Kiev - A sexually-frustrated bull killed a Ukrainian farmer trying to prevent the animal from reaching a herd of cows, said officials at the emergency situations ministry on Thursday.

The incident took place in the country's southern Crimean peninsula after the farmworker tried to drive a herd of 20 dairy cows past a three-year-old bull tied up nearby.

The bull broke free of its rope and made for the cows. The man tried to prevent the animal from reaching the females by trying to divert the charging bull into a nearby corral.

The bull, weighing an estimated 700kg, knocked the man down, inflicting critical injuries to his skull and torso. The victim died before emergency medical could reach him.

Hennady Basenko, a local official, blamed the incident on violation of safety rules. - Sapa-dpa
