08/12/2004 14:45 - (SA)
Germany - A lottery winner in Germany has turned to crime to finance his luxury lifestyle after his winnings ran out.
The 49-year-old, from Thueringen, Germany, is believed to have carried out dozens of burglaries to allow him to continue to live the lifestyle he got used to after winning more than £500 000 eight years ago.
Andreas Barnikol, head of police in Sonneberg where many of the thefts took place, said: "Apparently he had used it all up."
Police caught the man red-handed during the latest break-in and found cash, cellphones, jewellery and watches during a search.
They believe the man was behind at least 77 burglaries. He has admitted to some of the charges, which date back to October 2003. - Ananova.com
