All for Tokyo 05/06/2007 11:22
I am all for Tokyo Sexwale to become president of the ANC and this country of ours. I think he will bring a fresh new approach with him as he was not part of government and would focus more on SA . i think we would be in much beter hands with him thenwe are now with witm Mbeki. I think Mbeki is somewhat removed from the people and he looks to be seeking solutions fOR Africa while SA is crippled by problems of it's own. And please JZ must really not be on aption at all. - Frank |

Tokyo the boss? 05/06/2007 11:23
I just hope he doesn't have skeletons in the closet. Anyway; I think you can grab any guy off the street and he'll do a better job than the clown currently in position as ANC president. - Tuffy |

Anything else but JZ PLEEZ 05/06/2007 11:30
I think he's the most suitable candidate should he decide to run. Jay Z.JZ is a joke.. naaaah this country would go to its knees 6 times faster than Zim. Theres no way I'd vouch for a President who believes taking a shower after sleeping with an HIV + person would redeem him from the virus!! - Mjavas |

yes or no tokyo? 05/06/2007 11:30
To me it does not matter who within the ANC runs for president because it will not change the the fact that i will never ever vote ANC again.Their leadership has drowned what little faith i had in man`s integrity. The very ANC that laid down their lives for the sake of freedom and equality undermines that same freedom and equality we`ve achieved before law. They`ve stripped a large part of our nation of their dignity and expects in return nothing but tolerance.Self enrichment-order of the day. - john |

Tokyo 05/06/2007 11:35
What Tokyo is leaving for at this stage (dreams)? I can?t tell, so for him to run for the president election will be a walk in the park as he did mentioned before hi is not desperate for the money or benefits, I think the only dream for him is only have the title Mr. President next to his name. I don?t think hi will be able to deliver the services that South Afrikaans need in this country. - Xolani Tsholoba |

Tokyo Stands No Chance 05/06/2007 11:35
Tokyo is out of touch with ANC constituencies and will not meet the threshold for nomination. He has been out of ANC politics for a long time and therefore has no constituency. No ANC leader has been elected President without ANCYL support since the ANC came to power. Jacob Zuma is a runaway winner regardless of whether he faces criminal charges or not. - Modisenyane |

Tokyo might just be a sound alternative, but he somewhat reminds me of Obama in many ways! I wonder if masses of poor voters will be willing to vote for him - but at this moment I'd even vote for Ngconde 'cheerleader' Balfour for president than have JZ-can you imagine how many 1st ladies would SA have? - Luther |

Tokyo for president 05/06/2007 11:37
He seems to be a fair person but I have my doubts. If there are no skeletons in his closet then I would not mind having him as president. somehow positions make people greedy and I hope that he will not change. the dilemma for presidency would be put to rest if he comes into the picture 'cause I had hoped that if not him then Cyril Ramaphosa. but politics will remain politics and time will tell!! - obey |

Questions 05/06/2007 11:38
If you know someone personally, then surely you'll be able to make a better judgment on whether she/he is fit to be a leader, especially when it comes to running a country. Is it good enough to boost someone for president, even though all you know about him/her, is what you saw on TV, newspapers...? How much do we know about our possible leaders? Is any leader in a position purely because he/she showed outstanding leadership skills? - ElectroMan |

Oh Yes 05/06/2007 11:39

Tokyo gets my vote 05/06/2007 11:41
Tokyo vs Zuma is a no brainer. Tokyo has struggle credentials, african roots, global business savvy, a white wife, coloured kids. I just hope that he will take a hard line on Mugabe and CRIME and be an SA leader that the whole world and all races in SA will look up to!
he would definately get my vote.
We just need strong visible leadership in SA!!!! - Ian |

Tokyo for President of SA 05/06/2007 11:46
I think that he has the business brain and clout to move SA in the direction it needs to be. He will use goverment money to reduce crime, improve health care, and over well-being of SA (rooting out corruption in the government). He is the ideal candidate. If he heads up the ANC, and runs for president, then I will most definitely be voting for him. PS - just expose his skeletons (if any) now rather than later. Highly unlikely he has any though, cos he comes across as being very solid - Anonymous |

another president? 05/06/2007 11:49
Tokyo could be president of the ANC. With his other leg in buisness, he could well activate the logical split in the (struggle based) alliance, creating a real labour movement in a parliamentary opposition. This would bring the internal ANC debates in the open where they belong. Tokyo could then be president of SA OR NOT, depending on the size of the opposition. That would be democracy at work and reduce the "jobs for incompetent pals" culture. He might also throw some new light on BEE. - benzo70 |

Tokyo for ANC President 05/06/2007 11:52
Why a normal person can support a corrupt person, JZ, he raped, he stole money, etc, etc, what kind of leadership can he bring?..thanks for Tokyo if he is available, this will encourage the majority of people to rejoin the ANC, after they withdrew membership because of the support JZ is getting ignoring his corruption!! Forward with Tokyo to be an ANC and SA President. Johny, Mukula - Johny |

Suitable but not the only one 05/06/2007 11:59
If he carries no baggage I think he'd be the best choice. There's no rule that ANCYL should endorse him. As long as it's someone of high moral standards and credence, a leader who can unite the organisation and the people of this country. If it's Mbeki we'll have to endure another power jostling movie for the man to lead the country, ultimately. We need a combination of a manager and a leader. - Kaya |

But of Course Yes 05/06/2007 12:04
His Business Acumen will no doubt carry through to his "management" of the country. No 1 priority would be to attract foreign investment. Foreign investment will generate wealth and jobs and is SA's only chance of a peaceful future. To attract foreign investment, he will make his first contribution in eraddicating inefficiency, corruption and crime. It's a knock on effect, and no-one knows that more than a champion of business. - Andre |

Tokyo?? 05/06/2007 12:23
By all means president of the ANC! His business background might help him breaking up the -unhealthy- alliance which could bring social issues -capitalist vs socialist- in parliamentary debates where they belong. If the ANC then still have enough majority left to supply the president of SA, so be it. I would not mind Zille in that position either. - Benzo |

NPA cleaning services required for Tokyo 05/06/2007 12:42
I think we as south african we should now adopt NPA clean up services for any person who desires to occupy the high office. Since mr JZ is in the process, Tokyo should as well get into the process so that we can sure of the quality of the material we are putting into our high office. - Malenga |

Zuma for President and a Big No -Tokyo 05/06/2007 12:55
How can someone who spent millions in Formula 1 sports and give millions worth of shares to a few friends lead a country with such alarming poverty rates. He is just in it for status and boredom but lacks passion and commitment. Can u imagine him working those long hours and do you think the first lady instead of blowing billions amassed will perform those state duties. How about governance issues when they spend they wealth (private jets)and versus using state benefits. Big problems coming... - Mthiyane |

ANCYL, please grow up! 05/06/2007 13:00
I find it amazing how members of the ANCYL are ranting here. You act as though you suffered so much, yet you weren't even around during the worst suffering.Yes,maybe Tokyo Sexwale isn't one of the biggest ANC members, but he is definitely a true South African, and that is what I want in a leader. Oh, and for all you ANCYL critics, yes i'm white, but I'm a south african, and that's what counts. - FedUp |

Tokyo's the Man! 05/06/2007 13:00
We are basically faced with 2 options for president - on one hand we have a successful corporate leader with a strong business brain & (seemingly) upstanding, family-oriented morals.
On the other we have a man with popular support, but no real understanding of the economic & management issues required to run the nation - a man accused of blowing billions of taxpayers rands to secure a bribe & who sleeps with HIV+ women half his age who refer to him as 'uncle' - it's really a no brainer!! - Rodders |

I have, for many years, hoped and prayed that Tokyo would one day become our President. He has a flawless reputation, which can unfortunately not be said of most of the present government members. Most importantly he is an honorouble man, like Nelson Mandela.
I just pray that the underlying, secretive, dishonest powers that rule our country do not try, and succeed to intervene.
I would certainly sleep better each night.

Tokyo a Force to be Reckonned 05/06/2007 13:38
Tokyo would make a good president for Mzansi. The problem is that people close to Zuma have already allocated themselves positions in the event of his presidency. That is why they are fiercely objecting to Tokyo's availability. Its all about stomach politics as opposed to struggle to better the people's lives.Nevertheless, Tokyo remains the most qualified and appropriate person to lead the ANC and the country come 2009. - Mokone |

Someone that will put the needs of the people first. 05/06/2007 13:40
We would like to have someone that will listen to the people that will really do something about the squatter camps especially KTC and Cross Roads. A person that will be able to discipline his or her employees when they are corrupt, a person that will put his people first, a person that will know that we put him/her there. A person that will not build match boxes houses. A person that will start at home first before going outside. Tokyo i will say No. he must be the president of his own company. - zukiswa |

Tokyo for President 05/06/2007 14:00
I support Tokyo 100% for Presidency. But I disagree with the notion that him being from business will bring changes in SA economy. The fact is our economy is growing as we speak right now, but the poor don't reap the benefits. The food price is forever shooting up while unemployment rate is spiraling. Those are some of the challenges that Tokyo must face as a leader. However, I consider him the best candidate because of the person he is. He is surely not someone's glove-puppet. - Tshediso |

IF I supported the ANC, Tokyo would be my man, but I don't. The ANC have not shown us in all these years that they can make a difference to this country, in fact, things have got worse. The time has come to give another political party, preferably the DP, a chance to prove they can do a better job.
