ANC 'playing with people'

by
2009-01-12 10:09

Dear Editor,

The ANC's launched manifesto is just a case of broken promises being revised!

The Eastern Cape was the chosen province for the ruling party's bit election manifesto launch but I am appalled and disgusted by this.

I am from the Eastern Cape and I understand the problems in the province which makes it one of the least-developed provinces in South Africa, from road infrastructure, to educational resources in schools, to recreational activities for children etc.

The ruling party still chose this province as their launching ground for the elections, filled with promises of better life for all and all that jazz. I think they are playing with people's lives; people who they know are struggling and dying to hear good news. Yet again they make promises to these masses, promises that have been debated over and over again by opposition parties and promise that the ANC hasn't fulfilled.

At the end of the day the masses went back to their home where they have inadequate food or shelter and the ANC members went to parties with expensive champagne and decorated venues that cost a fortune to celebrate how they have seemingly "won over" the Eastern Cape because the masses filled the stadia.

If I was in the Eastern Cape I would have probably gone to the stadium not because I am an ANC supporter but because I wanted to hear what they would say as a Cope supporter. A lot of people also went to see the people they normally see on TV and a lot of people went because such events seldom happen in the Eastern Cape. ANC T-shirts were given out for free I suppose as well.

For the ANC to assume that everyone that was there was an ANC supporter is a huge mistake. I find nothing exciting about their manifesto, we have heard it all before!

The uneducated will continue to swallow this garbage as long as there is a free t shirt in it now and again. That is why they don't want our people to all have education. I am for uplifting the poor - not dragging everyone in the country into the gutter. May the ANC never get a two third majority again. And hope somebody who delivers ends up with Eastern Cape. They have had a really raw deal from the ANC.
TSHEPO 1/12/2009 10:20:24 AM
What other party offer to the Poor, nothing only ANC has the capacity to deliver the mandate to the poorest of the poor... Cope is concern about the electoral process and the scrapping of the AA what will benefit the Poor?? Cope was form of anger and it has nothing but confused the people?? Cope is just a political enrichment of useless people like lekota & shilowa .. Onlly anc can deliver and thats a promise. ANC it has loyal support base not cope with empty promises... Vote ANC for a better life for all...
Juan 1/12/2009 10:20:59 AM
Every single time the masses are stupid enough to believe the anc promises. They STILL live in squatter camps, 14 years later, whilst THEIR ministers drive around in luxury, fly around the world, etc. So if they're stupid enough to believe this all the time, they DESERVE theire living conditions. I live quite comfortably, but I hate to see 1000's of rands of MY hard earned tax money go down a bottomless pit of corruption.
Smanga Zulu 1/12/2009 10:24:17 AM
ANC 'playing with people'?? What people, if I may ask? Do you mean the 80 000+ people who showed up on the day to support the liberation movement or a select few who have access to the internet and computers? If the ANC was 'playing' with people, why are they still supporting it? Would you support someone who is 'playing' with you? You write: "For the ANC to assume that everyone that was there was an ANC supporter is a huge mistake" - Even some of the journos who were there were ANC dear :-)
Zaid 1/12/2009 10:26:17 AM
Do the ANC really think that the people are stupid, or is it simply that we have stupid people in the ANC?
Kal-El 1/12/2009 10:28:31 AM
Forget about politicians lies. The only way to improve the ANC performance is to increase opposition. FACT: The stronger the ruling party, the lazier they get.
jack 1/12/2009 10:31:40 AM
Same old stories, can't wait for the elections. Viva COPE
Cape Town Kid 1/12/2009 10:32:59 AM
As a Copout, you would have a problem with the manifesto. Why,simply becos they are looking at the interests of the POOR and not the newly found Neoliberals(Copouts)who in fact have NO POLICIES.Yes ANC is biased to the poor and we are so thankful that you have left as it was the Copouts who prevented and hindered delivery to the poor. You filled your pockets at the expense of delivery and now, the ANC can begin to deliver!
Morné 1/12/2009 10:34:44 AM
Nomveliso , your letter does reassure me as a DA supporter. Your eyes at least were opened and you are no more blind ! I wish the many "blind" ANC supporters can experience the same miracle and come to their senses. That could actually lead to a better democratic SA without racial discrimination. I hope the miracle can spread throughout this country.
gong 1/12/2009 10:38:12 AM
that is the nature of politics, same promises all over again and the sad part is those who are most disadvantaged are the first people to run to the polls and make their mark for the ANC!
Sello Makgafela 1/12/2009 10:38:28 AM
Nomveliso, no woder why Eastern Cape is so underdeveloped as you say. It is because of cheap thinkers like you. Did you ever stop and ask yourself why some leaders in that province were sacked (premier included)? Well, considering your comments, I obviously don`t expect you to understand this.
Philani 1/12/2009 10:41:35 AM
Your rhetoric, is nothing else but smark of jeolousy at the turn out, if people went there to see peole they normally see on TV, so you meaning people that cramed COPE'S launc in Bleomfontein went there to see Lekota. COPE is still looking for a province they will win, while ANC, will add, EC to its list. The ANC is still the only party that represent the poor, so the poor went there(ABSA)to show support and that they still favour the ANC. By the way we got new members fro UDM, catch a wak.
nthatuwa 1/12/2009 10:42:36 AM
Some of us are now well educated on the ANc tactics. So well eduacted we cannot possibly fall for them anymore. It is however, unfotunate that our poor people are played by these heartless people. This morning in the news there was a report, though it seemed like a campaign,of a place where people struggle & all of a sudden there are two houses built & our people are happy to see the progress. The official interviewed said their party, not department, was committed to make changes.ANC campaing I tell you
LUGWADU 1/12/2009 10:43:04 AM
I became involved in the activities of the ANC, as early as 1990, when I was still a school boy. This is the organization that earned me a lot of sworn enermies, because of the ruthless manner in which I defended it,s policies and dully adopted programmes. It,s a movement I was immensely proud of, until the time when the shirts bearing the image of President Mbeki were set alight. This happened right infront of the currenT ANC President. I LOVE ZUMA BUT I HATE THE GANG OF THREE. VIVA COPE. AMANDLA!!
nthatuwa 1/12/2009 10:45:19 AM
For ANc to all of a sudden care about the poor prior general elections. If our people are still not aware of this, then I'm afraid we'll continue putting the WRONG PARTY INTO "POWER".
Badger 1/12/2009 10:45:39 AM
Now lets pread the word, Shall we ???
Mike F 1/12/2009 10:46:58 AM
The ANC is shameless & insensitive. How do they explain the Eastern Cape as a home & stronghold when the EC is the weakest in terms of governance & service delivery. This is the extreme of taking expectant voters for granted. Duncan Village & other parts of the EC is a disgraceful monument of the ANC's lack of servant leadership, lack of empathy for the poor & the marginalised.
ChrisR 1/12/2009 10:48:35 AM
Sad, sad, sad and in the process people die because of a lack of health services and Hiv.
jack 1/12/2009 10:48:48 AM
Those people did not go there on there own , the anc bussed them in otherwise there would have been much less people, and don,t forget about the free t shirt ( wow ), some fat cats family got the order.
Deano 1/12/2009 10:49:07 AM
The sad truth of it is, that no matter which party wins, even COPE, the promises made in the begining are nothing more than words. In a perfect world, those "words" should be taken as a binding verbal contract, which would then force the winning party to implement the wonderful changes that they promised the people. Then we would see things done.
Ukhandampondo 1/12/2009 10:49:55 AM
And stop yapping and yapping about the ANC as if COPE has something good to offer. Why not focus your energies on what COPE has to offer because nobody seems to know what's the difference between you and them? Your moronic thoughts and hatred for the ANC would do COPE any good. Your leaders are still the same idiots that lied to the masses for past 14 years and I just wonder what qualifies them to be saints now.
FISH 1/12/2009 10:50:02 AM
Interesting to note that they intend to extend the school feeding scheme to High Schools, which is a brilliant idea. Just a pity to note that they have been unable to feed primary school kids for the last few years due to infighting and corruption. Seems the children of the Eastern Cape are not the priority, lining the pockets of fatcat poloticians is more important. VIVA Change, VIVA Cope!
Luzuko 1/12/2009 10:50:08 AM
I wish they could have taken some time off their Manifesto pre-launch gala dinner and visited thousands of people living in shacks especially those in Duncan Village which is at the doorstep of East London, anyway what could be more important to them than spending more money on stupid dinners and parties? You know what they say a picture is worth 10000 words... http://www.reflector.com/multimedia/dynamic/00093/APTOPIX_South_Africa_93778f.jpg
American History X 1/12/2009 10:51:28 AM
What can the ANC offer that they did not produce in the past 14 years. They have inherited an infrastructure that worked, an economy that was sound, etc.. what is left? The lives of those who needed them the most did not better - in fact, it got worse!! People do not want to hear Amandla anymore - they are hungry, and they need food, water and electricity etc... not hymms of a revolution that has long been gone. They need protection from murderers, thiefs, rapists etc... who can help them?
Sane 1/12/2009 10:51:36 AM
Spot ON. You will get hammered by the people following the currupt though...
Scott 1/12/2009 10:55:50 AM
I agree with you 100%. Viva Cope.
jackey 1/12/2009 10:55:52 AM
You are spot on , The ANC wants you to believe that they have won the eastern cape by bussing people all over country and giving free "vote ANC" t-shirts to the poor and making it look like the venue is being filled with people from East London...They get votes from the poor to keep the elite few rich...that to sum up the ANC.
MXO 1/12/2009 10:55:58 AM
As a Cope supporter what do u thing should happen? I am from the EC too and I was at the stadium. I was not sure who to vote for but now I am certain that at least the ANC still considers people from my village. I wanted to vote for Cope until they decided to do away with AA and BEE. Plus as much as I don't like Zuma, he's a better candidate than Terror
Rian 1/12/2009 10:59:13 AM
"now, the ANC can begin to deliver!". Haha! Please explain how such a small number of break aways was able to hold back the party for so many years. Like all left leaning parties. The ANC is only interested in enriching themselves while taking away personal freedoms from the people. Also please explain how Zuma will ever give up the presidency when he is facing jail time. That man plans on being president for life.
Juan 1/12/2009 11:01:48 AM
ok, PLEASE explain to us HOW ministers enriching THEMSELVES and theire families is helping out the 'POOR'. Or are you also one of those stupid enough to believe the anc promises year after year?
Just me 1/12/2009 11:05:59 AM
I beg your pardon, where in the world have you seen any party fulfiling all their promises, funds and all sort of things get in the way. just shut up and do your bit to improve our country. let us wait for the COPE and other parties Manifesto and let the people decide. fighting and pointing fingers is not considerd a vote. funny the more you make a mockery of ANC the more i fill i have to defend it as i fill we have terrosist in this country out to steal our democracy. hope to see US emigration
gong 1/12/2009 11:06:14 AM
.........that those who always fill stadiums are the poorest, because they have nothing but hope for a better life and politicians feed from that! its a pity, but then again they are politicians and politics is a career! i would do anything to keep ahead in my career, why shouldn't they??? i wont fall for such crap
silver 1/12/2009 11:09:38 AM
As you've pointed out, the ANC is targeting the people most in need, promising them the moon & the stars, but we all know they're only interested in the votes of the impoverished struggling, uneducated, uninformed, fickle masses; coz they know that levelheaded & conscious people wont give them a second look. a bunch of unruly gangsters & cronies abusing power is all that they are.
gong 1/12/2009 11:10:42 AM
1.never campaign in a rich urban area, they already have everything they need and wont believe your crap.2 have a candidate who can dance and sing.3 distribute a lot of free t-shirts.4 build a house for 1/2 poor families and publish it in a crapy, cheap newspaper.5make the same promises all the time, they wont know the difference
Suzie 1/12/2009 11:11:19 AM
I am sure that the DA will be able to deliver service as they are currently doing where they are in charge. They will look after the poor. They have been fighting for years for them! This is an honest and hard working party with no corruption. Are you scared to give a women the chance?
Martin 1/12/2009 11:12:18 AM
The ANC has lost the plot, nominated Julius Malema for a position in parlement, well, with the President only having a grade 5 and Malema with a grade 9, this country are so doomed.
snoopy 1/12/2009 11:12:29 AM
And Zuma is STILL singing his 'machine gun' song in this day and age? The mind boggles. Feel very sorry for the 'masses' though, blaming them for voting the same empty-promises government in again is a bit harsh. What can they really do? Is COPE really going to be different and deliver? These politicians are the heart of evil.
Sam 1/12/2009 11:12:48 AM
What most of you Educated Superior Rich People do not understand when you call the Poor People Stupid is that we don't suffer from amnesia... People understand who created their poverty and who fought to deliver them from it. I don't like what TM has done and I don't believe JZ is any better but there is currently no alternative for the poor. I was born poor, lived poor and pray that I will die with the poor and be raised on Judgement day with the POOR! Go have your rallies at the SCC, we will go to Jabulani?
Tracey 1/12/2009 11:15:16 AM
If Zuma had wisdom and integrity, he would've stepped down until the corruption charges have been finalised. But again, this is not about the people but the individual. There should not be place in our democracy for an immoral and possibly corrupt president. Besides the corruptions charges, how many kids did he have out of wedlock, which means he cheated on how many wives? Is that a true example of a leader. The only difference re manifesto is "same script, different cast"...lol
Denzil 1/12/2009 11:15:42 AM
There was a saying that was used to bank on something. It went along these lines...The Postman always delivers. This insinuats you would get your mail no matter what the weather.I have news for you lighty...since the ANC took over the saying has changed....The Postman NEVER delivers...Think about it.
Johan 1/12/2009 11:15:55 AM
It is a shame to hear too what extent the ANC is using the poor too win the election this year. My lady that works for me comes form East London and confirms what the writer of the column said a big number of people will not vote for the ANC, and yes she was also at the stadium.
gong 1/12/2009 11:17:27 AM
6.never deliver on your promise, what will you promise again in 5 years.6 always remind people about apartheid, symphathy will get you everywhere.7 alienate white people, they dont make a majority any way.8 employ uneducated officials, they always appeal to the poor. 9 disregard women rights, its unafrican for them to have rights anyway and lastly, always remind people about apartheid if they forgot no.6
Objective Viewpoint 1/12/2009 11:18:51 AM
... it gives me my daily chuckle. Realise this everybody, the bible (whether you believe in it or not) says, "It does not belong to man to direct his own step." and "man has dominated man to his own injury." ANC sings democracy while it's winning and throws it's toys when somebody challenges it - like a spoilt toddler. The rest of political party's lie & promise just as much, not just in SA but worldwide. Bring on Armageddon, it will sort this world out once & for all.
Sinudeity@Gmail.com 1/12/2009 11:19:27 AM
Now that they are under threat from being overthrown. ANC voters are suckers. They give you one tap, and the ANC 'delivered'. Or, give out food parcels on voting day, which makes you support them four more years. How easily you trade your citizenship for a food parcel. Time for a truth rebellion, Truth Revolution, against the counter-revolutionaries (ANC).
Point Blank 1/12/2009 11:20:19 AM
The DA brought up a very true statement. How are the ANC going to fund all these promises they made? All top economists in South Africa have agreed there is no funding on the three year rolling budget for these "promises". They want to tax us even more, we already one of the most taxes countries in the world, we already reeling under massive financial strain.
xp 1/12/2009 11:20:20 AM
Useful idiots by communist standards. I wish people would read Das Kapital and how the 'masses' are mere pawns. Tsk tsk. Good luck SA, I can see a break up of the country in the next decade.
bob 1/12/2009 11:20:37 AM
Read the greetings from the manifesto launch speech. It shows the attitude and pecking order of the ANC led governments towards non anc and other ordinary south african citizens. http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/Politics/0,,2-7-12_2451821,00.html
Alien Dude 1/12/2009 11:21:39 AM
NUMBNUTS......they have had plenty of time to "deliver." Wouldn't have expected anything less than "supporters" being bussed in and a free t-shirt.What a bunch of morons...you and the rest of the sheep above included!
WAKE UP NOW! 1/12/2009 11:22:46 AM
You guys are going on about ANC / COPE... Not one of the two is sound ( at least COPE slightly better) Why do you not support the DA ?? It is a democratic party with sound principles and a great leader. Its policies are for all in this country. Come on now , think . Support the best party.
Hang Man 1/12/2009 11:23:18 AM
Judge Chris Nicholson?s judgement in the Jacob Zuma trial has just been overturned, meaning that Jacob Zuma will, in all likelihood, be recharged by the NPA for fraud. How can he be our next President The ANC has lost the plot
zolani sixolo 1/12/2009 11:24:06 AM
...Wether you like it or not,The ANC once more made a lot of people eat humble pie.I would rather be part of the "uneducated" and be deceived by these 'HEARTLESS'ANC people than being led by a POLITICALLY BANKRUPT Leader in the form of Cope`s President, After watching and painfully listening to him last night exposing himself in Public, on National TV!!!
Alien Dude 1/12/2009 11:24:31 AM
dude....they were there because they had nothing better to do other than get their free shirt because they are too poor and can't afford one. They really have been "helped" by the anc haven't they?
Sonny 1/12/2009 11:26:26 AM
See Zuma and co. promised no more corruption etc. Ha Ha! You can fie ministers if they do not perform but how is Mr Vavi and Cosatu going to handle rot at the root? Hospital workers, corrupt officials, nurses who do not perform? Big bluff because these are the useless fools who voted him in as their union leader. Big problem this, be very afraid! Workers have become virtually untouchable and they are Cosatu members!
Landless 1/12/2009 11:27:29 AM
What we need as black people is to help ourselves and start up organization like Afrikaner bond. (Afrikaner group) We must involved all black people from different political parties and use resources at hand to develop ourselves not politicians because they have their own agenda and it stinks. Please lets help ourselves my people nobody cares about you but yourselves. WAKE UP OR YOU WILL BE FOREVER SECOND CITIZEN IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY.
jo 1/12/2009 11:27:39 AM
You provbably work for the anc and live in big house whilst doing absolutely nothing. The only reason the anc have to care about the poor is to milk them for votes. Wake up my man !!!!
Peter Maluleke 1/12/2009 11:29:05 AM
If the anc wanted to educate their people then they have failed miserely the last 14 years. The first group could have been economically active without any bee and aa tags around them. This proofs that the anc do not want to educate their people. Why not? Same old promises and that is what it will be just empty promises. Vote not anc. I will vote DA. Look what they have done for their people. Vote with your brains.
Sinudeity@Gmail.com 1/12/2009 11:31:18 AM

The scary thing is that the best the ANC can do for leadership is Zuma and his cronies.Look at the civilized world...if a politician is thought to be involved in shady deals they normal resign of thier own accord....but guess this is africa, they got to be pushed! How pathetic the ANC is viva COPE!

LID 1/12/2009 11:39:21 AM
had 14 years in which to keep their promises to the people. What happened?, they only enriched themselves. First of all, when the ANC came into power, they closed down teachers traning colleges, now there are a shortage of teachers. Our health system is not working - not enough doctors and nurses, our safety and security has fallen by he wayside because of corrupt officials, the list can go on and on. The ANC never delivered and they never will, empty promises as usual. LD
Filemon 1/12/2009 11:39:26 AM
had Nicholson's flawed judgement overturned - and was already seeking a "political solution" which confirms his guilt and the he has the audacity to "promise" to get rid of corruption in the Circus manifesto. Does that mean he will step down? Viva Zapiro who is vindicated for his cartoon
mlungisi 1/12/2009 11:41:50 AM
You are not only playing with people. You are also misleading people. Rural Development, National Health Insurance, just to name few are the new policies of the ANC. You obviously do not know what ANC is all about. I suggest you read the ANC manifesto. WORKING TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE! ANC lEADS!
Francois 1/12/2009 11:42:30 AM
"why are they still supporting it?" Because they dont know of any better? Is that obvious?
GeePmb 1/12/2009 11:43:22 AM
I find it laughable that JZ and the ANC promise to stamp out corruption when the man himself constantly gets off on technicalities rather than actually proving his alleged innocence. How can I believe anything he utters about corruption when his own slate is tainted with corruption allegations? Furthermore, if the ANC wants to increase tax on my hard-earned money, they can forget ever getting my vote.
Thokozani 1/12/2009 11:43:23 AM
Sorry sweety, but i'm one of the people who says ANC is for real, if you were in East London you would have seen that yourself. WE need optimist in this country, not people who see wrong everytime they look at each other. Let's make this easy for you, join cope. 2009 is the year for the ANC, mark my words
Ghetto 1/12/2009 11:46:07 AM
Tsepo well said . People are not being told garbage for my knowledge , I see that when the former Pres was in power no one said all these harendus things about him with empty promises . IF you go back and see what Jacob Zuma has done for folk that stay in the rural and ... places you will see that the man is not about empty promises , what people must do is if JZ is elected as Pres of SA we should all stand by him and work with him to better this country .
wb 1/12/2009 11:48:30 AM
I would love to know how many die hard ANC supporters that are well educated and/or are contributing more than R2,000 tax on a monthly basis?? This is a very interesting case study!
Zoo 1/12/2009 11:49:26 AM
Now that's an oxymoron if I ever read one!! Just checek their track record and you'll see just how "pro-poor" they are. Of course it depends on what pro-poor means, for the supporters it means getting out of poverty, for the ANC it means keeping them uneducated and in poverty and promising them a way out. An educated middleclass electorate will spit the ANC out and the ANC knows this too well...
jackey 1/12/2009 11:49:45 AM
LOL !!!!!!!!!
Jabu Pule & ANC supporter 1/12/2009 11:51:53 AM
Lets see who is playing with people. Shikota leaders lied to people when they left ANC, they still lied when they formed COPE, now they lied about electing leaders. They will still lie when they draft the constitution.... DA is runner-up.... DA is confused..... Zuma lost in SCA... Viva Zuma Viva ANC.
Truth 1/12/2009 11:52:37 AM
The ANC will raise taxes to fund this massive spending, the only problem is that half will go into someones back pocket! I dont think Cope will do any better, but if they can take votes away from the ANC, I will definitely vote Cope!!! The ANC needs to be brought down a peg or two! They need to be afraid that the population will vote them out!!!
wayne 1/12/2009 11:54:01 AM
Why as south africans are we so cought up on ZUMA. I was a ANC supporter until I saw what they did to the storm hit people in KZN. THe rich ANC dudes took the food to their homes and handed it out to their members only. Is this helping all of the poor? I will vote DA, as they are the only ones who havent broken a promise YET. The ANC hurt me when I saw their actions, but the poor joined to get food, is this fare? NO! Vote a party who hasnt lied to the masses
Meshack 1/12/2009 11:54:05 AM
You are talking a waffle boet-The people of this country fourht along side ANC for the demise of apartheid in this country. Now you are free and you start talking balony.People like you must clean your head so that you can think properly. This country changed a great deal beacuse of ANC and thier people.
Nick 1/12/2009 11:54:33 AM
Countries get the governments they deserve. Our 1st ANC government under Neslon Mandela could not have been better, however, the Mbeki era proved to be a miserable disappoinment: corruption and failure to deliver on just about ever mandate that the electorate had given it, being the order of the day. Will a new ANC lead government under JZ be any better? I seriously doubt it. This election will not be about how smart the parties are, but how smart the electorate has become. THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE
Benny 1/12/2009 11:55:31 AM
Lekota and others , when is the membership of COPE going to ellect the leaders. Madisha is the money carrier but NOt in leadership. ViVa ANC.
Teutonic Knight 1/12/2009 11:57:46 AM
How do we as the public increase service delivery, alleviate the poor, create more jobs ect, ect? Simple we force the ruling party to perform. How do we do that you ask? Easy vote for the opposition, any damn party, its the only we to keep whoever governs on their toes by voting them out if they under perform. Simple hey? So get over this blind loyalty to ANC they are not loyal to YOU!!!

Who said the people who were at the stadium were poor? From where do you draw your conclusion? Or is every black person at a stadium supporting the ANC poor in your eyes? Stop this prejudice and get off your high horse! I was there on Saturday in Port Elizabeth and you bet your last penny, I am not poor by any stretch of imagination. Were you at the stadium taking names of poor and rich? Didn't think so... But you sit there and say those people were poor, some proof? ANC got support, lots of it!
Azonic 1/12/2009 11:59:59 AM
So many ANC supporters here go on about how the "ANC can not deliver" on their promises. THEY HAVE HAD 15 YEARS to deliver!!! What makes these (empty) promises any different to the exact same promises they gave at previous elections? If you are dumb enough to believe them still, be happy being a gardener or street sweeper. Fools.
Uncle UBA 1/12/2009 12:01:54 PM
Many people always believe that something is dangerous when they have experienced it.If people are warned in advance, they take the gravity of the problem to be a mere suggestion.Jacob Zuma has send enough signals that he is ''an inadequate leader'' but still, some people, who could be the mnajority want to ''feel it on their skin in order to believe it'', by then , any effort to ''mitigate Zuma'' will be too late & expensive-this is what happened with Zimbabweans & Mugabe !
Annie 1/12/2009 12:02:34 PM
I use to employ a gardener and char but since I was retreched due to EE I had to let them both go. That means 3 people are out of work. This is happening everywhere. When will you people wake up and see EE hurts the poor as they loose their jobs too.
COPE MEMBER!!!! 1/12/2009 12:05:01 PM
I guess we all know the saying " If u dont stand for anything you will fall for everything" South Africans are so poor that they take everything to heart .Sies on the anc for preying on the poor with they broken promises.
Wildfire 1/12/2009 12:05:21 PM
Surely , the DA will get my vote as well , Peter.
Azonic 1/12/2009 12:07:16 PM
AA - Example: So you like the idea of a LESSER qualified black individual getting a job ahead of a perfectly qualified white individual? Can you not see the consequences of that? Smart people not getting jobs and leaving the country, leaving idiots to run things purely due to skin color? As time goes by things will just get worse for everyone. Best man/woman for the job, NOT BEST SKIN COLOR!
Nick 1/12/2009 12:14:44 PM
Thank goodness people are starting to wake up to the Low Life ANC. Now in an election year it starts its propaganda campaign. I hope the voters see the ANC for who they realy are. Running scared, JZ to face the music again, this time, hopefully the charges will stick, unlike the ANC's promises and pledges that will fade away after the ellections. Viva Democracy
Mlindos 1/12/2009 12:24:27 PM
While incompenteny rains supreme at the ANC as it has been in the last 15 years, this is just another swan song. 1994, 1999 and 2004 we voted because we thought things would change, but guess what it got worse, recent matric results, condition of our roads, need I go on. If you voted Cope you'd still be fooled, they were part of the failure of the last 15 years, a name change does not make them smarter. Sadly the poor and uninformed will continue trying to write on water, voting for failure
South African 1/12/2009 12:24:58 PM
MXO, please explain to me clearly how AA and BEE has ever benefited you personally!?
Masti 1/12/2009 12:26:02 PM
one of the fundementals of the ANC Manifesto is the erradication of corruption and corrupt officials in govt. BUT how can this happen when Zuma is a corrupt individual himself ? I hear a lot of promises, however, the facts prove otherwise...At least other parties are not making promises that they can't keep !!!
Cape Town Kid 1/12/2009 12:27:38 PM
in order for access and benefits to be people driven and people involved(ie the poor first). It is only the ANC who understands this as they know that the interests of the poor is paramount. There is no way that the ANC will seek to appease the economic elite. It is their selfish attitude and greed that makes them feel so aggrieved. Why only becos they believe they are the first in line to BENEFIT from everything. So shout and cry,I'm not listening!
marie 1/12/2009 12:35:15 PM
i second your thinking
Jabulani 1/12/2009 12:39:30 PM
The so called Leadership of cope are the product of the progessive political organisation(ANC) and most if not all were part of the ANC lead government over the last 14 years, therefore wats is it dat mbazima and co can do different now? cope belong to individuals and Nomveliso your comments says a lot about your family, education, idiocy as wel as your level of political understading/awareness. Viva ANC
Mandla 1/12/2009 12:45:52 PM
The SA media lied to us, telling us that the ANC is losing support in the Estern Cape. The masses are once again behid the ANC. Its not only the poor who turn out in support of the ANC, most educated and middle class people like me were there to support the congress. Call us stupid but the ANC lives and leads. The ANC will win the elctions are again and silence the liars (Media including News24)
Jonas 1/12/2009 12:48:02 PM
I applaud you! Please people, listen carefully to Landless. It's the only way to go. To wait for the government or BBBEE or AA to help you, is a waste of time. Unless of course, you have buddies in the ANC.
marie 1/12/2009 12:55:25 PM
Your article reminds me of Vuyos interview this morning. Promises, promises, promises and still nothing gets done. Third visit back to the town and there is no improvement. ( five cabbages, a vegetable garden Ha! ha!
MasterMind 1/12/2009 12:59:40 PM
We rest our case about the uneducated masses following the ANC, great grammar and beautiful spelling - what a JOKE you poor uneducated fools are!!!!!
Piet Van Bieltong 1/12/2009 1:01:07 PM
What you highlight is that politics is seldom about uplifting the plight of people, The Eastern Cape being case in point, with an accusation finger pointed at the ANC for failing the people. Funny how from the previous administration who were party to this, now sitting in COP are now Angels but then this is politics. I remember it was the NP in 1994 when 100 000 people filled FNB to here Mandela their spokesperson said they were bussed in from outside Gauteng, talk about learning from your master
JK 1/12/2009 1:08:40 PM
I read in another article that Patricia de Lille said if the ANC had kept their election promises over the last 14 years, everybody would have had a job and a house by now. I agree. Who are you going to believe - the guy that keeps on promising or the one actually delivering it? My vote goes to anyone who can deliver i.e. NOT the ANC!
Michelle 1/12/2009 1:10:44 PM
If the government had to lead the life as a monk and do good for the people you wouldn't have this struggle for power. Our children in poor communties have free education and get fed at the schools and yet you still get parents that use the all pay money for alcohol, rape there own children or worse, these same parents choose not to send there children to school for a beter future and BLAME IT ON APARTHEID instead they want them to lead a life of crime...Why? Because they are taught crime pays....
Tony 1/12/2009 1:13:37 PM
The uneducated masses are NOT STUPID, they only so eagerly want to believe the crap that they are fed. We have to feel sorry for them, but don't feel sorry for the actually STUPID lot that should know better than to vote for such blatant liers. SORRY!!!
GailC 1/12/2009 1:14:02 PM
In 1901 population showed 2 million Original Africans, 560,000 Mixed Africans and 300,000 others, and 1.1 Caucasian Africans. What are the numbers today? How many come from North of us and how many were born and bred here? How many hold the major wealth from each group? 4 Million CA's are left, balance is OA's + ?=42 Million. How did OA's get to be so many?
Zee 1/12/2009 1:15:07 PM
The ANC is deliberately not pumping ALL available resources into education for a reason - they want the masses to stay uneducated so that they do not realise what a bum deal they are getting. When you are uneducated it makes it that much more difficult to see the blatent corruption going on with this government. But how to make them see the light? As a bastion of the ANC, surely the E.Cape should be in better shape after 14 years of ANC rule. Sadly, it is actually worse now.
Ands 1/12/2009 1:15:24 PM
Your thoughts are very interesting and I believe you are on the right track. White people myself included have learnt to survive AA and BEEE and sanctions in the dark days of apartheid. We have become resiliant ...we do not wait for handouts...they dont come. Productivity is the key word here something that has still to be learnt by the majority living in SA. Good attitude Landless ...may you not be landless forever.
Francois 1/12/2009 1:16:49 PM
"There is no way that the ANC will seek to appease the economic elite" Grapgat, tha ANC is the economic elite. Good God what planet are you from?
leelee 1/12/2009 1:21:29 PM
What is being forgotten is that majority of the masses(the poor)aren't even the taxpayers that keep these politicians in the lap of luxury, yet they are the ones being targeted to get the votes. The ANC are just re-iterrating what they have said every year for elections, with no delivery. The ANC came into power with an infrastructure and destructed as they went along.
Stryker 1/12/2009 1:24:08 PM
The media lied to us? WTF is your problem? So the media said the ANC was losing support but now that you attended a rally and feel the ANC has support you will vote for them again? All I can say is with reasoning like that, you should vote ANC, its where you and your like belong. Silence the liars? You lot are so unbelieavably stupid its actually quite sad.
Sam 1/12/2009 1:26:54 PM
It will be very scary indeed if the future of our beloved country is decided upon by the votes of the rural, uneducated masses. It is time for the more enlightened middle-class to speak up and warn the rural folk of the dangers of believing all the good news that the ANC promises, yet again. They say "seeing is believing". We have not "seen" enough good, consistent governance to trust the ANC for another term, let alone win with the election with a two thirds majority!
masixole 1/12/2009 1:32:12 PM
ANC is counter-revolutionary
Sinudeity@Gmail.com 1/12/2009 1:35:23 PM
The black middle class, is now as big the as the ENTIRE white population. Thats excluding the black elite, and including the poor whites. in 6 years, 2 people, won 90% of ALL BEE tenders in South Africa, and you wonder why you are still poor, and uneducated. The ANC is looking out for its elite members only, everyone else, is voting fodder. Still prisoners to apartheid, supporting the ANC mindlessly.
Y 1/12/2009 1:37:03 PM
Link comment 1 and 2. Tshepo, the reason you vote ANC is clearly indicated here. Your spelling and grammar clearly shows a lack of education. Just pointing out the obvious.
South African 1/12/2009 1:38:05 PM
If as you say you are "educated and middle class" then surely you are a product of AA and BEE, as your writings are little more than mindless ramblings "The ANC will win the elctions are again and silence the liars" - educated but can't string 2 words together! Sounds like your idea of Democracy is to silence anyone who disagrees with your views!?
Joe 1/12/2009 1:38:28 PM
The African National Communist Party (ANC)ia a failure.Their failures include: water, electricity, education, health, service deliveries, corruption, bribes, potholes and tax money to Robber Mugabe. Only the uninformed masses can and will still vote for them. Viva Cope..!!!
Prophet of doom 1/12/2009 1:39:02 PM
If Cope, is the Answer for you Nomveliso then you should start there asking them what were they doing in goverment, in EC, ask Balindlela, and leave the ANC, alone. This manifesto is for the poor and for the first time in ages our focus is now on the poor. It cannot be broken promises as yet, not before the current leadership be given chance.
lm 1/12/2009 1:39:45 PM
Interesting how the ANC launched their manifesto in the one province that seems to have gone downhill since they took over governance!!
Truth 1/12/2009 1:43:47 PM
Socialism will be the death of this country! You cannot expect people to sit on the asses and get everything! This entitlement attitude will kill this country! You bash the economic elite, but they are the ones that are paying your grant! Paying for your services! The poor are a net drain on the system, like it or not. Socialism works well in theory, but what will the ANC do, when the overtaxed companies and individuals leave? Socialism will ensure that both rich and the poor will have nothing
gong 1/12/2009 1:44:04 PM
voters are like an abused woman!you keep getting abused from the same no good fool, cant leave him because he makes you believe he's your saviour, like you're nothing without him and keep promising you he will change.....tomorrow is the same smack and you keep making excuses for him!i say you deserve what you get, stop complaining and make your "x" in the opposite direction.
SIHLE-PY 1/12/2009 1:45:28 PM
the ruling party have made strides in emancipating the people of this country. nw the very same people who were in the anc the past 14 years serving in government talk about the anc falling, that simply means they are the ones who failed an are looking for people to point hands at. this is the truth of the matter anc nec have only been elected recenlty an now they are the reason for all the problems, well that is ridiculous. lekota an crew should except their failure in government an eastern cape
gong 1/12/2009 1:52:04 PM
COPE is the same ANC leaders in different colors, DA still a toothless hound and the ID just another noisemaker!I vote COPE because who is better positioned to take on the master than the student not because SHIKOTA is an overnight messiah
Sinudeity@Gmail.com 1/12/2009 2:03:51 PM
The amount of white judges in Zuma's legal team. Whats not funny, is how much they are costing tax payers.
gong 1/12/2009 2:13:18 PM
see i am not fooled by politicians, they are all a bunch of lying no good men & women(except for a few i am still to meet)they'll promise you the world and deliver badly, governments are the same all over & not even OBAMA is a saint! but atleast as a voter i have the task to make my gov. accountable to me and that can be done by the vote!put them in power &remove them as soon as they mess up...never give an outright majority as that is as good as wasting your vote
not yet uhuru 1/12/2009 2:13:25 PM
Clearly the opposition is in panick mode, and poor Nomveliso, is just but one, amongst many. I once read in the bible that, jealousy, is too much dangerous, and if cooked with a stone, the stone will be ready for dinner before it. It is interesting to see that after being bombarded with Cope attendances, people today find it difficult to accept that 80,000+ attended the ANC Manifesto. Only rich ignoprance fools, will believe half of the people were bussed from all provinces, that's a lie.
@MXO 1/12/2009 2:25:17 PM
Just to help you with that one. Cope do not want to do away with AA and BEE. They just want to refine it, so that SA does not loose all its skilled people. It will still be in place, just with skilled people training others to ensure better service. Lack of services in SA is due to lack of experienced skilled people. What is the crime in wanting to get skilled people to teach others and ensure they have the right skills to be competitive in the job market. Steph....

Lucky Ralawe 1/12/2009 2:34:09 PM
ZANU-PF's strong support base is now confined to the rural areas where most people suffered the worst during Ian Smith's Rhodesia. Likewise, those in the rural areas of SA were forgotten and left at the mercy of farmers. Theirs and ZANU's supporters affinity is based on their romantic idea that one day the ANC will attend to their plight. Those who can think and analyse things for themselves have "divorced" the ANC. BTW, why have Vavi & Blade lost their voices irt Zim since JZ took the reigns?
Not yet Uhuru 1/12/2009 2:44:58 PM
I though the majpority of you are educated, but your failure to read the manifesto and spot the difference, or focus change, prooves your political bankrupcy. You are all driven, be the evil of hate, of JZ, and nothing progressive to offer, except lies, it's a lie that the focus has not changed at all. It prooves once again why the poor have only one options, the ANC, the rest you don't give a fu**n damn about them. when did the ANC, intervene with industrial investment for the poor? Dreamers!!
Michelle 1/12/2009 3:01:57 PM
It's no wonder our Government is a big joke -ANC Manifesto Cost millions while millions are starving and houseless. What will the bloodriver solve.... just a bunch of the idiots leading the country with even less to eat and maybe a few caves to crawl in. For those who really believe in change and truly South African born and bred....YOU KNOW you can't vote Anc. We are truly South African if we are born & bred here no matter what our skin colour. Make the change, wake up South Africa.
100% Zuma 1/12/2009 3:06:29 PM
SCA today - "dismissed the application by NPA to have a "political meddling" finding scrapped. So that still stands.
MasterMind 1/12/2009 3:06:34 PM
such suggestions of "night of the long knives" should be banned from here - how can the editor allow such hate speech - let me tell you something - start uhuru with all yr dumb uneducated cromies from the ANC, I guarantee guns will talk and silence all your arrogant behaviour - LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY ALL YOU ANC WAR MONGERS & BOB LOVERS !!!!!
Gert 1/12/2009 3:11:53 PM
It is very easy to make promises to followers if you use monies paid (tax) by mostly the opposition members! How much in tax payments do you think the 80 000 party going visitors contributed the past financial year? Nothing, thats why they went there, to hear what they can get for free!
Peter Venter 1/12/2009 3:44:58 PM
Promises, promises, promises! The ANC Secretary General stated on SATV recently that the ANC does not make promises, but commitments. I don't recall hearing 'commitment' or 'committed' many times in Zuma's speech.
zolani sixolo 1/12/2009 3:51:52 PM
...You probably are the most PERFECT human being,Morally that is,to walk this Planet. You see, no one knows what YOU are up to in private! so get get of your high horse...Think about it... You might NOT be astouned by the result!!!
Pieter Joubert 1/12/2009 4:00:42 PM
..but I want to know from government what will be done differently this time. After 14 years of achieving nothing verifiable, except for a below average maintenance job and making lots of consultants rich and forcing as many friends as possible onto the public salary bill, how is the ANC going to achieve a better life for all? The only methods mentioned in the manifesto are ones already tried, eg. decrease corruption. Yes, but how?
Nomveliso kaMbanga 1/12/2009 4:06:54 PM
whats even more interesting is that there are rumours that other people were 'bused' into the eastern cape so its not entired eastern cape that were there. and the other irony is they go launch a manisfesto in the eastern cape and hype the people and when those people build aspiration to be in leadership then aboFikile Mbalula have the audacity to cry 'xhosanostra'.to fight some political games....plz man give our people a break and cater for them instead of using them for your personal means.
Neall 1/12/2009 4:50:07 PM
When did you last travel the length & breadth of the EC? If you haven't, then you have no idea what a mess they are in. I have. Those leaders should have been fired long ago for mismanagement & incompetance & not becasue they sided with Mbeki. Service delivery has gone backwards in the last 14 years. The streets are lined with garbage & sewage, the roads are derilect & so the list grows. Is that reason to trust the ANC to deliver?
@NOMVELISO 1/12/2009 5:06:08 PM
thats your problem you make decision based on rumours and not facts........ the ruling party stated clearly that they will bus people to the manifesto launch, remember its not a manifesto for the eastern cape only, please before you make unnecessary comments read and give us fact. dont let your hate overcloud you objective judgement
