Lotto 11/07/2007 12:11
For all I care they can take the lotto away forever. It is a say to line certain people's pockets and a sin. - Me |

Anya the onion 11/07/2007 12:13
Relax, The point is not everyone is a compulsive gambler. And so the Lotto is used as a nice leisurable past time. "impovrishing yourself" - If i spend R5 to win R1 000 000. I'll do it. And if i don't win i'd feel ok as hopefully the money went to charity. The Lotto was a central means to assist chariies. without it the masses are like headless chickens with money in hand but no idea whom to give it too. I believe the Lotto was their saviour. Another ramble by me :) - MP3 |

Lotto ..... where art thou? 11/07/2007 12:22
Come back and make my dreams come true - but before you do, get your house in order - work around a new system and make sure you deliver within 30 days, the takings of your draws to the ones who are supposed to benefit.

Wishful thinking. 11/07/2007 12:27
I think it's wishful thinking asking people to give their unused Lotto money directly to charities!I agree with MP3, if I can have more than one chance to win 30million bucks by spending R10 a week, what a pleasure! Anya, I doubt people are spending their whole salaries on Lotto tickets either! Impoverish? Oh please! - Dylan Hunt |

a sin??? 11/07/2007 12:29
Surely you can't be serious? Yes, people make money from it, but hundreds of charities benefit from it. It is a structured way of getting people to give money to charities by means of insentive. I aggree with mp3 that it's up to the individual to decide how much they spend. - CJ |

Hmm 11/07/2007 12:48
I refuse to play the lotto. We are just enriching the BEE fat cats by playing it. I'd rather give money directly to the charities. The people running the lotto does NOT give a damn about the charities/poor people etc.. for them its just about the money, and it is sick. - Juan |

No chance! 11/07/2007 12:49
With the collapse of the Lotto and the missing R320m which just vanished into thin air i would never again play the SA lotto. This industry was run by buffoons who sank millions taking from the poorest of poor. I would see hundreds of poor people in line holding a single ticket hoping for the best. To answer your question, no, i did not save any, with the ever present depressing economy of ours it is just not possible. - navs |

Tens/ hundreds of thousands lose 11/07/2007 13:07
so that one person can win some money. And then it gets disguised as charity!! B/s.
Unfortunately, it is the people that can least afford it, that will lose the most. And Dylan, yes, there are people that spend their whole salaries on Lotto, and other forms of gambling.
I will never partake in an endeavour, where the only way that I can win, is for other people to lose.
It is a greedy, selfish mentality, which gets society nowhere. - KoosS |

lotto rubbish 11/07/2007 13:10
the only reason the powers that be want the lotto back is to once again line their pockets. please dont for a second beleive that its to help the charities out. nothing in this country is done for the benefit of others without a hidden agenda. im surpised the charities get anything at all. - nibbler |

hope 11/07/2007 13:10
There is nothing better in this world than hope.
i don't play the lotto often but i have come realize that for a lot of people it inspires hope. imagine earning R1,500 a month & u have been earning that for the last 5 years, it is safe to say without the lotto, the chances of these people making R100,000 let alone R1.mil are very slim.. The lotto gives them more things to look forward to on sat & wed nights.
Now that it is all gone so have their dreams & hopes.. - skarr |

Lotto 11/07/2007 13:20
Anya I would like to tell you that people go to casino's daily and spend almost a R1000 to R 2000 for a R2,50 ticket then the question is lets say R10,00 per month compared to R 5000, per month of Gambling at Casino's which is the better of the two(evils) the Lotto my sister but that just my opinion. - Selby |

No lotto for me 11/07/2007 13:27
I never have and never will play Lotto. Statistically, you're guaranteed to loose. Rather save R50 per month for your child's education. Problem with Lotto is this: the media only report on the few winners, but not on the MILLIONS of losers every week. And the bit on charity is just a cover to make players feel good. Let's face it: nobody really plays Lotto for charity. If they were serious, they'd donate straight to charity. They play it because of greed. - Mark |

Tatta ma millions 11/07/2007 13:31
Like all other charities and all other municipalities, departments and the divisions the govt is responsible for, there will be mismanagement. Close it down permanently, we couldn't care, the money hardly reaches the poor or any charity organisation. Just another way for the Govt to stuff its pockets. - Tatta |

lotto 11/07/2007 13:34
there's no harm for spending only R2 for the lotto, unlike spending for liqour/ciggar.it also keeps people busy just like faffie - mzwandile |

Annoying Anya 11/07/2007 13:53
For the past 100 days, I probably saved about R30. Wow that's alot of money! To tell you the truth, whenever I do play Lotto is when I go to the car wash. A lotto ticket costs me R5 a shot and from the times that I have been playing, I actually won a R25 or R30 back! Apart from this I think lotto does alot for charity as well. Juan you have some issues and you probably don't even put a cent in those child welfare cans. - FO |

50/50 11/07/2007 14:10
That's your choice Mark. I look at it as a win-win situation. I contribute to charity and at the same time I stand a chance of winning some moolla!!! Of which I had an opportunity to do a number of times. I must say though that discipline is an important factor. - FO |

a game of chance! 11/07/2007 14:20
At least a couple hundred people will win up to bonus plus four if not five numbers, which is better than reading of BEEE..deals that benefit a chosen few, and these winnings puts a meal on their table(s) and if you loose, better luck next time, that's lotto4life. Gambling on horse racing is as impovrishing, and who says what about it? where does the excess funds go to? at least there's some charity organisations that can bear testimony that monies were donated to them.

Lotto 11/07/2007 14:20
Why all the hostility to Lotto. If you don't want to play it don't. There are millions and millions of us who do, so chill out. Go and put the money in your change jar instead. - Song |

Standards 11/07/2007 14:50
Playing lotto is a personal choice and should be left at that. Morals/Standards are good, they become a problem when people try to force theirs down other people's throats. So whether I spent R5 or R50 doesn't mean that I should be judged by anyone. - Numi |

Lotto 11/07/2007 15:02
I never really played Lotto on any consistent basis. Every now and again I would spend R5-R30 on it.
My savings plan is more structured than that, but yeah, I would rather give the money to a good cause, and am not particularly bothered whether the Lotto comes back or not. - Bob |
