LETTER
Don't blame eNatis

  • Eish eNatis!
  • Radebe: eNatis not the problem
  • eNatis database 'secure'
  • Dear Editor

    The letter Eish eNatis! refers.

I would like to respond as follows:

Problems with bookings relate to capacity limitations at service centres, and cannot be laid at the door of the eNatis. System performance is outstanding and has been so for more than a year - www.enatis.com offers detailed information in this regard.

It is also worth noting that the eNatis booking system is currently used only in Mpumalanga, the Free State and the Western Cape. Gauteng operates its own booking service through its Shared Services Centre. It was developed independently by the province and does not form part of the eNatis. Problems experienced with the latter should therefore be taken up with the provincial department of transport.

In one of the comments to the letter a News24 user states that the eNatis website (www.enatis.com) is hosted on a US server, and speculates that this poses a risk in terms of data theft. The eNatis website should not be confused with the system itself - the former is merely an online public information service.

The eNatis and the data records referred to by the reader are stored in an extremely secure environment at local premises and cannot be accessed via the website.

    Philip van der Merwe,
    Media Liason Officer: eNatis

Dear Mr Philip van der Merwe

I appreciate your response I have spoken to you before sir after critizing you and Enatis and you very professional in you response to me and gave me more insight into the program. I have seen Enatis as an independant observer and believe me it is not Enatis but the actual DT processing methods that are at fault.Enatis is way over budget in development cost's that is not Enatis developers problem that is the useless ANC's fault and problem. Not at any of the traffic dept's is there a decent - bob

physical processes that work. My theory is dissolve the traffic dept and incorporate the metro police to be traffic custodians who have arresting powers where as traffic cops have no clout are rather pathetic....Hint of note the traffic superindent in CT has a army background and word is who cant direct traffic to the doughnut and water cooling area...Thabo mbeki you sir are a useless man - bob

I think the problem must be corruption, why is Gauteng implementing an illegal booking system? Where was the tender for the booking system advertised, value more than R20 mil? I have a friend who is a testing officer, bookings are vacant on a daily basis but test stations are not allowed to fill them. Who is gaining actually? - Joe

Living in the Western Cape, I found the system works fast and efficiently. Advice: relax, take some time to enjoy a scenic drive to your nearest small town and get your licence renewed there. Will take only an hour at the most. - taurus
