Baby you can ride Uday's car

Baghdad - Iraqi police officers will be able to enjoy luxurious wedding rides in the metallic pink Rolls-Royce of ousted president Saddam Hussein's flamboyant son Uday, an official said on Tuesday.

Deputy interior minister General Ibrahim Ahmad has offered the car to police officers and ministry officials when they marry, said Colonel Adnan Abdul Rahman, an interior ministry spokesperson.

The move was meant to honour their work, he said.

"Three days ago, we caught a gang trying to sell the Rolls-Royce that had been taken during the looting" which accompanied the April 9 fall of the Saddam Hussein regime, said Abdul Rahman.

"It is not the first time we have seized a car that belonged to Uday. We have already captured a Ferrari and a Ford that were his, as well as other cars that once belonged to his brother, Qusay, his father, Saddam Hussein, and other regime officials," he said.

"All these confiscated cars, except the Rolls-Royce, have been given to the finance ministry - in line with orders from the (Iraqi) interim governing council - to be sold at an auction, with proceeds going to the state," he said.

The 2000 model Rolls had been Uday's "favourite car among his collection of hundreds of vehicles".

Uday was last seen in the pink limousine in public on October 15 2002, when he turned out to vote in Baghdad during a referendum for Saddam.

Saddam's sons were killed in a raid by US forces in the northern city of Mosul on July 22.
