LETTER
Two winners 'a cop-out'
23/09/2005 13:49 - (SA)
Cape Town - The response from News24 users to Lizette Kotze's letter about her disappointment that SA's The Apprentice (note singular) selected two winners, was unanimous.
Shortly after News24 published Lizette's letter ("Two Apprentices?"), irate feedback from users streamed in, maintaining that Tokyo Sexwale was wrong to choose two winners, and the reality show was indeed a "total letdown".
Here are some of the responses News24 received:
After watching (and following closely) the first American Apprentice (won by Bill Rancic), I was rather bored watching one episode (somewhere in the middle) of the SA version of the reality show. Now, after this article, I am not surprised about the pathetic outcome, but also SO glad that I didn't follow it at all! South Africa - it's time to step up a notch! The world's leaving us behind! - welman
Hey Tokyo, what you doing, man? You were the one in control and firing Apprentices like they were going out of fashion and yet you cannot make a decision to fire one last shot? What you're saying is if there's a promotion for one staff member and it comes down to the last two, give it to them both because management cannot make a decision. - mnaidoo
As far as I know it is called The Apprentice - singular not plural. This show had the potential to open up opportunities and give hope to thousands - Tokyo dashed the hope by not being able to make a boardroom decision - is this the example he is setting for the two new apprentices? - denys
The finale of the The Apprentice was an anti-climax. After such a long wait Tokyo threw us with some nasty spew. I am disappointed that he didn't have the balls to name an outright winner. I couldn't care less which of the two finalists were chosen - as long one winner was chosen. He owes the South African public a full apology and an explanation. The reason that he has given that it was a "business decision" is sheer nonsense and just a load of bull. Frankly, I think that we were ripped off and that is a feeling of many of my friends and colleagues. - kagisok
Lizette, These are exactly my sentiments as stated in your letter titled Two Apprentices? Tokyo himself needs to be fired for indecision. The end of the show was a huge let down - ChaukeS
I feel that we have been taken for a ride over the past 15 weeks. It is unbelievable what the outcome of the "15 week" interview was. I strongly feel that Zanele is not ready for so much responsibility, based on her experience. - lerato
I totally agree with the view expressed by Lizette Kotze on "Apprentices SA". SABC and Freemantle Media have made us, the viewers, a fool of ourselves by encouraging us to watch and wait for 13 weeks to see a badly-ended reality programme. - bonies
I cannot agree more! After weeks of looking for The Apprentice I felt that last night's final was a total anti-climax! There can only be ONE Apprentice - all around the world there's only one winner, but not in SA. Business is about getting to the top! Mr Sexwale really disappointed me by not taking a stand and picking ONE Apprentice. - Bernhard
I agree with Lizette Kotze's letter about The Apprentice or rather, the lack of one. Mr Sexwale always advised the candidates during the weeks of interviews to make difficult decisions, as it was a sign of good leadership. What kind of leadership is he displaying when he apparently could not make an unpopular decision? Not much of leader I would say - no guts to make a hard decision so rather he opted for a cop out! - kmoodley
I agree wholeheartedly with Lizette Kotze on The Apprentices issue. The only benefit I had was that I did not watch one episode of the so-called farce (thank God). This reminds me of what happens in a cricket match when you play for five days and then the Test match is a draw. - morne.kemp
