 6.8kg of the hallucinogenic mushroom three days before Rudman
will also stand trial on December 3.
According to South African narcotics bureau (Sanab) the mushrooms allegedly contain the prohibited substance psilocyline and have the same affect on the body as LSD, including hallucination.
The bust was made after Sanab raided a popular rave club in Johannesburg in Gauteng on September 7. The mushroom is popular amongst people who are into the dance music genre.
Cocaine rocks, ecstasy liquid, dagga, heroin powder and 2kg of mushroom were confiscated in the raid and several arrests were made. - African Eye News Service
