If Oprah can do it...
09/01/2007 09:09 - (SA)
Dear Editor,
I read the article on Oprah and found this quote thought-provoking:
"I'm prepared to take care of all those costs of running the school in addition to the $40m it took to plan and build it. Obviously, I have a lot of money, but there are a lot of other people who have a lot more money than I do. If one person can do this, imagine what institutions and other people who have great, great enormous resources can do?"
Shouldn't SA's big businessmen step up to the plate? Why must an American talk show host come here and show us what we can do in this country?
They should open their well-lined pockets and open a few more schools. I'd say if just ten of these rich men and women did what Oprah did there could be five or more schools opened.
They should be openly challenged to do so if they don't have the generosity to offer their money themselves. Or is ubuntu too far from the ATM?
Charlie
