Killer wants sex change

Sydney - Families of the victims of a jailed triple murderer appealed to the Australian government on Thursday to thwart his bid for a sex change operation at the taxpayer's expense.
Paul Denyer, 31, is serving a three-year prison sentence for the 1993 murders of three Melbourne women. Denyer, who made headlines last year for his campaign to be allowed to wear make-up in prison, has asked about having a sex change operation.
Crime Victim Support Association president Noel McNamara said the government should not even consider his request.
"I think it should be hit on the head and hit on the head very quickly," he told Australia's AAP news agency. "He was put into jail as a deviant male and he should come out as a male - that's if he's allowed out at all."
Asked by detectives why he stabbed and strangled the three women, Denyer reportedly replied: "Just hate 'em".
A Victoria state government spokesperson said prisoners had a legal right to explore the possibility of a sex change operation, but added: "It's extremely unlikely that the state would ever support a prisoner in such a bid".
Carmel Russell, the mother of one of the victims, said she was sickened by Denyer's sex change request.
"He's a danger," she said. "If he's going to start dressing up as a woman when he gets out who knows what he's going to do." - Sapa-DPA
