YOUR STORY
Who is 'MP3'?
13/07/2007 11:56 - (SA)
As one of News24's most prolific comment writers, the anonymous "MP3" has spawned a bit of a following from fans and detractors alike.
We caught up with "MP3" to find out what makes him comment as much as he does - and what he really thinks about all the things he comments on!
1) Age, sex, location?
24, male, Johannesburg
2) You comment so much on News24. Don't you have a dayjob? What do you do all day?
Yeah, I have a day job. I'm a C# developer (programmer).
3) So what's with all the commenting on News24?
Helps to pass the time, and sometimes I believe that common sense is left out of some stories.
4) Someone has suggested to us you could be Neil Wilson, of the crime expo website, because you comment so much and hide your identity? Is this true?
Have no clue who Mr Neil Wilson is. Is he the guy from Dennis the Menace?
5) What subjects on News24 really get you worked up?
Issues like "crime isn't that bad" and people who moan about insignificant/silly/non-sensical/autocratic/feminists things.
Articles like:
Grand spanking failure
Fire Fraser-Moleketi!
I'm a victim, says Cliff
The science of religion?
Concert schmoncert!
Circumcision not a cure
Some of the above articles I've commented on, but the comments weren't published. That's okay though. they were "in your face" anyway.
6) Do you have a blog? Have you ever written for my.news24.com?
Not too sure if you can classify facebook as a blog. Blogs feel like too much effort... I don't believe I've ever written for my.news24.com.
7) You come across as pretty pessimistic about the future of SA.
Tell us once and for all, what's your opinion on this country of ours?
Haha, I do, don't I? But quite on the contrary I assure you. I absolutely love this country. Will probably die here in SA (old age or being shot for a cellphone, which ever comes first).
It's home for me, I've never been outside SA so this is a pretty biased viewpoint - some would say I do not know any better. But I believe I have a well rounded point of view.
I think though balance is needed. The government is set on "equality"
but I feel there opinion of equal is different to mine. Corruption and crime makes this country look bleak. But it's first class in terms of diversity and nature wise and stuff. Beautiful country.
8) Who do you want to be the next president of SA?
Tricky, as I see it, no one fits this task.
From the ANC? Mr Sexwale has a warm fuzzy feeling to him, although President Sexwale seems a bit unrealistic at this point in time.
Thabo's unconstitutional third term is scary and Zuma is not a very good role model based on his shenanigans covered by the media of late.
As for a DA president? The country is simply not ready for this politically however I believe a stronger political opposition is needed for stability in SA so national leaders are made to answer for questionable policies.
9) If you could change one thing about News24, what would it be?
I think a nice section of older articles in chronological layout, instead of linking related articles as a back-tracking facility to past stories.
10) We think you enjoy the anonymity. Would you still say what you say
if you had to use your real name?
I do enjoy the anonymity. But truth be told I'd still say what I wanted to. But my online nickname has been with me since 2000 and it's grown on me!
Thanks MP3. Keep 'em coming!
