LETTER
More than a cartoon
07/02/2006 11:49 - (SA)
On the controversial issue of the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, there is a big difference between freedom of the press and the respect for another person's religion.
Followers of the Christian faith and other religious groups are wondering what the big fuss is about, since statues and pictures of Jesus Christ exist.
The difference is that it is forbidden in the Islamic faith to have any form of depiction of the Prophet.
A satirical cartoon - not just any cartoon - of the Prophet with his turban transformed into a bomb, is therefore totally unacceptable.
And just imagine the uproar should cartoons of Jesus Christ molesting young children be published in newspapers all over the world?
This issue is not about freedom of the press. Why can't the media respect the Islamic religion?
