The hearts of millions of South Africans are filled with pain, anger and sadness today. Lucky Dube was shot and killed in an attempted hijacking on Thursday night.

Lucky was a true legend of South African music. His dedication to peace, love and freedom rang true in the lyrics that magically resonated to millions across the world. If you have had the privilege of listening to his harmony, you would have been open to the elements to an eclectic sound, exposing you to political, deeply personal and social issues.

Lucky saw through the discrimination and problems we have in this country. He had the ability to take these issues and turn them into hypnotic beats that reverberated magnificence through the sounds of reggae.

Lucky is a brother of the same musical genius as Bob Marley and Peter Tosh and his excellent spirit will be remembered in my heart for many years to come. Songs like Prisoner, Trinity and The Way It Is, shaped reggae music globally. His music rang through the townships and homes in South Africa bringing with it emotions of freedom, peace and love.

His passion was set free on the wings of angels and his voice was crafted by the hand of God.
His beats and rhythm are created from the feet that walk the streets of Zion.
His love and passion is shaped by the blood of the people in South Africa.
He was rhythm, he was peace, he was Africa.
A gift to his mother
A gift to his blood
A gift to Africa
A gift to the World

Lucky's movement and rhythm is beating in my heart as I write this and the record that will hammer in my heart today is Think About The Children. This is relevant today as we need to remember the family of this legend.

Peace, love and freedom to Lucky Dube and his blood on this sad day. Your music has taken me to new highs and your passion has been planted in the hearts of many. Your family will be mourning your loss and that will be shared by the masses.

Thank you for your music, thank you for your peace, thank you for you Rastafarian movement that liberated and motivated the young blood in this land. Your blood has been spilled by the people you freed with your brilliance.

We have failed you brother, we have lost the fight. The war will continue, peacefully, lovingly and willingly.

such a sad day in the history of South Africa and for the music world globally. Lucky Dude was one of those artists to bridge the silliness in our society. A true legend and he will be deeply missed. I hope they catch those greed-ridden criminals and make an example out of them. Too many of our entertainers are being killed off. From Gito Baloyi to Brett Goldin... its a crying shame. This is another example of why government and society needs to work together, to make South Africa better.
Lesetja 10/19/2007 11:31:48 AM
Criminals are now "controlling" our lives. We are living in fear. What happened to ubuntu? The biggest problem that contributes to this decay is broken family values. Our parents protects us, even if we have done wrong. A person will kill and the next their parents will pay the bail money. The solution to most of these problems can be resolved with the help of parents and the society at large. Don't buy stolen goods etc.Police and the courts please do you part. Let's all stop this madness.
kitchenboy 10/19/2007 11:35:17 AM
my heart goes out to lucky's family and friends on this sad day. in yet another senseless killing we loose one of SA's great talents. allready i have heard for calls to have the death penalty brought back as if that is the solution to all our problems, only it is not. it will not stop anyone from commiting crime or murder because criminals dont expect to get caught, certainly not by our below par policeforce.
Seja 10/19/2007 11:35:18 AM
all i can is condolences to Lucky's family .. for a polo ...? cant beleave it ..!!
Juan 10/19/2007 11:36:16 AM
What angers me more is that our so-called president offered his 'condolences' to Lucky's family! This is the president of the anc, the same party thet took away the death penalty, the same party that caused our justice system to collapse, the same party that lets out murderers out on bail. Mbeki is SUCH a hippocrit! We truely live in a sick sick country!
Very Angry 10/19/2007 11:37:59 AM
I'd like to say R.I.P to the legend and may his family be strong during this difficult time. The criminals that are running the streets terrorising people must know that their days are numbered. We are tired of being prisoners in our own homes. People can't buy cars they love because skelms are gonna take them and their lives at once. Government, anyone please help.
j 10/19/2007 11:39:04 AM
Bring back the death penalty!!!!! Maybe then will crime and acts like these not happen so often.
Piet du Toit 10/19/2007 11:39:59 AM
What a tragedy.....like Diana, like Elvis, like Lebo Mathosa, so loved and who would want to kill him. Terribly sad day.
Claire 10/19/2007 11:40:22 AM
It is a sad day indeed that we have lost one of our most talented musicians to the disease called crime. How is it that we unite for the Bokke but for crime we do nothing but complain? This is the time to stop blaming each other and stand together to fight crime but we need government to help too.
kitchenboy 10/19/2007 11:41:25 AM
as long as government protects and shields suspect police commisioners and judges there will be little hope for improving the crime rate in this country, but then we can always leave if we dont like it, so, please will the last person to do so turn off the lights!!
Angela 10/19/2007 11:42:27 AM
My condolences to Lucky's family. I am so very very sorry for you, especially to his children who had to witness this. Another sad sad day in South Africa where these greedy, sick bastards are ruining lives across the country on a daily basis. Let us all stand together, black, white, indian, coloured, chinese......... It is time we ALL stood up and said enough is enough!! Time for this sickness that is killing this country to stop.
A DJ 10/19/2007 11:42:28 AM
I am deeply shattered by this news. I grew up listening to Lucky Dube. I preach this all the time and one day hopefully someone will hear me.... we need to stop all our kak and come together and build this country. Enough of all this black-white-you did this - you did that... PLEASE!!! Work with the police, bring these criminals to justice, put them away so we can get about our business - Let's just please live.
Nicky 10/19/2007 11:42:55 AM
My deepest respect and condolences go out to the Dube family at this very sad time. I am so so so sad and angry that a man of this stature had to die in this manner. At a time when we should be rejoicing and looking forward to a RWC victory we have to be tainted by this senseless act. May God have mercy on South Africa and it's people.
Alicia 10/19/2007 11:44:21 AM
I loved the brother. I am 60 and have all his CD"s. What an outporing of brotherlove, happiness, harmony and joy he gave us. I have been crying all morning. THIS IS JUST TO MUCH TO COMPREHEND. I travel all over the world and returned on Tuesday morning again, just to go in my jeans and T-Shirt to a funeral. Yesterday I was told of a friend who was murdered. We are being slaughtered like animals by animals. Lets all toot our carhooters for one minute every day at 1800h. SHOUT NO MORE!
RS4FAN 10/19/2007 11:46:38 AM
R.I.P Lucky Lucky Dube... A true son of the soil. Now is time for SA to rise up and face this madness.
nzs 10/19/2007 11:47:09 AM
If we dedicate this column to expressing condolences to the Dube family, then all's good. But if we deflect attention like the loony Juan is beckoning us to do with his poor English usage and spell-check-challenge diatribe, then so be it. Did the crazed Juan expect Mbeki not to offer condolences? And is the unconstitutionality of death penalty an endorsement of crime (esp. murder)? Goes to show what goes on in the minds of some mentally unbalanced of our compatriots, like loony Juan has proved.
Sheldon Vorster 10/19/2007 11:48:04 AM
Sad news indeed, I & I friends will always remember your contribution to our great country. May Jah give you peace & a wonderful rest - My Sincerest condolences to the Dube Family. Respect!!!!!
Sean 10/19/2007 11:48:13 AM
A legend,an icon,a matchless talent stilled for eternity.Come on all you bastard fat-cat arsehole politicians!!!Stop the murder of OUR leaders.OUR role models!Charles Ngaqula you are a useless waste of breath - do your bloody job you pansy. The struggle is over now YOU get over it.How many more Lucky Dube's will it take before you act?
Black 10/19/2007 11:50:21 AM
Day in and day out our fellow citizens are killed (black, white, indian, coloured) yet esteemed Mr NkQula says we must whine blah blah blah till we blue in the face or else leave... He should have been fired for making such a comment - this shows a total lack of concern for his fellow citizens. What kind of a leader is he??? What is being done to protect and curb this waive of crime???? Fire the SWINE!!!
Lynn 10/19/2007 11:50:32 AM
It is unfortunate to read about the violent death of such a talented South African. One just wishes though that the same level of public and media sentiment could be expressed whenever farmers, many of them aged and defenceless, are attacked and butchered in the most savage and repulsive way on a regular basis.
Godfrey 10/19/2007 11:50:45 AM
A touching tribute Aiden, he was one of very few musicians with no scandals,a quite, respectful man.I rate his album 'The Way It Is'as the best, that touches one's soul. For the rest of us what is going to happen to us? GOD help us all.
young black 10/19/2007 11:50:55 AM
I donot even feel any emotions because of how low our standards have gotten as a country. In one week, would have been Ryk neethling, would have been Lee-ann Manas but unfortunately was also an Actor on Soul City. I am only 23 and the only thing on my mind is TO GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS PLACE. With the loss of Lucky Dube, I have lost all love for south africa.
Juan 10/19/2007 11:51:34 AM
People! The only thing we can do is NOT to vote for the scum running the country again! I blame theire inaction on crime for this 100%.
Rams 10/19/2007 11:55:27 AM
It is not only today that millions of South Africans are filled with pain, anger and sadness. The pain and anger has always been there "no urgument about it", when it will stop, only the devil knows. Some people enjoy the luxury of bodyguards. Who ever said death penalty must be done away with must think again. Condolences to the Dube family and to all those South Africans who find themselves in the same situations.
Helena 10/19/2007 11:56:56 AM
I am devastated. It was through him I discovered the joy of reggae music. He was an icon of peace and justice. These terrible killers probably only found out later who they had shot. And all this for a car. It's horrifying.
Guy 10/19/2007 11:57:13 AM
The ship of fools that governs this abberation is to blame. Led from the front by a spineless incompetent bigot, the circus that is parliament has brought us here. They live 5 star lives at our expense, while the people who pay for the ivory towers are butchered. BRING THE DEATH PENALTY BACK NOW!!!!!!
Doorboot 10/19/2007 11:57:38 AM
I loved his music and his sentiments (especialy about the taxman). He was a true icon of our times and will be missed. The hijacker tried to rob from him, but ended up robing the country of one of its most talented sons.
britico 10/19/2007 11:57:39 AM
too bad the man that his music bring joy and happiness to me has gone too painfull. My condolences to Lucky's family. I am so very very sorry for you, especially to his children .
South African 10/19/2007 11:58:56 AM
My heart bleeds for his family as it does for the hundreds of others he was not the first and will definately not be the last, ANC government it is time to sit up and take notice, get off your fat backsides and do something.
Steve 10/19/2007 11:59:52 AM
So once again the President makes as if he cares by giving his condolensces. Well he is off on another joyful overseas trip, together with lots of other government officials, while a Nation mourns. Our government have turned our backs on us and will continue to do nothing about crime, of that you can be guarenteed.
Jenny 10/19/2007 12:00:09 PM
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH THIS CRIME! TIME FOR EVERY SOUTH AFRICAN TO STRIKE UNTIL THE GOVERNMENT DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THE BORDERS, THE CRIME, THE CORRUPT COPS. WHY CAN'T WE GALVANISE AGAINST CRIME THE WAY WE DO FOR SPORT!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!
Dee 10/19/2007 12:00:21 PM
I think enough is enough. His family has been robbed of a loved one; we have been robbed of a great entertainer. Bring back the death penalty, so that the punishment can fit the crime! ENOUGH!
Thomas Dube 10/19/2007 12:00:24 PM
Rest in peace Lucky Dube, yes we will miss you, our deepest respect and condolences to the entire family, Lala ngoxolo Dube elimthende, Mtima, Nyamatane'
Very very ANGRY 10/19/2007 12:00:52 PM
Should we all buy guns and declare war on these criminals? It does not matter where you are coming from (ask Bheki Cele the minister of safety and security in KZN), these criminals are hitting very hard. I am sick and tired of these bunch of people who are terrosing us.Maybe its time we join forces black or white, poor or rich and march each an every corner our streets declaring war on these criminals.
Charles 10/19/2007 12:01:02 PM
I am incredibly saddened to hear of the senseless and untimely death of oneof SA's greatest artists. All my condolences to his family and friends. Farewell Lucky! Today I am ashamed of my country, the government is failing us, we are not truly free. We are asked to help government but our hands are tied. Criminals have more rights than we do. Too many of us are being killed - white, black, coloured. I fear for the future of our children!
phalo 10/19/2007 12:02:11 PM
All of us are saddened by this loss. It goes to show that contrary to popular belief, criminals do not target white people or whites are not the only one feeling the pinch of crime in this country. We all suffer people. Rather than blaming the government and poor Mbeki for every mishap, let us learn to share our sadness and work together to find a way out. Let this not be another opportunity to take a swipe at the government and Mbeki. They are affected by the crime too.
Martin 10/19/2007 12:02:12 PM
What a lost. Why care for criminals that don't value life. I say hang them! Any party out there who will bring back the death penalty are going to win with a landslide victory.
Carol 10/19/2007 12:02:21 PM
What a sad sad loss. I am not really a reggae fan I must confess, but I admired Lucky for his strife for peace in this country. May you rest in peace you will be sorely missed. Condolences to his family. To quote *we have failed you brother, we have lost the fight*
Sam 10/19/2007 12:02:29 PM
It is a very sad day for South Africans all over the world. Condolences to the Dube family and all those who have lost loved ones due to crime. WE SHALL OVERCOME .... Sam, London
KIRSTY 10/19/2007 12:02:38 PM
The deaths of great and innocent people, such as Lucky, are just eye-openers to which way our beautiful country is going. Our government & police system are useless at protecting South Africans, they stand in the same courtyard as the criminals of this country. My deespest sympathy goes to Lucky's family and to all those that have lost a loved due to crime.May God be with you. Let us as South African people, stand together and fight these disgusting specimans of humans.Bring back the death penalty!!!!
Marcelo chihale 10/19/2007 12:05:22 PM
Any more reason to bring back the death sentece???My condolences to the family of late Dube.
Graham 10/19/2007 12:05:22 PM
Has anyone any positive suggestions on how we can stop this crime?
Mamela Lucky 10/19/2007 12:05:36 PM
The time has come to say good bye to a warrior of African Music. The man that made it happen The African Brother with the heart of a Lion! Sleep in peace and keep the rythm alive through your name Salute and be known ! That is the reason I left Arica nothing is worth anything and Tabo sleeps on Wake up Mbeki at this rate you might be alone so very soon , you might not even see the end!! I vote foe Lucky Day
Juan 10/19/2007 12:05:59 PM
Yes I do find it sick that mbeki offered his condolences, when he himself is in a position to REALLY fight crime in this country, but he does absolutely nothing! Mbeki himself is to blame, but he has the cheek to offer condolences. I bet you he will sing a different tune about the death penalty when his wife is murdered! He is truely a sick man!
RIP Lucky 10/19/2007 12:06:35 PM
Where everybody's free, even criminals.
Pule 10/19/2007 12:07:07 PM
If the justice system in this coutry was up to scratch, we would not have such senseless killings, life would be wonderful. Now we live in fear, because some barbaric, stupid thugs think this world belongs to them. Bring back the death penalty and make SA a better place!! Sick and tired of living in fear. RIP Lucky.
Gatvol 10/19/2007 12:07:14 PM
If it didn't happen to him, it would have happened to one of us lesser knowns
Jeremy 10/19/2007 12:07:55 PM
Sincerest condolenses to the Dube family and friends. Young Dube, Be strong!! I challenge Mr Mbeki and the rest of the government to live without their armies of guards and live like the rest of us in fear. If any of them get harmed in any way by these senseless crimes, then maybe something will be done about the attrocious crime rate in this lovely country of ours!!!!
CJD 10/19/2007 12:07:57 PM
Lucky, I salute you! May you rest in peace. I can only hope that our so-called President and his merry group of suckers-up wake up to the reality of South Africa. How many more must die, how many more children must suffer before they wake up? We lost another legend to the growing list of those killed in the prime of their lives. To visit the family should not be necessary, be pro-active. My condolences to his family!
Mpumi 10/19/2007 12:07:58 PM
I'm angered by the senseless killings that plague our country taking away the nation pride. Its a pity that for us citizens it takes a neighbours child being mutilated for 'muti' or a friend killed for a car or a loved one being infected with HIV to notice the real extent of the social ills we're faced with. Lucky's death should be an indictment on us citizens as to the active roles we should play in fighting crime but above all a vote of no confidence on our safety ministry...
Antelope 10/19/2007 12:10:28 PM
My heart goes out to the Dube family. The first time I saw Lucky play was at the Rainbow concert when Mandela was released. Ironic, all the years of aprtheid rule did not kill him! Get rid of the useless bosses in charge of the police now. It is time for Selebi and a whole bunch of other idiots to be replaced by respectable and proffesional citizens of this country who will make it their duty to fight crime.
fatman 10/19/2007 12:11:41 PM
What`s also sad is now all of a sudden Pres Mbeki wants the nation to stand together against crime, the very man that said crime in this country is a perception. Why the sudden change of attitude?
Joan 10/19/2007 12:12:00 PM
Words alone fail me. Lucky, l will miss your live shows in Zimbabwe. My to smpathy to your "family"
Rita 10/19/2007 12:13:32 PM
I dissagree with you.. The New SA where only the criminals are free. We lock ourselves in our houses afraid to go out at night because of these criminals..That is not freedom to me..Can't we take the goverment to court for not protecting us, as it is their job...Our taxes pay for it!!!!!!!! My condolences to Lucky's family...
Papi 10/19/2007 12:14:44 PM
As long as criminals are running the country, criminals on the streets will also rule us. Take the car and leave me alone. This is one stupid criminal. Criminals your days are coming
Eugene 10/19/2007 12:16:07 PM
A sad, sad day for us all indeed. My sincere condolences to the family. A while ago our President, Thabo Mbeki, was commenting on what he called 'a perception of crime in the minds of a certain group'. Our Minister of Police were ranting about people 'who can whinge until they are blue in the face' and urged them to leave the country if the are unhappy about the crime levels. Our Chief of Police, Selebi, has a cloud of suspicion over him. On which planet are these guys living?
DG 10/19/2007 12:16:15 PM
Our government has through incompetance, ignorence and arrogance failed us all. Crime is out of control.
Bulelani 10/19/2007 12:17:28 PM
I was deeply saddened to hear of the gunning down of SA reggae icon Lucky Dube. It is a fact that crime is out of control but people should get it into their brains that there is NO WAY the death penalty will return. This is simply because it is outlawed by our Constitution. To bring it back, we would need to amend the Constitution, which is not an easy thing to do. We need other ways of tackling crime.
Garth 10/19/2007 12:17:40 PM
I feel that it is a very sad day when we loose a legend like Lucky, especially to crime. Lets pray Lucky's legacy lives on and that the events of his death wake some leaders up in this country to the serious problem of violent crimes. Lucky Dube, we will miss you.
Stats 10/19/2007 12:18:45 PM
We will miss you. He was one of the 50 people that was killed yesterday. Think of all the other families as well. Today there will be another 50. And tomorrow and so on. An average of one every 30 minutes. As you are reading this somebody in SA is being killed or/and raped.
K Mosobe 10/19/2007 12:20:03 PM
Goodbye, the son of the soil. We have been robbed by crime once more in thjis country, what a tragedy. May the Lord be with Lucky's family, friends and all South Africans. Let's unite against crime. I am definitely sure that in one way or another those who commit crime are known to us. Please take action and report these social misfits. My heart is bleeding with anger and Sadness. Rest in Peace Lucky, You shall be remembered Always.
WE FAILED YOU LUCKY!!!! 10/19/2007 12:20:07 PM
Dear South Africans!!! you can't let this happen in your country, you fought for freedom once and now YOU CAN DO IT AGAIN. Fight for your right to be free and we will be there for you always. It is time for fighters to step down and for LEADERS to rule your country. They let you get killed whatever color you are. DO SOMETHING!!
boyzie 10/19/2007 12:20:29 PM
Resources and manpower is being wasted by persuing a journalist...while criminals roam freely and kill with impuinity...it sickens me!!!
Sick of it 10/19/2007 12:21:55 PM
The game should not be called Russian roulette but rather SOUTH AFRICAN ROULETTE. It is a matter of time before you number comes up.
Win 10/19/2007 12:22:14 PM
I was never one to be a fan of Reggae but Lucky was the best. SA have now lost an icon of such influencial importance to our people. His music was everywhere and for everyone. Hope those bastards in parliament and the presidency are now happy!! Mbeki can take his condolences and shove it!! To the Dube family: may you be proud, he will be remembered! My condolences.
warren 10/19/2007 12:22:23 PM
What a Tragedy, if this does not hit home to our pathetic government I am afraid nothing will. In fact this is an ugly thing to say but until something like this happens to some high level government officials I can?t see them standing up and taking responsibility! Forget about the Rugby Thabo Mbeki ? in the time you are gone 150 more incident people would have been murdered ? say and fix the mess your government is making in this country. Sad
Thabs 10/19/2007 12:22:26 PM
People fought and died for freedom. Now we are fighting for security. How can we be a nation with peace when criminals seem to be the ones ruling our lives.Thabo Mbeki is a hypocrite,He fired Jacob Zuma under suspicion of corruption but he cannot fire Selebi who is a friend with a mafia. This picture is wrong.I blame Mbeki,Nqakula and selebi for not protecting south africans. We are losing friends and families through crime.Lucky Dube died because crime is not taken seriously.RIP Lucky
Peter Ferreira 10/19/2007 12:24:32 PM
I have listened to and loved your music. You are child of God, and I know you are at HIS right hand. They have slaughtered your body, but your Soul, Music and Memories, they could not take. JAH BLESS YOU LUCKY DUBE. YOU WERE A MAN AMONGST MEN. WE WILL MISS YOU MY BROTHER. PHUMULE KAHLE BHUTI WAMI
pissed off 10/19/2007 12:25:17 PM
The death penalty would be the punishment for the crime, and although I am in favour of it, our problems do not simply revolve around HOW we punish these monsters. It has to do with the fact that between our police and legal system, most of these criminals are never even caught, and if they are they escape! This government's ignorance will destroy SA. Maybe the only wake-up will be when this kind of thing happens to the family of Thabo!
Hennie Thompson 10/19/2007 12:27:04 PM
Lucky Dube became an icon in South Africa, as an Idol and fighter for the rights of all South Africans in his unique way, that touched all of us, with his humor, music and open personality, will be missed, his absence will leave a huge emptyness in our country. Even Thabo Mbeki passed his condolensess, we must fight crime together, Thank you Mr. Mbeki for this positive remark, I hope that this insedent has opened more eyes, so that crime can be controled, but from the top. Condolenses.
Antianc 10/19/2007 12:27:27 PM
As a Whitey I am not paricularly fond of "black" music but Lucky Dubes music I liked and enjoyed whenever I listened to him. Now many people are shocked about this absolutely senceless killing. The killer will never be found due to our totally useless Police Services Department. It is just a pity that the majority of those who are shocked by this brutality will still vote ANC next time around!
me 10/19/2007 12:27:30 PM
Juan please go push your politics somewhere else. A great man has died for no reason but a bloody polo and it is time for a United front. The Springboks must wear reggae bands tomorrow for Lucky and we must stop the fighting in order to start the fight.
bafana 10/19/2007 12:28:26 PM
Our heartfelt condolences, and may his soul continue living in us and guide us through the darkness of crime to our true light of liberation and freedom. We realy owe our being to you as the youth of the country you've forth tooth and nail to liberatate.your soul had defeted the ends of apartheid, but surrendered to the mistakes of the democratic society. WE SOLUTE YOU
nick 10/19/2007 12:29:13 PM
What a great artist we have lost - South Africa is a poorer place because of this? I Sincerely hope Thabo Mbeki, Jackie Selebi, Robert McBride and the rest enjoy there overseas jaunts, while the country burns. I keep hearing from this lot "If you dont like it leave", but where are they all the time?
Nomsa 10/19/2007 12:30:30 PM
I wonderhow the person who killed him is feeling right now? For a Polo indeed?? What did he do wrong to you? You have spoiled all our day inthe whole universe. We will catch you. Please bring back death penalty. Family = we are with you in prayers. Only God knows how to comfort you. We love you so much
Nick 10/19/2007 12:31:00 PM
Someone pleasse send these posts to the President. His quote in the paper after the headlines "Mbeki gets tough on crime" all he says is "the public must tackle the scourge of crime" !!!!!! WTF? Pathetic. The Public??? We do face it. Every day. The governement must do their bit. Bring back the death penaly. Allow citizens to protect their families. Give the power back to the law abiding citizen and take it from the scum that prey on South Africas soul. RIP Lucky Dube. God Help Africa.
VLS 10/19/2007 12:31:07 PM
I remember as a child going to watch a soccer match (was a cup final if 'm not mistaken) and Lucky Dube performed live just before the game. He was simply incredible on the day and had the entire stadium in raptures. I always remember that day as one of those special memories I still hold from childhood. Rest in peace Mr Dube.

VIVA THE DEATH PENALTY, VIVA
Alan 10/19/2007 12:31:35 PM
What is the good of positive suggestions? Look at Parliament. Every time the DA makes positive, constructive sugegstions (usually against the tyrannical, abusive and corrupt ANC majority) they are called backward racists. Nothing will help until the current crop of ANC leaders (mainly racist and elitist returned exiles) becomes too old to rule. But by then it will be too late and we will all be either dead at the hands of criminal violence or be starving like those still left in in Zimbabwe.
KingKong 10/19/2007 12:32:38 PM
"How long shall they kill our prophets, While we stand aside and look? " Rest in peace, brother.
Wernardt 10/19/2007 12:32:57 PM
Yes, everyone of you. WE are the guilty people because we allow this type of thing. The only time we act is when somebody special (like lucky) gets killed. Then we all write tributes and we cry and say "oh that's so sad". Bullshit. What about the wives, husbands and children who lose loved ones every single day due to the scourge of crime, yet we say "the ANC is working to make it better", "the police are doing their best". All talk and no action. Cry me a !@#*!ing river.
James 10/19/2007 12:34:51 PM
Mbeki SHOVE your condolences and DO something!!!!!!!! - There's NO WAY I'm voting anc again! I am sick of crime! Sick of it!! NO MORE!
Linda Ngcaba 10/19/2007 12:35:13 PM
I remember when I was a kid he used to sing I am a prisoners and did not actually know why he was singing about being a prisoner. In retrospect prior to 94 and post I knew what he was talking about in his music, I have to say you do not find any other musician in South Africa who captures people's minds and hearts like he did. During the days of white rule he brought out the frustration of black into song and people gave him that respect because he internationalized the SA struggle.
Fed-up Rekgathetse 10/19/2007 12:37:16 PM
How many more T-Bos..i suggest we build more capacity(prisons, justice system, law enforcement),pay better, then harsher penalties...

How do we kill a man that kept the country ALIVE when apartheid destroyed us Black people. May your Soul rest in peace Brother, to your Family God will reveal his maricles to you be Strong. PEACE
Nick 10/19/2007 12:37:58 PM
My heart truly goes out to his family. Don't blame the hijackers for this though, Dube was killed because our government constantly fails to protect it's citizens. How many more have to die before we finally do something about it?
Lesley 10/19/2007 12:38:07 PM
I would like to send my condolences to the Dube Family. I Pray to the All Mighty GOD above that the people responsible for the murder of LUCKY be caught and punished. RIP LUCKY
JONNY 10/19/2007 12:39:30 PM
...firstly Mr. Mbeki must acknowledge that crime is a BIG problem in SA. Give us hope Mr. Mbeki, don't give hope to the criminals. Maybe the death Lucky Dube will help the president realise this...
SICK OF THIS! 10/19/2007 12:40:01 PM
Firstly sincere condolences to Lucky's family. What gets me the most is that his kid had to see this CRAP go down... One question for the people in power who actually reads this (hoping they can read) What does it take to change the ESSENSE of man!? Time is the answer BUT HEY GUESS WHAT you've had years and years to pull your finger outa your asses... PLEASE FALL OVER AND STINK cause you're already dead inside... You do not govern... You never have and you NEVER will. **** THIS GOVERMENT!
Graham 10/19/2007 12:42:04 PM
Still no positive ideas on how to stop this crime.

It is a case of WHEN it will happen to you. I can no longer take that chance. I HAVE to get my loved ones out of this God-forsaken country before it is too late. It is the least I owe them, as much as I love this country. RIP Lucky
me 10/19/2007 12:44:06 PM
Your murder has touched me very deeply,as your music did when I was young. You were a bridge between me and the black people I share this beautiful country with and yet you have now been taken, one of the few uniters left here.May you reach Zion, peace be with your family.
nzs 10/19/2007 12:45:41 PM
By "REALLY" fighting crime, what d'you mean, Juan? How callous for you to even fantasize and express wishful thinking about the murder of another human being! This actually points to the instability I have referred to earlier. No, death penalty'd still be unconstitutional, whether it's the high-cheeck-boned, eccentric and hyperactive DA leader, a farmer in the rural areas, or anyone for that matter. And by the way, condolences should still go to the Dube family, despite your thoughtless vitriol.
Alicia 10/19/2007 12:48:07 PM
I need to say this. The comment about poor Mbeki who is also touched by crime. Hell, I hardly have words. The only way he is touched by crime, is to keep his criminal friends and comrades out of jail, and throw those that want to expose them into the dark. If Lucky's death, yesterday can start a revolution of revelations about and against crime, I am sure he would sing a song of joy. PLEASE, EVERYBODY SAY WHAT YOU KNOW. YOU ARE OUT THERE. PLEASE HELP US. LETS UNITE AND BECOME ONE NATION.
S redgard 10/19/2007 12:48:50 PM
Our skilled labour is leaving SA for fear of the violence. Our precious culture and people like Lucky Dube who strived to make SA a better place is also being destroyed, or plainly put, killed. With skill and culture "departing" from our Country, voluntarily and even involuntarily, what's left? The Government should not wait until there is no turning back! I'm afraid it might already be reaching that point...PLEASE MBEKI...DO WHAT YOU WERE CHOSEN FOR AND PAID FOR! JUST YOUR JOB!!!
Freddy Lesoof 10/19/2007 12:49:36 PM
When the dark and wicked cloud hangs over our heads, why and for God's sake why do we fold our arms and not smell the tragedy befalling our hard fought dispensation!! Did God forsake us the day our Motherland was pronounced free! Rest in peace Lucky, u awakened the emotional wounds i suffered during during Peter Tosh's death!
Shattered 10/19/2007 12:49:48 PM
Mbeki, we have had enough ! I hope you enjoy the rugby whislt you are sitting there surrounded by your hordes of security guards (paid for out of our taxes). When are you actually going to do something other than hand out condolences and insist that crime is just a "perception". For the love of God , South Africa and all South Africans helps us fight the scourge. Show us that you do actually care.
brandon 10/19/2007 12:49:53 PM
I feel no more sense of loss of Dube than for every other citizen that suffers every *%$#$@#% day. It really is a sad state of affairs. You should ask his family, Charles, about whingeing.
Jack 10/19/2007 12:51:30 PM
The only solution to social evils like this,is death penalty.May your soul rest in peace fighter.I extend my condolences to the Dube family.
WHITE SOUTH AFRICAN 10/19/2007 12:52:37 PM
The day we all stand up against crime is the day we all stand together against them letting us down. The Goverment is letting the people of this country die at the hands of a few. When we were black against white it took years to come together and end apartheid. BEWARE the day all the people turn against you (The so called leaders) you will burn and die in the streets like Lucky Dube did last night. I say remove those who causes us to suffer under crime. RIP LUCKY YOU ARE IN A BETTER PLACE NOW.
The Truth 10/19/2007 12:52:53 PM
"they are affected by the crime too" (government?!)I think not! Not with their armies of security guards,bullet-proof cars & secure residences they are not!
Observing 10/19/2007 12:53:25 PM
We may employ 100,000 more police women/men today, but it would not help to fight the crime. Crime is about a person who has no respect for another person's feelings, his belongings and his life (ie rape, theft and murder). We all in the RSA should from now on learn our children this respect for another person. Even if it is a long term project - this is the only way to stop the crime.
jack 10/19/2007 12:54:42 PM
I only hope that what happened to Lucky will happen to one or more of our goverment officials , then maybe they would take notice. R.I.P
Jurgen 10/19/2007 12:56:21 PM
it would be funny if it was'nt so sad, all these tirades against Mbheki and is band of incompetents, do you honestly believe they give a crap what you think, we are all just cattle to them, providing them with an income and easily expendable.even gross incompetence will at worst see them gone with a golden handshake at our expence.
sibo 10/19/2007 12:58:58 PM
No words can express how sad iam about this human inflicted death.People lets be together in fighting gun crime, does somebody have to die for their car? this tanishes the image of our society.Condolences to the Lucky Dube family.
Philani Dube 10/19/2007 12:59:09 PM
This is really devastating. It reflects how people have degenerated in terms of values. We are in a war zone in this country. Unfortunately I don't have solution to the crime issue, but I don't see the government taking the crime seriously. Criminals are well known in our communities esp. in the towships; people don't report them because they are scared of their lives. Criminals are well connected with the police & we have someone like Jacky Selebi as the commissioner of police.
ice 10/19/2007 1:01:26 PM
What made him so special? What about the other 50 people that gets killed everyday.Nobody have failed Lucky except himself. Was he a man of God? I surely don't know, cause I know nothing of the man and I hate reggea. One of his songs "rastas don't die" if I recalled correctly?
Lerato 10/19/2007 1:03:22 PM
South Africa and the world has been robbed a great legend never again will there a person like Lucky Dube.I was shattered when I read about his death. It just goes to show how people dont value and appreciate the gift of life.Lucky My brother may your soul rest in peace.Your music will never die
Phaldie 10/19/2007 1:03:48 PM
Lucky Dube Son of Africa will be sadly remembered and missed "you are a prisoner no more" condolences to his kids and family
zaJewel 10/19/2007 1:04:35 PM
I am so sad about this. What a loss to the nation. How come Mbeki only starts speaking out now? Strane how it's only when high-ranking officials and celebrities become victims that the crime pandemic is acknowledged. Not too long ago it was "What crime?" Everything in ZA must become a crisis & near collapse before something is done.
Alias 10/19/2007 1:05:01 PM
Government has the mandate, the resources, the money, and the authority to fight crime, but chooses to do nothing and deny there is a problem. We as the public can assist in the fight, but only in a very limited capacity, it is govt. who must lead this fight. We can't be expected to be vigilantes or put ourselves directly in the line of fire. To those that criticise the "whingers", we cannot take the law into our own hands to fight crime, but we can whine and should whine, loudly when govt. is failing in its duty to the public. Crime affects both black and white, everyone knows that, so lets not make it a black or white problem it is a south african problem!
Joe 10/19/2007 1:05:15 PM
Why cant we all go on mass action and EVERYBODY strikes for one day a week until this useless government decides 2 do something about its failure in protecting its tax payers? What do you all think? To the family of Lucky Dube, my sincere condolences, our government failed you as well, unfortunately, its only a statistic. In normal countries, ppl say thay are unlucky 2 be attacked, in this country, people say they are lucky NOT to have been attacked, What can we do? All in favour?
online 10/19/2007 1:05:22 PM
It saddens me to hear that one of great musicians South Africa has ever produced, has died from a horrible hijacking. Where is this country going to, is there a way we can stop this crime. To the family of Lucky Dude, Akuhlanga lungehlanga? Rest In Peace Lucky Dube

Yes Jonny. That is the first and most important step.Looks like it will never happen.

It is with sadness that africans refuse to wake up. We are approaching 2010 but the crime rate keeps on going up and up. Let us WAKE UP AFRICANS!! We have now lost another legend due to our ignorance....

WE KNOW WHO THEY ARE!!! Before we approach Mbheki and his clowns, you know what's your child is doing,he is not working but he wears designs clothes, where does he gets the money?you know what's your friends neighbours relatives. Criminals have Mothers, friends and families and they know about their activities. Before we turn to government.we need to start by sorting our house in order first,Remember this can happen to anyone. My condolecence to Dube's Family.May god be with your souls.
jermina lebepe 10/19/2007 1:07:48 PM
It is very sad that our South African Stars passsed away by crime which is the main incident in our country.gorvernment should work together to provide security all over the road,Dube is my role model but what happened i'm no longer have power to follow his steps because it seemslike SA's stars are passed away by the causes of robberies and crime so that means even me i going to die like Him.i really like his music may ur soul grow in my heart.may your soul rest in peace.
Wernardt 10/19/2007 1:13:36 PM
Buddy, I'd love to say that we can all take hands, smoke the peace pipe, and make it better. But we can't, not when things have gone this far. Suggestions: Punish the crime with a sentence fit for it. If not death, make SURE that no bubble-gum chewing parole officer will EVER let them out of jail. To this end, we HAVE to build more jails to forever lock up murderers. What are your suggestions then? The situation calls for drastic measures to deter future recurrences. HANG them!
Juan 10/19/2007 1:16:34 PM
Hey people! Please stop complaining about crime! Mbeki is sleeping and we don't want to wake up our allmighty magnificant ruler!

BoKFaN45000001 10/19/2007 1:18:07 PM
Well done to the ANC for destroying the hopes of millions. It is your grotesque failure to be a responssible government, resorting to the shoddiest and most destructive tactics to win power and privileges aimed only at self enrichment, vanity and other bizarre indulgences such as R96 000 lunches while the poor are starving. You are traitors to your own cause and are are leading the nation to destruction. Hamba Kahle Lucky Dube a great South African. How many more?
Paul 10/19/2007 1:20:08 PM
Kill one govt. official for every innocent victim of crime. Let us see if that works.
no-name 10/19/2007 1:20:15 PM
you cant bring back the death penalty with an inadequate police force, with an unfair judicial system. it wont improve the efficiency of the police. it will just put people who kill intruders (while trying to protect their families) on death row... rather employ a proper police force who take no shite and are paid properly and are proud to be in law enforcement
laye amamdy keita 10/19/2007 1:21:05 PM
This is wrong act , this is not the sign of peace, love , unity .This is dishonnor for south africa .This is unbilivable .Lucky Dube was for us young african a simbol of peace , love and unity .I am from west africa million of million young like me consider lucky Dube to be a mirror fro us . Lucky you are not died you still a live for me not for south african that killed you for nothing . Sorry for for me english but today is sad day for me .Please south african stop violence .
veebot 10/19/2007 1:23:08 PM
Lucky Dube's family may you find comfort. Our biggest problem is that criminals tend to be elevated to a status of heroes - especially in our township (I lived there so YES I know so). Often times we know who these idiots are and we even socialise with them cordially. Some are family! Yet we will protect and even give them a place to hide from the law. Fellow AFRICANS wake up from your slumber and wise up. Let's rat on these RATS!!!
Quirky 10/19/2007 1:27:43 PM
The interesting thing is that many of the people now expressing supposed shock and indignation against the killing of Dube are the self same hypocrites from the ignorant masses who voted this grossly incompetent crime-friendly government into power and are going to do the same in 2009. They are the same type that tell others to "shut up or leave the country".
Solution 10/19/2007 1:30:20 PM
Make the government bleed.... Stop paying taxes
Paul 10/19/2007 1:30:34 PM
Thabo Mbeki WAKE UP. So much for our Constitution, this LEGEND OF A MAN can no longer enjoy the rights entailed in it. SO MUCH FOR THE RIGHT TO LIFE. Thabo how is your 90 meter high wall going?

These songs of freedom.... Go well bra Lucky, you will be forever remembered.

I can't blame people who take the law into their hands, we are becoming slaves to criminals. Why didn't they take the car, they are now like hijackers. We need God's mercy because no man can save us from the ruthless people, but God. REST IN PEACE LUCKY,WE WILL MISS YOU.
Sabelo Mamba 10/19/2007 1:32:19 PM
What a sad loss, this is just too much.Lucky was and still is my reggae hero and the standard he set is just way up there. One question, newspapers say he was driving a polo but on TV we saw a Chrysler, I just dont understand who'd hijack a Chrysler and where does the polo come in ????????
P 10/19/2007 1:34:26 PM
Mbeki, Nqakula... This was the final straw... You can now see that you have failed your people.
Saffa 10/19/2007 1:35:22 PM
Thabo Mbeki should offer apologies rather than condolences, for his lack of honesty and action regarding crime. To the Dube family - our hearts go out to you...
Tetty 10/19/2007 1:37:42 PM
GRAHAM, in my humble opinion for a solution to the crime in our country is to PRAY TO GOD FOR A SAVER COUNTRY and let the criminals become children of God.
vincent Shabani 10/19/2007 1:38:04 PM
By killing Lucky Dube, South Africans has proved to the world that hosting world cup wont be an easy task for the rainbow nation. Killing each other is the order of the day in South Africa where innocent people are raped as well as killed. People should brace for hard times in South Africa as many will be robbed at gun point as well as killed.
Benzo 10/19/2007 1:42:15 PM
..and wishing the loved ones all the strength needed in these difficult days. In God we trust.
Kumi 10/19/2007 1:42:21 PM
Condolences to the Dube family. I enjoyed his music, even though I am Indian (but wholeheartedly South African). I am what you would call an expat wanting to come back home, but everyday there is even more horrific stories of rape, murder etc.Where does it all end ? Yes, the politicians go on about losing the talented and skilled but what guarantee do we have to be able to live withour fear! I want to come back home but only if I can live without fear
Whitey Jan 10/19/2007 1:44:46 PM
I remember listening to his music years ago, in very late 80's. They say sport unites, but in those days this man did more than just that! It was great for us to those days have our own Bob Marley or Peter Tosh! He later on came and did a show at 'NumSun' in Lime Acres. We have just lost another piece of our nation! What kind of people hate themselves so much that they won't even stand up for their own? And I talk about ALL of us, black, white, indian, coloured, oriental, etc!
wazy from senegal 10/19/2007 1:45:32 PM

He is one of more than 50 people who were murdered in SA yesterday!!! How sad for a country that is not at war. The justice system is failing us. It is too lenient on the few criminals who get caught. The national police are substandard. The metro police are used primarily for extorting money from taxpayers thru parking and speed tickets. The Society at large is failing us. They is obviously a thriving market for stolen property. Relatives of the criminals are not turning them over to the police.
Only_Me 10/19/2007 1:53:10 PM
My deepest condolences to Lucky's family, what a loss for SA ! instead of just blaming everyone including the govt we need to join hands together to defeat these thugs, do unto them as they do to others.
Goodness Gracious 10/19/2007 1:53:48 PM
My condolences to all families affected by such horrifically sad events. But as a positive suggestion about what can be done: Perhaps, for a start, we need to force the development of a new political party. A non-racially based party. A party that will govern by loud diplomacy, with a strong hand against those who threaten the safety and freedom that has been so hard fought for through the years of serious oppression. We no longer need these corrupt fools we have as our current government! Lets make a real democracy here for all GOOD South Africans to enjoy!!
Bok fan 10/19/2007 1:53:51 PM

Bring back the death penalty - there is no other way. Condolences to the family, thank you Lucky for bringing so much to our country.

My condolences to Lucky's family. About crime? well, what's the use, we don't have government support so nothing we try and do is going to help.

Until when shall we live in fear in a democratic country? I'm so devastated about Lucky's death. To his family I say you are not alone in grief. The world is with you. His killers should just surrender themselves to the police and apologise to the world. They should be ashamed of themselves. To the authorities...help us get rid of corrupt officials.
J Tengee 10/19/2007 2:00:56 PM
The world is shocked in disbelieve of what had happens to the Lengend of a man. Those coward thugs should be cought and deprived off thier rights by locking them up and threw the keys to the bottom of the sea and let them rot to hell.Such people should be label as state enemies, who must be removed from the face of the earth at all cost.
Danny boy 10/19/2007 2:02:09 PM
Maybe GOD left Africa a long time ago, Mr. Sexwale please help!!! It might be too late for Lucky but not for SA.

The reality is it takes 100years to change the mind sets of animal like people/criminals. People need to take care of their own ? they all know who they are, every criminal has a mother/father/relative or friend, these people who keep their mouths shut must also take responsibility. These criminals will not win in the end - unfortunately the end is nowhere near. Condolences to the 150,000 families of murdered victims!

Condolencies to the Dube family. It is a very sad day for South Africa. To all car high-jackers and would-be ones, if you want a car, get the damn car, why pull the trigger.thats senseless. and to Gvmt and the society at large, Lets all fight crime.
Jarrod 10/19/2007 2:08:07 PM
It is with tears I, a white man write this. A man whose life was devoted to the entertainment of his people - all South Africans and all lovers of Reggae. That he should be taken at the hands of criminal greed is heartbreaking. He, like so many others whose lives were taken mercilessly without thought, will voice no more. Our nation has lost a hero.
Banna 10/19/2007 2:08:27 PM
Unfortunately this is what the new GOVT offers. NO security to nobody, even if you are a star, you will die the same way as all other innocent people in their homes, cars etc. Condolences to his family, and I hope Govt gets a wake up call, because they feel stuff all for the thousands of other lives lost through CRIME. I hope this celebrity's death shake them a bit!
tshepo 10/19/2007 2:09:01 PM
the country has had enough,i think NEWS24 should take this as proof to the government as what South Africans think about crimes.
P 10/19/2007 2:10:04 PM
The Government has had 14 years to prove their worth... As far as I can see, Lucky Dubes death along with the comments here are proof that they have failed the people... I believe it is now time for the public to stand up together and OUST this mockery of tax payers money. Long ago it was a struggle against racial discrimination. I believe now is time for everyone Black,White,Coloured,Indian and Chinese to once again stand and form a struggle against the opression that is our current dictatorship
Grace 10/19/2007 2:10:21 PM
That is how i felt when i heard the news at 05H30 this morning! My deepest & sincerest condolences to his widow, his son, his daughter, his family, friends, fellow musicians and all south africans. We need to stand up & be counted. If we can unite under Rugby,Cricket, Soccer, we need to stand even higher against crime. A protest march needs to be held in every city & town on Saturday 26 Oct 2007 in memory of Lucky & ALL who have died a violent death in SA since 1994!
Pj 10/19/2007 2:12:39 PM
You will be missed by many! Your spirit will continue for decades. It is with deep regret that such a giving person has been taken away. One hopes that the shocking death of such a generous, peaceful and passive person's will bring about change. As far back as I can recall we have not transformed in terms of violence. It has become the Achillies heal of SA. Lets all live the ideologies of Lucky and make SA great for all.

Come Limpompo, ANC delegetes will get rid of comrade intellectuals and elect new leadership that cares about human life and dignity.Leaders who will not hide behind race cards.Leaders who will respond to the needs of the people.
veebot 10/19/2007 2:17:16 PM
STOP blaming the government! The ANC gov inherited the rot and we know it! Were there no killings and hijackings prior to 94? If we all stopped supporting crime and its fruits then only then can we start seeing the situation abate. We jack CDs/DVDs etc. That's CRIME! Expose crime and criminals! Shun criminals - major or petty! Go figure!

Its sad to see that once again we have lost another celebrity and this time due to crime. I sometimes wonder when Mr Mbeki will open his eyes and see the future as a threat to everyone living in this country. What is the use he preaches to the world but cannot stand against the crime rate. Life is only getting worse and this should be the light for our members on the governing body. Maybe oneday Mr Mbeki will realise if it hits his own family. (rape, hijack, being killed)
Not proud 10/19/2007 2:20:42 PM
Im outa here!! As soon as I come back from my holiday I'm running... I've been waiting for 1 year to convince myself otherwise, but everything has gotten worse... so I guess I got my answer. Goodbye SA.
gerald 10/19/2007 2:21:08 PM
Lucky Dube , like so many other South Africans , has been taken from his family by ruthless killers.I want to say "fight fire with fire - kill the killers" but this is going against the message of peace the Rastafari and Lucky sang about. his music and his legacy will live on in our memories whilst those of his killers will have no place in our memories. Our sincere condolences to the Dube family.Lucky ,you are sitting at the right hand of JAH.R.I.P. the Turner family
vanessa 10/19/2007 2:22:41 PM
I feel sorry for the innocent people coming to our country for the 2010 soccer world cup! PLEASE CANCEL ASAP!
Obert 10/19/2007 2:26:05 PM
South Africa, what has become of you.Is anyone proud of such heartlessness. How long shall innocent men and women die in such selfish ways.I am so shocked. Lucky , Zimbabwe will always love you, in life as in death. RIP
May 10/19/2007 2:26:41 PM
I am numb with shock that someone like Lucky, who survived illness and poverty in childhood, growing up in apartheid SA to rise above it all and lead all South Africans, white and black, with his music - songs of love and peace and solidarity. For him to be mowed down by ruthless killers driven by nothing but greed who showed no compassion as his children looked on.. It is time for us all to stand together now against crime. We cannot wait for anyone else to fight it for us.
dinky 10/19/2007 2:27:34 PM
My deepest sympathy to the Dube family especially those kids that had to witness such inhuman behaviour of our brother, God will always be with you, and to those thugs may your souls go to hell
Saffa 10/19/2007 2:29:19 PM
For those who say that a protest march 'should' be held, go ahead & organise it. Make posters, put them up around your neighbourhoods, tell people on the streets what day, time & place it will start from & then do it. Don't wait for someone else. There was an anti-crime march here in London not too long ago. It would be much more appropriate to do it in SA in front of the international media. Do it for Lucky & the thousands of other victims
S A M 10/19/2007 2:31:57 PM
My deepest sympathy 2 the Dube family. 2day we r united in mourning the death of a legend (not 4getting Taliep Petersen), 2moro we united in supporting the bokke & after Luckys funeral, we divided once again until the next time. This column seems 2 serve as a political platform 4 some people like nzs. This is not a black or white issue...it is a national problem. R I P Lucky Dube...Sam
P 10/19/2007 2:40:55 PM
sorry for my ignorance, but... Isn't the Government supposed to try correct the past? NOT MAKE IT WORSE, Stop wasting time with your mindless rambling... Either we die at the hands of criminals, or we die fighting for a dictatorless, criminal free society
Sam 10/19/2007 2:41:44 PM
Whether u r in ur house or on the road, some ruthless, greedy, sick individual/s of society is lurking & 2 top it off, ur taxes eventually keeps his gym, diet and family going IF he is caught 4 his deed...what a joke. Mbeki & party, enjoy our hard earned money when u travel the world & spend ur fat salaries (seems like only parliamentarians are the only Previously Deprived Individuals). Try and spare a thought 4 Lucky & his family!!!

This is a tragic loss. But I guess our leaders will never know what this feels like! Thanks to their lifestyles, they live in a seperate reality to us South Africans! I think all South Africans should band together and strike for as long as it takes to change our leaders minds! How about every single person not submitting their tax return, why should we pay for no service! It's disgusting that Lucky has died so cheaply when he was worth so much!

No man is an island entire to itself... Any man's death diminishes me because I am a part of mankind... Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee. RIP Lucky

Vanessa, I have just come back from my 5th trip overseas this year. They are terrified of coming year. The Soccer World Cup is going to be a washout... if it ever gets off the ground. The rest of the world know that we are criminally, the worst off in the world, and that death and danger lurks every and anywhere. I read more about the crime in our counthry there than here. Australia is waiting, willing, able and safe.
Stu 10/19/2007 3:06:54 PM
A fitting tribute fron Aiden that brought tears to my eyes. So sad that on the eve of a RWC final where the whole nation is pulling together in true ubuntu fashion, that we have to deal with this! Let's bring those thugs to book! Sincerest condolences to the Dube family. Rest in peace, Lucky!
goonsquadonline.com 10/19/2007 3:09:00 PM
I feel for the Dube family, and it is a tragic loss. WHats even more sad is that on average 50 are being murdered in South Africa everyday. Their families grieve too, and their loss is no smaller. Im tired of this. Im tired of having to deal with this rubbish on a daily basis. You can keep this country.
BA 10/19/2007 3:13:39 PM
First - Lucky R.I.P. - Now, get the soldiers lying around in the all the camps, millions of them, getting fat on tax payers money, and send them with the police into the streets to combat crime, they have the resources and the 'skills', and are already paid by you and I! We want to see results for our money!
Graham 10/19/2007 3:19:25 PM
The protest gathering/march concept I think will be a good point to start for change. Will some leader/motivator/organiser please pick it up and run with it. I am sure it will be well supported, judging by this response.
not proudly SA 10/19/2007 3:30:11 PM
I look at what happens in SA and I think to myself how numb we've become! We've lost our sense of humanity!I look at international news and see how serious a single murder/hijacking/rape is considered by populations greater then ours yet Lucky's memory will be just that,a life lost that will serve for no change, just an addition to a horrifying statistic! How do we cheer for our Bokke while people die?We have to do something, for our future and those of our children!Time to protest!Enough is enough!
ZS 10/19/2007 3:34:34 PM
RIP Lucky, I am so sad you have been taken from us. You are an icon of South Africa. As much as the enthusiasm is appreciated, should our president really be going to France to watch rugby after this tragedy? To me it is an symbol of the abandonment suffered by South Africans at the hands of their government. When will they acknowledge there is a problem? When will they act? Go to BBC News site & read the comments from around the world on this crime. No-one is fooled about what is going on in SA.
Carol 10/19/2007 3:40:08 PM
To Graham- he wants to know how this problem can be solved? Vote Anc out and bring the death penalty back, these scumbags don't deserve to live. To all the families that have lost loved ones to crime, May God be with you.
John 10/19/2007 3:41:20 PM

I am so ashamed to say that I am South African :( What a VERY big pitty!!
feroz jeewa 10/22/2007 11:36:49 AM
how sad it is that an icon is gone!!all because of a few sick thugs!!are we really afraid of these scum!i believe we have to take a stand now!!!i believe all this prevails when we ourselves have turned away from god!when we sin god creates all these tragedies in life @thus he creates fear in our hearts.
Ben 10/22/2007 12:37:27 PM
RIP Lucky. Im in Botswana and I will never set foot in SA again...never. Truth is, if this had happened in Botswana then I would rest assured knowing the scumbags would be caught and hanged. Your leaders think they'deserve' to be leaders because they were heroes during the struggle!Vote 'em out to bring the reality check.

When will the Government wake up!! Why should an innocent man lose his life. Will the crime stop in our country when one of the ministers or big shots are assassinated????
