Eish eNatis!
12/05/2008 14:34  - (SA)

Want to know more?
Answerit can help.
  • Radebe: eNatis not the problem
  • eNatis database 'secure'
  • Hacker hijacks eNatis
  • Dear Editor, eNatis remains "Eish, Not available today, I'm sorry". After all the media hype a few months ago, the licence booking system remains a total sham.

I have been trying to book an appointment for a learner's license for the past two months, unsuccessfully I might add. Everything has to go through the so-called "central booking system".

You can never reach these people. The phone rings for hours without being answered. If, God willing, they do answer the phone you get told that there are no appointments available and when you ask when the appointments will be available, you get told they don't know and that you should call back in a few hours.

A wonderful system. All this and it only cost a meagre R600m, give or take. Any first year IT student could write a system that would accept appointments into the new millennium if needed, this is not rocket science, it is basic computing.

Another prime example of the new wave of incompetence that is flooding our once prosperous country. It is disgusting how everything that used to work is being screwed up. God help us all, cause soon we will be back in the dark ages.

    Trevor

You don't understand the fundamuntals Trever
    12/05/2008 14:44
eNatis is a BEE "intitiative" and sure everyone understands that there is no rocket science needed to design such as system. You need to, however, understand the bigger picture - viz, a few people became very rich and now someone else (the "fixer-upper") will also get rich. This is the "African" way! - bokkie

      booking learners problem
    12/05/2008 14:49
GO to book at limpopo, same day you will know your test day(same as drivers license),no phoning, just go there early around 7am join that small que then everything will be sorted(at 12pm you will be happy man again) no-phone call,no-nosense,no-fuss - dr phil247

      We must accept hey
    12/05/2008 14:49
Well we as citizens wanted to vote for change and we got what we voted for well ANC supporters in general so just accept that its part of the New South Africa and wait your turn even if it takes a few years. If you dont have the money to buy things from under the table you will get nowere in this country. O and yet we pay extra for this "wonderfull" working system everytime you renew your license or just ask for a copy. - Nastassia

      As a Software Developer
    12/05/2008 14:51
This is SUCH a ripoff. FIRSTLY, the forum software used is an OPEN SOURCE PACKAGE (Free). Then maybe, the developers had to handcode a few components. R600 million, for something I could have coded in a month (MAX), for a FRACTION of the cost. Some BEE dude laughed his ass off all the way to the bank. - Sinudeity

Stop the African way rubbish for once.
    12/05/2008 14:55
This Afro-pessimism should stop. Yes, there are problems in this country, but to say this is an African way is downright bull dust. Not so long ago they were crying to be called Africans, maybe they are right, just need to look at the mirror when blaming Africa. The system was introduced to fight corruption and illegal licences whose holders cause serious damage to our economy. - Libembe

      "Can't believe..."
    12/05/2008 14:56
Had my licence renewed after 5 years. This time it took twice as long as it did 5 years ago.The joke is that everything was working.Big up to the team at Waltloo testing station. You guys are truly the most useless in the country.South Africa proudly devolving. - jl

    12/05/2008 14:56
cost R1 million, the other R599 mil went into the pockets of corrupt government officials. And looking at who wants to disband the Scorpions, it is clear to whom the corrupt officials are working for. - Tired of this

      Boring comments...
    12/05/2008 15:10
wonder sometime show some people on here think...every discussion its the same people with the "this is africa" tune, nothing else to add.The topic could be about goldfish an some idiots will start with their this is africa remarks.Mind u the flip side of the coin is not so bright as well, with their blame apartheid routine...The system currently doesnt function properly but it has to soon or it will be replaced with a functioning one..trial and error - nWo

      Libembe - Not Pessimism
    12/05/2008 15:13
Just a BLATANT ripoff. ANY other software house could have done this for R50k. But no, you need a BEE partner, and some government officials, and the cost works out to R600 MILLION!!! Ive created booking systems before (One of our low budget airlines). It didn't even come to R100,000. YOU and ME (Taxpayers) are getting RIPPED OFF. Some BEE business man is loaded, and 1 or 2 government officials. - Sinudeity

Poor article, and presumes too much. - MJ

      Process
    12/05/2008 15:20
Trevor, Its clear that you do not fully comprehend the process involved. Whilst you are correct in your view that the average computer science graduate could write the application, this is largely irrelevant in the overall process. A single person, or a small team of developers, providing an efficient and cost effective solution, flies in the face of all that the government is trying to achieve. I suggest that you go back and study how African governments work in order make sense of eNatis. - Billy Bob

      SLEG
    12/05/2008 15:21
NOT A QUESTION OF POOR SOFTWARE - THE PEOPLE WORKING WITH IT ARE TOO "SLEG" AND OVERPAID TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE -- THEY ARE NOT INCOMPETANT NOR UNTRAINED - JUST PLAIN LAZY - FS

      I agree with Libembe...
    12/05/2008 15:23
...It's not the African way...it's the way of a corrupt administration kept in power by an ignorrant voter base who vote with their hearts rather than their heads. - jkc

Judging by the info Sinudeity offers these guys who have made their millions from a simple system which should'nt cost a fraction as much as R600mill should be refered to Stephen Hawking for "Africas Einstein".They're bloody geniuses!1+1=R600 mill.Astounding! - psycobabble

      Libembe...
    12/05/2008 15:45
