Double standards of American media
28/03/2003 08:28 - (SA)
I find it ridiculous that the American media is saying the images of American POWs, dead or alive, are too violent, too gruesome to show to the American public.
These are the same people who hide behind their 1st Amendment right to publish anything they wish and to say that the American public is not accustomed to such violent images is a joke.
America is the most violent country in the world. We have more homicides, suicides and other violent behaviours than any other country and we can thank the fear-producing media for most of that violence.
During this war, the American media want to deliver sanitised, pro-American government controlled news so that we won't see the ugly horrific images of war.
If Americans saw the death and destruction in terms of human faces, Americans and Iraqis, instead of "firework displays" over Baghdad, we might demand an end to it.
Your coverage appears to be more objective and I thank you for that.
