Manila - A popular radio broadcaster-healer in the Philippines was wounded in a gun attack by a man who complained the victim failed to cure his smelly feet, police said on Friday.
Chief superintendent Josephus Angan said John Xeres Burgos Joseph, popularly known as Johnny Midnight, was attacked on Thursday by a lone gunman inside his house in the Manila suburban city of Las Pinas.
Angan said the suspect, identified as Ranilo Rose, barged into the victim's house and fired his pistol at the healer's driver and then shot the broadcaster on the left hip.
Midnight's driver was able to alert a nearby traffic enforcer who in turn sought the help of police in arresting Rose who by then was already aboard a passenger bus.
The 65-year-old Midnight was rushed to hospital, where he was treated and later declared out of danger.
During interrogation, Rose admitted he was angry at Midnight for failing to cure his smelly feet.
Midnight gained popularity in the 1980s for promoting the power of the pyramid for good health and a ritual called "toning" that could allegedly heal various ailments.
He still maintains a daily radio programme. - Sapa-dpa
