Huge support for Idols hopeful

London - Labour MP Austin Mitchell has tabled a Parliamentary motion urging fellow politicians to support Pop Idol hopeful Kim Gee.
Ten MPs signed a Commons motion last week attacking Simon Cowell for judging the contestants on their appearance rather than their talent.
Now Mitchell has added an amendment saying that Kim, who weighs 95kg, from his Grimsby constituency, should be the worthy winner.
The original motion states that "this House ... believes that contestants should be judged solely on their unique singing talents and not on preconceived images".
Mitchell has added the line: "... and expresses its strong view that, judged on that basis, the singer Kim Gee from Grimsby will be a clear and worthy winner".
The MP said: "She's got a great voice and heaps of personality and I hope she goes all the way to the top."
Judge Pete Waterman criticised mother-of-three Kim for her appearance.
He said: "I do have a problem with Kim. I don't think she looks like a Pop Idol. She never has been and never will be."
Waterman likened her to a karaoke singer and claimed the public were voting for her "for the wrong reasons". - Ananova.com
