POWER IS SWEET 27/11/2007 10:22
No wonder other African leaders don't like Mbeki. He likes criticising others and advicing them to be democratic and let go when it is time, but he is failing to let go. If Mbeki did not stand, then things would be different. It would be Zuma vs Ramaphosa vs Tokyo vs Nkosazana and then Ramaphosa would be ideal. People are voting for Zuma because they don't want Mbeki, a potential dictator. Mbeki should step down with his dignity intact. Imagine if Mbeki wins, he will never step down, NEVER........ - PAT |

Hogwash! 27/11/2007 10:23
Sorry but someone must tell you that you are writing rubbish no wonder nobody has bothered tp reply to you.For instance who was a compromise candidate between mbeki and Hani that you talk about? Answer nobody, hence I say you just write bunkum!Zuma cannot withdraw South Africa wants him, Mbeki has had his time and fumbled in trying to appease whites and so leave Zuma alone! Can't you accept that SA wants him, even womens league or were you shocked? - MJZ |

AMAZING 27/11/2007 10:27
How can people forward someone who's expiry date is almost reached?. They are promoting dictators who will make the very same people's lives misserable. People, Mbeki served almost 15 years in Government, you want to give him another 5 - 10 years?. Unbelievable. Why can't these provinces forward Ramaphosa, or someone. Africa is doomed, no wonder leaders screw us up again and again, WE LET THEM. People must not compalin about crime, we've got 'Selebi' as the boss thanks to Mbeki - UNBELIEVABLE |

ANC at a loss 27/11/2007 10:37
The ANC will not be able to make head or tails. It's in a no win situation. Neither Mbeki or Zuma can lead by example. Mbeki had his innings. Good luck ANC in voting your leader. They are divided. - Pieter |
|
 |
| |
Precidency? 27/11/2007 10:42
What one gathers from the latest results is that the majority of ANC members, who may not necessarily be pro Zuma, are anti Mbeki. If people are prepared to vote for someone under such a cloud of controversy, then the one voted against must be really out of favour with the masses. - Mankhane |

ANC leadership 27/11/2007 10:43
The ANC is clearly divide along socio economic preferences. Zuma: "pro poor" and thus socialist (=left) oriented. Mbeki: "liberal" and thus "right" of the political spectrum. The ANC is not longer a liberation movement. The logical way is to split the party in an SANC and a LANC. This will create the place for two leaders of two independent parties who will contest their programmes in "free and fair" elections where the people have their say. - Benzo |

Beginning of the end?? 27/11/2007 10:44
Imagine if Zuma wins ANC presidency in December and Mbeki remains the country?s president. It would be "A" grade soap story material at first, but things will get uglier later on. You would have two different leaders: One who rules over the country and one who rules over the ruling party. A recipe for disaster?? - Benna |

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN 27/11/2007 10:44
It is crystal clear, Msholozi is the next first man of South Africa. People love him and respect him. Mbeki step aside, this is indeed unstopable tsunami. What is a compromise candidate Mr Nxumalo?, eish we don't like to face the truth. Zuma is our next president, the ANC has spoken. Poor Mbeki even Womens League does not support him, what a sad way to exit. He should have not contested.Where are the bollionares' it looks like money cannot buy everything TSK TSK. - EDU |

Mixed-up... 27/11/2007 10:49
Sorry brother, you've got things mixed up here. Hani and Mbeki were in the race for ANC deputy presidency and Hani was assassinated. There was no compromise candidate as Mandela was a given for presidency. Secondly, you can't attribute ANC's division to Zuma as he is not the party's president. ANC wants him to correct Mbeki's leadership crisis that has divided the party so much. The people have spoken and no opinions are gonna change it! - Chris-T |

ANC Leadership 27/11/2007 10:55
It is not healthy for the party, and it is not healthy for the country. We may end up with a leader that is acceptable to the party leaders, but the public may not accept him or her, and what then? Maybe democracy has an answer.
- Tiresias |

hahaha dont worry you will get him 27/11/2007 10:56
comments by MJZ is why africa will burn to the ground. every black in SA cant stand whites its so blatantly obvious.you will get Zuma and when he sends SA to hell, he'll blame the whites again and again the ignorant masses will believe him.you can take our jobs and our sport and our lives but you will remain as thick as the day you were born. thats what makes you inferior to the rest.you need laws to take whites out of sport and put blacks in because you dont have the talent.its actually funny - no-name |

True that!! 27/11/2007 11:00
If compromises were reached in 1992 to pave way for Mbeki then why not likewise to JZ?Does'nt this bring the Xhosanostra concept back to the fore.?JZ is been labelled an illiterate by few literates but he's got that talent of winning people's hearts (young, old,(I)lliterate or not)Mbeki is to blame for the divisions caused within the ANC for his autocratic style of rule, the unjustified lashing & defending of certain individuals surely must've reciped to this tasteless affairs within ANC... - Les-Maada |

MJZ 27/11/2007 11:10
Firstly don`t insult anybody by telling them they write rubbish, this is his thoughts on the matter unlike your sheeplike thinking.Ramaphosa was suppose to replace Mandela,Mbeki popped up from nowhere and look what happened,Zuma on the other hand is an oppurtunist who thrives on the ignorance of masses to pave his path to enrichment and our destruction. - fatman |

MJZ and Chris-T, the timelines my comrade the timelines, homework go and find info on the dates of the conferences that have been held by the ANC in South Africa since the unbanning, Chris Hani was not assassinated before the Durban conference, he was assassnated a year and a half after that, I repeat again Mr Walter Sisulu was the compromise candidate. - Mxolisi Selby Shabangu |

Zuma for president 27/11/2007 11:16

ANC 27/11/2007 11:20

Conference Dates 27/11/2007 11:23
The 48th National Conference of the ANC was held in Durban from 2 - 6 July 1991. It was the first ANC National Conference to be held inside South Africa since 1959, and my friends Chris Hani was killed on April 1993 almost two- 2 years after the conference.

"His Excellency UMshlozi Zuma" 27/11/2007 11:34
Hello Guys. Difference of opinion doesn't call for insults and racial tones. Argue with facts. Zuma won the rape case and was cleared of corruption charges because his lawyers could argue constructively. Finally Tokyo is not fit to be President.Money cannot buy you eveything. Ramaphosa is a passive leader who thinks the political game is played by rules. He has missed an opportunity again by playing Mr. Nice guy. Zuma has bounced back because he is a born politician. Good luck Zuma in Polokwane. - Doink |

Leadership Races 27/11/2007 11:34
ANC has always had leadership races and this race is no different to the ones in the past. What you do forget is the fact that the same ANC has a way of healing itself from these processes. Unfortunately the nature of a "race" punts 2 people against one another and the unintended consequences in what we have always dealt with. It therefore doesnt mean we are divided, the org is a democratic one and therefore every member accepts the outcome according to this principle. It aint all doom and gloom. - Cape Town Kid |

Semantics befuddle the argument 27/11/2007 11:38
This goes deeper than the mere ANC leadership race, down to the core of whats wrong with South Africa. The ANC is divided, because the nation is divided. There still is a split between the haves and the have nots... not racial lines, monetary divisions. It goes to stand that there still is a big a-moral group within the population, who dont care who gets voted in.. as long as the gravy train makes a stop in their community...criminal, rapist, corrupt or not.Start thinking about SA people! As a whole - Noctus |

There you go... 27/11/2007 11:38
A first in the world, a president who rules from prison.... Seriously though, Zuma sounds like he has just entered politics. He's punting stuff that would make anyone vote for him, the problem is he CANNOT do all the things he has promised - he does not have the power, and if he does then we all in serious trouble. - A DJ |

My vote 27/11/2007 11:39
With the high levels of crime that we live with, who is willing to tackle this problem head-on will win the votes of most South Africans, irrespective of their political beliefs. In Sunday Times on 25/11/2007, it was reported that Zuma will consider bringing back the death penalty - he's got my vote. - Al |

What has JZ done to make him so popular? 27/11/2007 11:41
I am reading all the comments about JZ and one questions keeps popping up in my head. What has he done to make him so popular under the masses? He didn't do anything special when he was Deputy President. He hasn't stated anywhere what his economic plans will be to help the poor. He has been more sympathetic to whites than Mbeki.
Can someone please answer this? - VB |

What do you mean not healty...proper english people 27/11/2007 11:49
Can anyone tell me.does disagreement(dissimilarity, variance) means division(not-united,separated,alienated)?if you dont agree with your wife it means you are divorced? In a democratic state debate is essential.the current leadership encounter is very healthy for democracy and Mr. Nxumalo you are wrong to say the ANC chairperson attacked JZ, he lashed out on the ATTITUDE and BEHAVIOUR of some ANC members not the persornality of JZ.The people will vote and the decision will be accepted by all. - kolobe |

Politics and business 27/11/2007 11:54
It's funny how some people think good businessmen make good politicians. I wonder if there's any evidence worldwide to back that up. Politics needs politicians and business needs businessmen. I suppose Bill Gates would be ruling USA by now. Politics is about fine-tuning country policies to enable business, labour, education, health, infrastructure, security, welfare etc to prosper. You need the political acumen for that not a fat bank account. - Chris-T |

Death Penalty 27/11/2007 12:03

Human rights would not let him bring the death penalty back, but he did actually stop short of saying he would. A true leader would stand aside while he has a cloud overhead - TM - tm |

JZ credentials 27/11/2007 12:09
While most non-ANC members are familiar with Mbeki's credentials they wonder where JZ has popped up from. He wasn't a deputy president by mistake and has always been popular among ANC members. Briefly, he was an underground operative and later the head of ANC's intelligence. He used his charm offensive to end the bloody violence in KZN and restored ANC & IFP relationship. At least now some of you can go beyond the shower. - Chris-T |

What has he done???????? 27/11/2007 12:14
Those who are suporting a person who is (1) was wrongly aqquited of rape charges and deserves to be in Jail (2) Still under investigations for corruption (3) Believes in showering after sleeping with an HIV+ person need their heads to be THOROUGHLY checked as there is something wrong with it.
It seems even the ANC women's League are just IDIOTS!!!!!!
What has he done before or now to deserve the leadership throne?

The majority has spoken?! 27/11/2007 12:19
Just over 4000 select individuals making decisions for how many millions of ANC voters (not members) across the country? Doesn't seem like democracy or majority rule to me.JZ may win this ANC "election" hands down but the national election of 2009 may be a different story altogether (and by then he may have to rule from Westville Prison anyway) HAHA! - The Truth |

I have read all the comments, and yes neither Mbeki or JZ can be our future leaders. What world would want to have a leader with corruption and allegable "rape" cases against him? Yes he was not find quilty, all thanks to good laywers and a bad law system !!! JZ speaks what the people want to hear, can he provide, NOPE. Than rather give us a good businessman who know that if there is no money in the country, then everything thing will be falling apart!!! Remember people: Money rules. - Susan |
