Humansdorp - It is a small museum with a huge ghost story. A clairvoyant in the town says there's a draft, even when all the windows are closed and she gets goosebumps all over.
It's in the back room where the ghosts scare visitors. There are six mannequins, dressed in old-fashioned wedding finery, opposite the exhibition of old funeral clothes.
People say it's the mannequins. They talk and do their thing while people are outside, but as soon as the door opens, they freeze into mannequin pose.
The manager of the Humansdorp museum, Sandra Diedericks, closes the door every time visitors leave.
"That mannequin," she says pointing to the one with black hair, "is watching me. She watches me along the corridor where I stand behind my counter."
Diedericks says even Awie, a painter who used to work there, didn't like the mannequin who was always "checking him out".
Diedericks accompanies visitors through the museum and when she opens the final door, she watches how they react. Children say they see other children dancing in the room.
A clairvoyant of the Eastern Cape pharmacy, Yvonne Naude, also visited the museum.
"It's definitely the mannequins. Here's something. The windows are closed, but here's a draft."
Among the mannequins there's a very old wedding photograph of Marthie Kruger. Maybe it's something to do with her?
Naude says: "It's possible. Where did you get this photo? What's her story?"
"It was in the garage when we started the museum. I thought it would match the other things in the wedding exhibition," says Diedericks.
"And the dolls?"
"We also found them in the garage."
Naude just before she leaves: "I'm glad I don't have to work here. My heart goes out to you."
Diedericks watches her leave, saying: "And just think - I washed them before I dressed them in their wedding outfits."
