De Villiers 'is no saviour'
01/09/2008 11:03  - (SA)

Want to know more?
Answerit can help.
  • De Villiers: I'm like Jesus
  • Div: Boks not there yet
  • Boks defend fortress with fizz
  • Dear Editor

I believe I speak for the vast majority of "unpatriotic" (according to Peter "Twakkie" de Villiers) South African rugby fans when I say that enough is enough with his poor philosophical quotes, excuses and Biblical comparisons already.

If Mr De Villiers were anything like Joseph, perhaps he would also be able to foretell the future in which case he may be inclined to hand in his resignation immediately as any future for the Boks under his coaching regime seems doomed to fail.

As for the comparison with Jesus, well as far as I know, Jesus performed many miracles during his lifetime. Peter de Villiers has yet to perform one, unless one wants to regard coaching the number one ranked world champion rugby team to three defeats in a row - including two at home - whereby we now find ourselves ranked a lowly third behind teams that were both abject failures in the world cup last year.

The cold, hard fact of the matter is that the Wallabies were clearly a team with one foot-on-the-plane syndrome on Saturday. They themselves have admitted that they targeted the Durban game the week before and the match was pretty much a dead rubber.

On the other hand - and to take nothing away from the Boks - we played outstanding, structured footie with none of this expansive running from our own '22 crap. Once again Jake White's continuing excellent influence was very much evident. It has just proven once again that when we play to our strengths as we did in Dunedin, and forget this "expansive", run everything from everywhere rubbish, we are unstoppable, ELV's or not.

SARU has given the Bok team many "quacks" as coaches since 1992 - Macintosh, Christie, Mallett and White being the exceptions. Colour has nothing to do with it. All these bright sparks also had their own ideas of implementing "expansive rugby", "15 man rugby" etc, and all were huge failures with the Boks and their supporters being as always the biggest losers.

Surely the elite rugby team of South Africa deserves the number one coach in South Africa. Peter de Villiers is no saviour (to unfortunately quote a Biblical comparison yet again). Give us Rassie Erasmus since Jake doesn't want it anymore.

    The Truth
    Durban

      Bull Sh@t
    01/09/2008 11:11
Please who gives anyone the right to say such crap... If you dont give the man a chance how will he be able to perform - its most pathetic how South Africans are so quick to judge and say "FIRE HIM"... All this negativity wont do our country any good, but make things worse. - Tim

      Mickey Arthur
    01/09/2008 11:12
Why don't we hear the same sentiments for the cricket coach???He just lost 4 ODI's is a row but nothing gets said about him??? - Kenny

      funny that
    01/09/2008 11:13
Its funny how everyone who has something bad to say about PDV has to slip in the Phrase "Colour has nothing to do with it". - kash

      Typical
    01/09/2008 11:14
PDV's Jesus comments not withstanding, it is the kind of rubbish that forced me to stay out from SA rugby. It is stupid people like this who knows nothing about rugby, except his racial preferences (always note when someone claims race is not an issue that is indeed an issue, otherwise why mention it). To claim that Australia who could have met NZ with a 4 point advantage had no reason to play well is ludicrous and dishonest, but typical of this type of idiocy. - Len van Heerden

      Unpatriotic Rubbish!!!
    01/09/2008 11:15
I cannot believe the bitterness of the unpatriotic South Africans, the people wanted PDV to lose and now that he is becoming successful they are carping and vinegary.the introduction of black players have given the Boks the steam,Jacobs, Beast and Jonkikhaya you made me proud boys!all we can say is well done PDV..Once again the unpatriotic chorus led by The truth will sing their pessimist nonsense here! - Kolobe

      Stop complaining about Springboks coach
    01/09/2008 11:17
Since the appointment of Pieter De Villiers their has been nothing but complaints. Either he is talking to much or he is picking the wrong players or picks the wrong combination`s. Wow for a proud nations you are a bunch of moaners. I am a proud South African and the one thing I can say is that for the first time I see transformation "win or loose". Its my country on that field and not only a specific racial group. The previous coach did nothing for transformation. - JDH

      Truth be told:
    01/09/2008 11:17
It's actully called a "dead grubber", not a "dead rubber". Look what happened to the SA cricket team in their "dead grubber" and look what it did to them subsequently in the 50 overs version. No international is a "dead grubber". You loose faith in yourself, you loose faith. With or without rubber. - TB

      Hell yes!
    01/09/2008 11:17
Tim, unfortunatly when you mix politics with sport - negativity is what the outcome will be...live with it - viva Jake White - cvz

      Too early to tell!
    01/09/2008 11:17
Give Peter a chance! Remember, the same thing happened to Jake White. (In his own words he described '06 as 'the year from hell') So give the guy a chance! Remember: Under PDV we BEAT NZ in the 'house of pain' and that is something that Jake White ALWAYS wanted to do! - Juan

      Thabs
    01/09/2008 11:18
Doesn't his great record as u21 coach stand him in good groung? I mean, the two world cups acheived there alone do in my books. Looking at his success there and the fact that he was all for transformation, then he is the best man for the job. The same thing that's hapening now, happened with Jake White. He just needs to find his rhythm, that's all. And he will have a place in history as the man who changed the face of Rugby and did a good job at that. I just might be wrong... - I'm no expert, but...

      Hear Hear
    01/09/2008 11:18
About time... I watched the majority of the RWC 2007 on SABC 2, and who do you guess was their expert... None other than PdV. At that stage already I was hammering on the fact that the guy knew nothing of Rugby and yet he was selected as coach. He talks too much about nothing really. They should use his hot air to pump up the balls on a Saturday... As for Rassie, I would see him in the position any day, pity he does not have enough melatonin... he will never get the job. - Nic the Greek

      Ag whatever man
    01/09/2008 11:19
Appropriate response to a record defeat of the Aussies - call for the coach to be fired. The Truth and so many like him has their heads so far up their backsides, nothing PdV does can convince them that he knows what he's doing. If we lose it's the coach, if we win it's the players. Where was the call for the players to quit when they were knocking everything on and losing every ball in contact the last 2 weeks?? But no that was PdV's fault. How stupid. The Truth, you embarress yourself. - chops

      Selective
    01/09/2008 11:20
PDV as a black man will never be good enough in this country and in the game.... Even if the boks win all their games, they will give credit to the players only, and forever regard him as out of his depth. South Africans are a sad racist nation, and people need to start looking carefully at themselves... PDV has become a scapegoat for all white people who are disgruntled over Transformation in this country...ITS ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!! - Emile

      And another thing...
    01/09/2008 11:21
PdV never said he was like Jesus. That is just the media twisting his words around like they always do. Go look at a transcript of the interview. Only idiots and ignorant people believe everything they read. - chops

      Chance
    01/09/2008 11:22
Well done to the boks, everyone played very well, black and white, and I must say Beeeeeeaaaaast, you go man. But with that, we are still last on the log, why play like champions now? Lets see what Pieter can do at the end of the year, give him a chance, maybe we are seing Pieter accepting that expansive play is not the way. Start kicking out of our 22 etc. - R

What nonsense - I agree Len
    01/09/2008 11:23
Dude, for real, your contiunued rantings about the SA coach, your absolute love for Jake White, it's geting old. If once you'd offered some sort of objective view I might take you seriously but this is ridiculous. To say that every time we win it's thanks to JW?? In that case, every time JW won it was thanks to Kitch. Please please give it a break. I'm with Len on this one. - Marcel

      Racisim
    01/09/2008 11:23
This is has got nothing to do with patriotism. Lets stop disguising this disgusting thing called racism behind fancy words like patriotism. These people that are labeled as unpatriotic are simply racist. This bunch of people simply refuse to recognize black managers and administrators due to their hate for the black man! This freedom is still incomplete and they way that most white people have become ungrateful and continue to refuse to accept change, will one day spark a chain reaction! - Hero Nakamura

      We didn't need a saviour
    01/09/2008 11:24
Not sure why PDV has to be given a chance - no other coach in SA history has been given it so easy. Everything was handed to him on a silver platter...and he messed it up. Not only has he reduced our brand of rugby, but he has been hugely succesful in making SA the laughing stock of the rugby world. Our victory on Saturday was awesome - but it had nothing to do with Snor and everything to do with the Players. PDV unfortunetly, is untouchable for the next year and a half! - Tanya

Be carefull the "know it alls."
    01/09/2008 11:25
While i agree with u 100% im afraid you are going to get ripped apart. Peole like kolobe who know NOTHING about rugby are all going to put this win on PDV. What his kind don't understand is that we achieved the best win ever over Aus playing the exact opposite way to what PDV has been spewing forth since he took over. We played structured, phase rugby as opposed to his "expansive" gameplan and look what it did. But try tell the kolobe's that. - mo

      Jake - nothing special
    01/09/2008 11:27
Jake White only managed to win one away game in the Tri Nations competition while he was coach of the Bokke ? he coached 18 Tri Nations tests had 8 wins of which 7 was at home which means he had a win % of only 44% - for the best Bok coach in the history of the game this is not good enough ? Mallet had a success rate of 50% and had 2 away wins. Jake end his career at a win of 67% and currently PDV has the same win %. Jake White fooled all of you as there is nothing special about him. - colin

      PDV vs players
    01/09/2008 11:27
our performance on the weekend was due to players PLAYTING better, not being coached better. ONe has to know when to stop critisising a coach and start looking at players themselves. Dont agree with how PDV was selected, but am not going to blame him for players underperforming on field w.r.rt skills. Boys did great on Sat though. - AJ

      Dead Grubber?????
    01/09/2008 11:27
TB, never heard of dead grubber in my lifetime, as I know it our reader has it 100% correct as "dead rubber". On a more personal note I have had to eat my words regarding AD Jacobs he has been a stand out the whole tri-nations. WRT our coach I think we need to give him time we were missing John Smit - Matfield still has a thing or two to learn about being a leader! - LPC

      you dont speak for us...
    01/09/2008 11:30
Poor and pathetic letter! "I believe I speak for the vast majority of "unpatriotic" (according to Peter "Twakkie" de Villiers) South African rugby fans" ??? its good to see that the fans are standing up for pdv and together we will move forward!!! - SA FAN

      5 of 9 record...
    01/09/2008 11:33
...and yet we are reminded daily that he is useless. He has won more than he has lost beating the Champions of europe and Argentina in addition to a win in the house of pain. It is indeed racist mindsets that spend eternity trying to minimise his achievements. Even Juan is asking for PDV to be given a chance and to me that abouts sums up The Truth to be nothing but The Whinger. - Thembalabantubonke

PDV caught btw a rock and hard place
    01/09/2008 11:33
It's really to be black. PDV get velified wen the team looses and a White man gets credit if the team wins. Damn tht must heartbreaking!!! Will he weather this storm i ask? Nwey, thks Peter and the boys for a gr8 victory on Sat. - Bee

      The Truth my posterior
    01/09/2008 11:33
Very presumptuous of you to call yourself The Truth when you should be calling yourself The Bile. There is no merit in your argument, a victory against a world class team is a victory not withstanding. People like you are the flip side of the coin to people like Cape Town kid and Kolobe. Opposite sides but still the same coin. I hope Pdivvy does not get disheartened by morons with moronic views. - Doorboot

      This is such negative crappola!
    01/09/2008 11:34
What a load of rubbish. The way you grind out this negative drivel amazes me, why do you always have to complain after we win a test match? Yes, Div has been far from perfect, but so was a plethora of previous coaches too - and I'll bet you were dead quiet then! Quit being so damn negative and taking everyone down with you, if you love Jake so much go ask him if you can move in with him. - Zee

      Colour?
    01/09/2008 11:34
Okay kash, colour has everything to do with it. He is a political appointment and has no clue what he is doing. Tim, how many more chances does he need? the aussies hardly even played and now we are all 'mighty' once again... ignorance is bliss when you don't understand the game and you want to be politically correct. - Tim2

Give him a year... then judge.
    01/09/2008 11:34
Once he's got some time to build up stats over a relevant time period, we will be able to build graphs, analyse the stats and be objective in making judgements about his coaching. Forget the crappy comments, forget his game-plan antics. Give him time and laud him or burn him by the results of that stats. It's too early. - JohannC

      Agreed
    01/09/2008 11:37
I completely agree with this article, it was a great test built on solid structures and a decisive game plan. DIV refuses to acknowledge this and maintains this is "his expansive game". The test was run by the senior players putting their foot down and playing to our strengths. Great win but don?t be fooled Div is still in the dark. - LM 01

      PDV needs time...
    01/09/2008 11:37
Although I don't agree with PDV about his strategies...I can see the method to his madness! The guy is crazy at times, and I find his media comments a joke - he should stop with his little quips! With time I think that he can develop his gameplan...and rather NOW than in 4 years when we defend our World Cup! Jake took a few years to get the team to World Cup Winners...maybe PDV can do the same. Time will tell... - KS

      If Australia had won..
    01/09/2008 11:39
..they would have had a 3-4 point advantage in the Tri-nation standings. A 4 point lead going into a home test would have meant NZ needing a bonus point victory while denying Australia one. As things stand, NZ need only to win, meaning they will play more disciplined rugby rather than an expansive one in an effort to get 4 tries. An expansive game would have led to more mistakes and the OZ could have easily picked them apart. So, it is height of idiocy to claim the match was a "dead rubber." - L van Heerden

      The Truth....
    01/09/2008 11:40
To say that the Aussies had one foot on the plane is the biggest load of crap ever heard! Why wouldn't they want to go into the final match against NZ with a 4 point lead? And that in their own backyard? They were completely outplayed by a team who brought back the structure of White and expansive vision of PdV. Go Bokke, Go PdV!! (although I'm yet to be a fan of his) - Stormers

      Dead Grubber?
    01/09/2008 11:40
Dead rubber is a term used in sporting parlance to describe a match in a series where the series result has already been decided by earlier matches. The dead rubber match therefore has no effect on the winner and loser of the series, other than the number of matches won and lost. - L

One Swallow dont make a summer
    01/09/2008 11:43
we came last in the S14 ... bottom line! Div spends way to much time talking crap to the media. He has nothing to be proud of ... his record is abysmal given he had the WC champions and world no1 side to start with. But hell it was great watching the ozzies get their ass kicked! - John

      Has he really proved himself
    01/09/2008 11:43
I think we should give PDV another chance, but I do agree that his remarks are idiotic and he mumbles so much that one has no idea what he is saying. I do believe he inherited the world champs and we should have done much better in the Tri-nations and some of the bok performances where really lethargic and without any clear game plan. Let?s give him and the team another chance and I hope that the Durban fiasco made him and the team realise that the South African public will not accept mediocre performances Viva the Bokke!!! - Nathan

      PDV - a racail appointment
    01/09/2008 11:43
Face the facts boys, PDV is only there because of one reason, there are many better SAn coaches better equiped for the National Coaching job, but; they are unfortunately White, and one specifically is even called Mr White! Sorry to all the politically correct above, but in SA it is always about race!! It has been obvious over the past few weeks that the problem was in motivation, leadership and tactics and not in the talent of the players. - Leo

      Proteas
    01/09/2008 11:44
The way the Proteas have performed in the last 4 ODI's, a lot of questions should be asked about the coach. - allan

      with your sentiments
    01/09/2008 11:44
It's amusing how Bok supporters are unpatriotic for booeing the SNOR and Boks, but Trevor Manual and all those coloured supporters that DO support the All Blacks are NOT UNPATRIOTIC, what twisted logic is that... Come on SNOR be a devil and walk on water like a proper Jesus. - I agree

      Springboks
    01/09/2008 11:46
The current crop of players is by far the most talented group of rugby players in the world. They deserve the BEST coach and PDV simply doesn't have the experience of top flight rugby. - werner

      PDV
    01/09/2008 11:48
Give the man a chance!!! Like we gave all white coaches a chance before. I will stand by the BOks like in the apartheid days. Proud coloured - Shannon

      Amazing
    01/09/2008 11:48
Can you believe what you just read. Times change.Get over it. WE are world champions for 4 years.THink back to when Jack lost test matches and the people like you wanted him fired as well. The guy is a good coach and will be judged after the world cup. He won in Dunedin and just gave the Aussies a hiding.I would love to know where they grow people like you becasue they should do away the with the lot of you. - adam

      negativity
    01/09/2008 11:49
I believe this constant moaning and negativity has a far greater affect on the team's performance than the coach does. Test matches are won by the guys on the field on the day. If they dont have our support and we put them under too much pressure - they will not perform, no matter who the coach is. - greggo

      this is crap
    01/09/2008 11:49
When the team performs badly, its PDV's fault. But when the team performs well, the credit is due to the players. This is inconsistent nonsense. In the past 6 weeks we lost badly, but we also won fabulously. So lets see how things go towards the end of the year before we judge too harshly. And this whole thing about PDV calling himself Jesus is being completely taken out of context by the media. PDV is a bit of an eccentric character, but at the very least give him credit where it is due. - witseun

      He's okay!
    01/09/2008 11:52
Listen guys, he's not had time to prove anything yet. Give him another season at least before making comments like "FIRE HIM". Look at it this way. We have had world cup glory with South African coaches! Lets get a South African coach for the soccer team and see what happens :) - Grubber

I agree with Tim; Complete Bull Shot
    01/09/2008 11:52
My prediction is that under Pieter de Villiers we will be the first country to defend the world cup. - niels

      Give PDV a break
    01/09/2008 11:53
I can guarantee you if PDV was a lilly white boer seun who came through the coaching ranks of Stellenbosch not one person would be bitching and moaning - perhaps only a few "souties" from the Sharks - tonsil

      @Hero Nakamura
    01/09/2008 11:55
There is no such a thing as a black manager, by the way i'm looking forward to that chain reaction. - Martin

      Nic the Greek
    01/09/2008 11:56
Odd that PDV manage to win under age world cups when he has no knoweledge of rugby. Perhaps he is life Jesus performing miracles like beating Wales, Argentina, NZ in the house of pain and recently Australia by a record score. BTW, it is called MELANIN and not melatonin - Len van Heerden

      Coach
    01/09/2008 11:59
In a secret vote, most rugby players and supporters will have Rassie coach them, rather than PDV. Not because his non white, but simply on merit. Kolobe you can bitch and scream as much as you like, but those who love the game know better. Those, like you, who just loves the whole black/white issue, have never done rugby, any other sport or the country any favours, except maybe in your own racialy twisted mind. The upside is: We have help for people like you: Shrinks - Boerseun

      Shame
    01/09/2008 11:59
Lets leave "Jesus" alone and not quote him unless in Church while praying. Race has nothing to do with being the best, I know it sounds lame, but if you are a true sportsman you would like to be called the best - not because of the colour of your skin, but because of what you achieved. (I for one dont want to be in a team because of my colour or my religion) - ASC

      SA Rugby
    01/09/2008 12:00
Can't we please leave this alone - and let the coach and players get on with it and focus on the game. Sure we will win some - then we are the best and we will loose some - and then heads must roll. Give PdeV a season or two to prove himself and then either sing his praises or call for his head. In general I don't really follow South African sport beacuse of politics but give them a chance. - MickyM

We expect PDV to take our nonsense when the Boks lose
    01/09/2008 12:01
So maybe we have to take some of his when they win. And I think we need to have some clarity on the world rankings. At least 3 of the last 4 RWCs have been won by a side that was not ranked number 1. That ranking is a useful statistic, no more. And there's an old saying: "A fool uses statistics as a drunk uses a street lamp - for support, not for illumination." - Big Bad Bob

      Do we have short memories?
    01/09/2008 12:03
The way that people go on, you'd think that Jake White walked across water to his job interview, that angels sang and shone light around during his first training session, and that the Boks crushed all comers by huge margins every game whilst he was coaching. But I don't think that was actually the case. - Big Bad Bob

      lol
    01/09/2008 12:03
?? i like the fact that you quickly steal the Dunedin game for yourself when you know, talking bout what miracles has PDV done, that that is one!! i'm a big supporter and had doubts as did everyone who knows rugby of a win in Dunedin! after a century it could be considered just that... a miracle. but i always enjoy letters like this... you guys, with NZ and Aus supporters from SA just argue for us anyway. keep up the letters. they make me laugh. - gary

      Well Done !!
    01/09/2008 12:05
Well done PDV for taking the world champions to the wooden spoon.Having the nucleus of the world cup team and winning 2 matches out of 6 in the Tri Nations is great. In his first year as coach with a team that lost everything Jake won the Tri Nations.Mediocraty is apart of our lives (ESKOM,Telkom)so therefore PDV did well. - EBC

      Bokke
    01/09/2008 12:06
It is very sad to see everybody fighting again, it seems like nobody cares if we win or lose, it's all about who's black and who's white. C'mon people, we thrashed the Aussies!! Nokwe for president!!!! - dexter

      crap!!
    01/09/2008 12:07
for someone who's alias is "the truth" , you write a lot of crap!fact:Jake white won 2 matches in his 1st tri-nations in 2004.. peter won 2 from his 1st in 2008 with record wins nogal.so what's the difference..i'm tired of everyone comparing him to Jake the whole time, Jake is gone, deal with it. Peter is incharge. deal with that. instead of whining the whole time about p.d, be 'patritic' and support the springboks regardless of the coach.. or else, in the words of Charles Nqakula- bugger off - THE PROPHET

Sacking Jake, BAD! Appointing dV, not bad.
    01/09/2008 12:10
Anyone who knows anything about rugby could tell you it was a very poor decision to drop Jake White. He was a superb coach. I don't think dV is bad, far from it, but he made huge errors in judgement with his new 'expansive' style, only later realising you need men at the breakdown quickly against the top sides; the game invariably goes to the ground no matter what you try. I think he's found some balance, and the future looks bright. Transformation? Jongi was the only local african on Sat! - Fenrir

      Unjust comments from SA couch
    01/09/2008 12:10
A couch is employed to couch,a reporter is employed to report news and public opinion. The facts are clear,De Villiers report card shows a 30% success rate.Who gives him the right to judge public opinion,in a Bible context, the way he did.Welcome to the real world Mr de Villiers with your comment you opened yourself for more public scrutiny!!!!!! - Anton

      @ Kolobe
    01/09/2008 12:11
you said it! Quote "now that PDV is becoming successful" unquote - he never had the success to begin with, and doesnt deserve his post - end of story. - cvz

      Rassie...nonsense...
    01/09/2008 12:12
Its amazing how most people would like Rassie to be coach instead of the PDV. It is truly a sentiment held by most "white" south african springbok supporters that a "coloured" man will make a mockery of "their" beloved game. Rassie could not get things right in his first year in charge of the Stormers. We just came off a record win against the Aussies...and just like i thought it would people would be mentioning how it was the Wallabies playing badly and not the great play of the Boks. Typical! - That Guy

      PDV is not white...
    01/09/2008 12:14
he will never be an accepted BOK coach irrespective of the results. Point Blank. - tshepo

      Sad state of affairs
    01/09/2008 12:15
Can we pleaseget constructive here. Give PDV a fair chance. It is people like Boerseun that makes me worry!! And yeah maybe we are a sick racist nation............. Funny how we as South African's do not see the good and value in people in the public arena!!!! Let us support our boys - they are still a force to be reckoned with!! - LS

      To Kolobe and the likes...
    01/09/2008 12:16
i find it amusing that when we loose, you say it's out of form players (who happen to be white) fault and not the coach, yet when we win its the wonderfull coach and all the black players. Face it,you guys are the racists, it was a excellent team effort, and lets see what PDV does come end of year. - Mart

You all can go on all you like about my supposed racism (Did I at all mention that he is a black man?)
    01/09/2008 12:18
The fact of the matter is that we won in spite of him rather than because of him.Quite frankly Len,Kolobe & co.,I'm rather disappointed that all you people can do is continue to play the weak race card when trying to defend yet another failed affirmative action appointment.Just remember one thing, this man is in the world spotlight. His failings cannot be swept under the carpet so easily. - The Truth

      De Villiers
    01/09/2008 12:22
Let's be objective - the Boks won this match by playing standard Sprinbok rugby, and playing it well. So De Villiers cannot take much credit. But what did they beat? Due to injury, several australians were the third and fourth choices, and as for the hooker, he could have been playing for the Boks!! - Michael

      Downward Spiral
    01/09/2008 12:24
Saturday's victory just hides how really bad it is still going to get with PDV in charge. Australia was already thinking about Brisbane and therefor did not stand a chance. We are now ranked 3rd but definitely a distant third. This will slip to 4th when we lose to England at Twickenham in November. Then a 2-1 loss against the Lions as well as a repeat Tri Nations last place for the boks next year. Rassie will then start picking up the pieces hopefully in time to retain the RWC in 2011. - Pierre Willemse

      @THE PROPHET
    01/09/2008 12:26
The difference being that Jake White won his first Tri-Nations in charge despite winning and losing two in 2004 (the format was shorter then).Get your facts straight! - The Truth

What a load of sour grapes.....is that a lot of humble pie I spy with my little eye? What a bunch of racists we spawn in this beautiful land! NOWHERE else in the world can such a beautiful victory be greeted with so much negativity! We lose, it`s because of the coach. We win, the players did it for themselves! What a load of crap! You see how pathetic racism is? Sad sad sad..... - nathinyce

      WTF
    01/09/2008 12:32
Are you stupid or what, why always the coach, typical South African. My son plays under 16 rugby and I have more fun watching them, than your stupid Bokke, who for professionals play like idiots,is the coach on the field giving away penalties,I wish your Bokke faced my All Blacks or Australia in the world cup under Jake to see the results, grow up you idiot, what is happening to the cricket coach?Mr.B - Mr.B

      PdV 2008 vs JakeW 2006
    01/09/2008 12:33
    2006: Win 5 from 12 2008: Win 6 from 10 (so far) - Koos

I actually cannot believe some of the racist, nonsensical responses here!
    01/09/2008 12:34
They are world champions people! They deserve more and we as their paying supporters deserve more. This letter was not about race (unlike some of the replies which I got!).Nokwe is brilliant as are all the other "black" players since you had to mention their pigmentation, but their coach just doesn't cut it.He has taken them from champs to also rans in 6 months! Why? - The Truth

BEAST - man of the match
    01/09/2008 12:34
All the nonsense let loose here makes me sad. Beast should have been the man of the match. A high school winger could have scored the 4 tries Jonki dotted down. Beast, on the other hand, was magnificent in all facets of the game. - Al

Stop the in fighting and support the change
    01/09/2008 12:35
Why all the negative comments about the coach and the team. Be the rainbow nation and support them win or loose. People wants rassie to coach them but what good has he done for WP, or can we still call it WP with all the imports. Give the national squad a chance as players still need to play for the country and coach - We will see in time - JDH

      One Game
    01/09/2008 12:38
I'm still not convinced. SA played a great game... Australia sucked (watch the replays for the errors if you don't agree). Still nice to have a win - but one win does not make you champions (We still end last in the Tri-Nations). - Robert

      K*K
    01/09/2008 12:38
Jake was nothing without the help of a certain Autralian b4 & during the WC. What has Rassie done for the WP super 14 team ? Jake's game plan was no different to the English WC's game plan. Remember that a Bulls certain coach H Meyer did NOT like Jake's game plan as well i.e. +- 3-4 years ago. - YM

      THE PROPHET
    01/09/2008 12:40
Shame, let me help you bit, in 2004 only 4 games were played by SA in the 3N, we won our 2 games in SA and lost the 2 away, but we earned some bonus point away. We then won the Tri Nations in 2004. In 2004 the IRB awarded JW coach of the year, SA team of the year and Burger player of the year. Does that make sense or should I type slower. - LM 01

      Experiece
    01/09/2008 12:41
Can one of you expect enlighten us on the experience Jake White had before he was appointed the Springbok coach. And maybe lets compare his experience and achievement to PDV before he was appointed the head coach. It will probably suprise us that PDV is more experience of the too except with a wrong color?!! - PP

      WC 2007
    01/09/2008 12:42
The way we played all our games in the WC (except ENG 36-0), we would have lost to Aus and NZ in the semis/finals if we played them. Jake White has been glorified the way PDV is villified - unrealistically and unfairly. - Eduardo

to the truth :read some articles
    01/09/2008 12:42
explain to me how a top team would allow another top team to give them their worst hiding in History.. ever! there's no way Australia would just allow that especially ahead of the deciding game against the A.B. read some articles, every one is Australia is questioning Dean's CREDEBILITY AS A COACH after this drubbing. just give credit where credit is due.. and no, it wasn't because of Jake White either! - THE PROPHET

      @mo,fortunately I have a fairly thick skin
    01/09/2008 12:42
Somebody has to say it for what it really is.The players are to afraid to say anything bad about the guy as they will get dropped faster than a ton of bricks, and others won't say anything lest they get given a racist label, but as PDV would say..."ja,well you know, always a moerse lot of kak in between".Unfortunately he has taken us from the palace into the pit in this case. - The Truth

      get rid of him!
    01/09/2008 12:44
I will support my team regardless of anything, im a passionate and very patriotic supporter, but how on earth can we have someone who is clealry unqualified as the Springbok coach????? Give the guy a chance? just how much of a chance should be give him? when we lose to england because we cant do the basics, is that to much of a chance? or when we come stone last in the tri nations because there is a fundamental lack of team play and absolute and utter basics. then yes, GET RID OF HIM. - Alex-bokkie

    01/09/2008 12:48
Mate, get ur mind right and stop with the hating and one dimensional sentiments. Jake received a 49-0 beating by the Aussies...and we all understood....Jake got a 45 point jacking by the All Blacks in 2006 (that game was over as a contest befor half-time, remember?), Jake won the Tri-nations and world cup..great news hey. Has jake won in New Zealand? Has Jake ever put 50 on Aus? It all goes to show that comparisions are just baseless agurment points...Mickey Aurther?? - Glen Mothata

I often wonder if we were facing each other during the discussions if we would be proud of ourselves when vilifying each other? The day when ALL of us can stop this name calling that will be the day we will start growing as a nation! Just enjoy the game the support for our 'Black' Springboks is starting to shine through! - SPIKE

      Puppet
    01/09/2008 12:51

WELL SAID - DIV must go
    01/09/2008 12:51
Well said, this guy inherited a World Cup winning side that was working like clockwork and managed to help us finish bttm of the tri nations log. He did not get the job in merit, so therefore he must have got it because of his skin colour. So that makes him undeserving. There really are not too many ways to dice this up, but the 'who cares if we in, as long as we are black' brigade wil always only see one side. - Juan

      We are what we think.
    01/09/2008 12:52
Our Countries moral is rock bottom. This manifests in the sports results (Olympics, cricket etc.)Not withstanding all the negativity I am ready to change, to believe and to be proud of this Country. The negativity off a few extremists is influencing everyone. We need to speak-up and effect reconciliation and ownership for this Country. Speak positive and contribute. Please also be respectful for the feelings of fellow citizens. - Johan
