"Blinding ignorance does mislead us. O! Wretched mortals, open your eyes!"
    - Leonardo da Vinci

Some of our foremost impending fears have become a bittersweet reality.

In many ways, the outcome of the ANC's presidency has an uncanny parallel to the culture that so typifies the ruling party of the day. The culture of corruption, questionability and overall distrust within the party has extended to it's selecting of a president, who himself, is morally, ethically and intellectually compromised.

Those of us who were never President Thabo Mbeki's biggest fans, were always able to recognise that for all his shortcomings, and many there were, we had a leader that we could be proud of to represent us on the global stage.

We always had a leader with ambition, with guile, with resolve and with an uncompromising academic background. A man who gracefully held the South African dream and flag in high stead wherever he went and wherever he spoke.

Now, we have to make peace with a man who, ever so often, breaks out into song and dance for no apparent reason. A man with a tainted finesse, possibly even no finesse at all. A man epitomised by untoward flows of cash and with proclivities to bribes. Most notably, a man shadowed by recriminations who is very possibly on the cusp of criminal prosecution.

Is South Africa really in such dire straits that the best leader it could produce is someone with a dubiously doubtable sense of morality and integrity?

    Scruples

How will this kanga-sporting, tribal-singing statesman walk through the corridors of the worlds highest political offices on Capitol Hill, in Downing Street and on the general global platform without embarrassing us with his evidently deeply-flawed, often nonexistent, intellectual capacity?

Thinking back to the iconic ANC leaders of the past, the Luthuli's, the Thambo's and Mandela's, while attempting not to be overcome by a sheer sense of despondency and depression when comparing this new leader, is simply an implausible, unreal task.

How did the ANC come to sacrifice everything it stood for in exchange for the unscrupulous?

Surely this is all a horrible nightmare, is it not?

Leonardo da Vinci's apt words above should resonate through every rational South African mind today, for a truly terrible tragedy has befallen our great land. Open your eyes O' kindred souls, and wonder, what will now become of us under the stewardship of Zuma?

Jacob Zuma, for all his shenanigans, has a daunting task ahead of him; the task of proving to the fair-minded South African that he is worthy of Presidency of the republic come 2009.

The collective weight of his many defects will continually play against him, and if indeed, he is to lead us to advancement and a prosperous future, he must abandon his penchant for machine gun chants and most of all, he must prove his greatest critics wrong. There is simply no other way.

Will he be able to do this, or will he crumble under the weight of his own fatal flaws?

      Give the man a chance
    19/12/2007 07:31
AMongst all these lies its hard 2 know the truth before seeing what JZ does with this new power. Amongst all the benefactors of the Arms Deal and various other such schemes, he was picked on by the prosecutors. His rape-case appears 2 have been a set-up though his conduct was nonetheless despicable. What's more scary than JZ is the conduct, and the disregard for the law and for righteous concerns over AIDS, poverty, corruption and racism, by his followers. Is he maybe a good man with nasty fans? - Pieter Joubert

      yes
    19/12/2007 07:37
you have an indian party in KZN and we never complain. As of Mbeki, ask your self why he did not want to step down.he also received a bribe in Germany.he does not want to be exposed but now the time has come.dont be bitter or leave for india (whinger). - m

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 07:44
Zuma Zum their go's our country The new ANC president that think's you can shower away your HIV virus. What a joke and disgrace for our country SOUTH AFRICA - CEU

      He will lead.
    19/12/2007 07:46
Rivaan who? An overwhelming majority of the delegates elected Zuma to be president and he has the support of so many other South Africans. - KB

      Exactly Rivaan!!
    19/12/2007 07:56
We have a HUGE problem in this country if the president is someone who NO ONE can look up 2. What would you tell a rapist in court if the president is one? How could you blame anyone for doing what the president does? You all are sick and need a lot of help!!! I'll pray for you all!!! - nl

      the tribe has spoken
    19/12/2007 07:57
zuma has been elected fairly by the masses,so everybody should respect that and accept that zuma is the one who is wanted by the anc as the president.for now we must just wait n see what will happen with the scorpions - olaf

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 07:59
The overwhelming majority may be idiots as well, or do they believe they can lead this idiot by his nose ? I agree with Rivaan, there are dark days ahead of us, and the best we can hope for is that the NPA will do their job for a change and put JZ away for a couple of years. - HN

      I told you so
    19/12/2007 08:00
I predicted this many years ago. The ANC will never be able to make the poor people rich, therefore the leaders will become more and more populist promising the earth. When they fil to deliver, they and the poor will be content to simply pull everybody down with them ala Mugabe. - lad

      The Beauty Of Democracy
    19/12/2007 08:04
Mbeki had 2 terms, which clearly means that the ANC loved him and had absolute faith in him. However, he somehow lost the ppl and they felt he did not deliver. The same will happen to Zuma if he doesnt deliver. What we saw yesterday was the perfect epitome of democracy - where the ppl decide. Mbeki cudv used the resources at his disposal to change the outcome,bt he allowed democracy to prevail. Once again, the ANC showed the world the true meaning of democracy. - Athi

      JZ
    19/12/2007 08:05
I couldn?t agree with you more? The events have been portrayed on international TV as the man awaiting trial for corruption and having faced rape allegations is to be the next president of South Africa? I guess there?s only one thing left to do? ...BRING THE MAN HIS MACHINE GUN & CLIMB ABOARD THE GRAVY TRAIN - Stretch Beaucanon

      Shock, awe and disgust.
    19/12/2007 08:05
1/3 of the voters were sitting and watching in disgust. Our pres walked away cutting a lonely figure, I felt his gut which was difficult to swallow. Now, the ANC has really become a circus, they will have to fight hard to unite the party. Only if we had a credible opposition party which fought to unite all SA, they would have my vote. Unfortunately they are lost in their world to safeguard white supremacy and oppose black advancement. They also have become a right-wing party. What have we done SA - Libembe

      M the Zuma
    19/12/2007 08:08
M is purely a Zuma since his thinking seems to be clouded by corruption and his potency aimed a kanga wearing innocent beautiful women.....And lastly, his pea-size brain has no ability to see what Zuma stands for...M you are disgusting and so is your leader. - s

      Run, while you still can.
    19/12/2007 08:08
Just open your eyes and observer the current situation. There is a huge increase in attacks on whites (genocide) in this country already. Do some web surfing and read pro-Zuma news groups and news papers. Jacob Zuma is an outspoken white hater. I have already been warned by some of my black friends to get out of SA before it is too late. I am already busy selling all my fixed assets (while it is still worth something) and seeking employment abroad. Get out of ZIM II while you still can. - Leon

      2009 elections
    19/12/2007 08:09
I think a lot of pressure rests on the shoulders of the average ANC voter now for 2009: (1) Do I vote for a candidate I never asked for in order to keep the ANC in power? (2) Do I not vote at all? (3) Do I vote for an opposition party instead of the ANC (not likely)? I think last night was an example of people voting with their hearts and not their minds.I would have preferred a wider choice of candidates personally.Also,2300 votes cannot be a true display of the will of all ANC supporters. - The Truth

      What were these people thinking?
    19/12/2007 08:10
Rivaan its like you read my mind. These are my fears as well.Zuma is going to embarass this country. - Leeds

      Excellent Article
    19/12/2007 08:10
There goes everything good and decent every South African ever stood for. Don't be ridiculous and utterly stupid to make this an issue of race. It is what it is: a man completely unfir by way of of his flawed character who is now to lead us. Shame on South Africa! - Renz

      It was never about democracy
    19/12/2007 08:10
The ANC, like many other ruling party in most other African countries where never interested in Democracy. This was just a ploy to get into power by manipulating the lesser educated majority. Its all about ownership & dictatorship. Zuma represents the beginning of the end for the majority. A powerband of wealth awaits him & his close associates. Despair & gloom await the common people. - Malcolm X

Jacob Zuma - President of the ANC
    19/12/2007 08:10
Hello folks; pse don't panic just yet. He's still 2 face court on corruption charges & I'll put money on it that he does. I personally don't c him as President of South Africa at all. As for Thabo Mbeki facing charges for his part in arms deal scandal, pse say thanx 2 Tony Blair, former PM of the UK. One of his final acts was 2 stop an enquiry into the BAE scandal. Y-cause ministers in the UK Labour Government r up 2 their eyeballs in this scandal! That can of worms has been sealed & buried! - Grace

A week is a long time in politics
    19/12/2007 08:10
It now seems that the NPA HAS to put forward its charge of cooruption against Jacob Zuma, otherwise we are never going to have this laid to rest. By the way, although JZ is the one identified, I do believe there are others who profited from the arms deal (R63 billion and counting) and they should be brought to book as well. But didn't JZ say "If I go down, I take others with me"? Perhaps he should name names. - Dave Robbins

      Zooma!!
    19/12/2007 08:11
Reaping the rewards of communism ? this is what it is. Zuma now owes COSATU and SACP big time ? and we all know what they stand for? The ANC never was intended to be a political party. It is, and will always be, a freedom movement ? secretly led by the SACP. - Sebastian

      Leader? What leader?
    19/12/2007 08:11
To many anc delegates, he may be their desired choice, but please do not feel you can speak on behalf of the whole country KB, as there are many that see Zuma for what he is, a hapless fool. - Lee

I will not be voting 4 a criminal
    19/12/2007 08:13
DA you've got my vote! Oh and 4 those who like to make assumptions - i'm not white - ijm

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 08:13
South Africa is heading for a disaster under the leadership of Zuma, you can count on that.I am scared. - Masete

      open your minds
    19/12/2007 08:13
Zuma represents the lower class of South Africa, and with mbheki it was the case of the richer get richer and the poor get poorer, thats why the so called intellectual rich people are complaining. No doubt the man has a lo to work on,but with the help of his fellow man he might just do the world proud. - still

      last hoorah

The ship is sinking - no maybe it's sunk... Watership down... swim rabbits swim - CyoN

      He will emerge
    19/12/2007 08:14
I think what is impontant here is that Zuma believes in the collective leadership. He does not believe in the solo,so the right people like Kgalema his deputy on his side, he will successfully lead the country. Mbeki brains are also still available to be utilised and Zuma is likely to take advantage of that as way of bridging the divide that was cost by the presidential contest. Jesus often told people he healed that your faith has made you whole. So as South African we must not be negative. - Xihahele

      Zuma - The waiting game
    19/12/2007 08:14
To all the idiot Zuma supporters.Remember not to complain in future about your lot, which I think will at best not change and a worst become a nightmare.I guess we'll just have to wait and see.The horse is dead, long live the horse. - Ducman

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 08:16
The DA must be rubbing their hands in delight - I predict far more votes for opposition parties in the next election. Pieter from my perspective its not about giving the man a chance but rather believing that our leaders should be an example of good character and strong values - I do not see this in JZ and to support him would be to say that this lack was ok. - Gail

      plot that backfired
    19/12/2007 08:20
Love him or hate him, Jz is the ANC president and people better get used to the idea. People seem to have forgotten that he held the Deputy president of the country position(the 2nd highest position in the land) for many years and with success at that before "they" decided he was not fit to be the next president. We'll see the dirt that will come out when Mbeki steps down in 2009 and i urge the Zuma office to then re-visit he Chris Hani issue as many questions seem to be unanswered! - Boss

      Well well
    19/12/2007 08:21
I get the feeling that a lot of people do not agree with transition.Change is good and before you judge put youreself on the spotlight.Zuma has not been given a chance and so was the unknown Mbeki.Comments should be made based on all the facts from the beginning of this issue and not speculation. In my opinion Mbeki is overrated. - Siya

      ;-(
    19/12/2007 08:21
Im black, and Ive always supported ANC through their shortcomings, but what happened @ Polokwane is unheard of.My vote in 2009 goes to DA.I think its gona be white man time sooner than expect and the symptoms are staring to show.(allowing Zuma to lead is like boarding a flight with an unlisenced pilot, and dont tell me you dont expact it to crash) - anne

      At least
    19/12/2007 08:21
My fiance and I are emigrating to Aus soon. I feel sorry for my family. Bunch of sheep, these ANC ppl. - Joe

      The Zuma vote
    19/12/2007 08:22
Just shows how uneducated the people from the so-called grass roots areas are. This was a black vote. Voting a man with no education (that says it all) to possibly represent our nation to other presidents with degrees, experience and clean records. Zuma DOES not represent the majority of people in SA with an IQ of over 100. Sorry for you - you can toi toi all you like its not gonna build the infrustructure, solve the crime or build the housing. I hope Zuma is charged and convicted. - Fern

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 08:23
I believe now is more than a perfect time for all those who want to go to Australia to pack their bags. The remainder of us will contibue to strive for a better life for all. Most of you continue to use the tired line " Took a shower" and become defensive when we occasionally refer back to apartheid. What a bunch of hypocrites. India and Australia a waiting, i can guarantee you'll be back in 5 years just like your uncles who left around 1994. - Funnybones

      God chooses who He wants
    19/12/2007 08:23
The whole truth is that we do not see or think as the Almighty does, hence Zuma for Presidency. It is very strange that God chooses the very same people we condemn and regard as not fit to lead. I think South Africa will just have to brace itself for the Zuma leadership. What God declares good, nobody can change. Hate him or love him, but do not ignore this man. God bles you. - Dominic

The best the Zuma camp can do now is to make
    19/12/2007 08:25
Mr Mbeki's life as president of SA unbearable so that he can call for early elections and Zuma can quickly get in as a prez and pardon himself as these "charges were simply made up".All ANC deployees will be called back and the right ones put in their positions.Thez a lotto humiliation being brewed for those that didn't toe the line and these are gonna lose their jobs.Viva up and coming circus, viva! Can you see now everyone in the Zuma camp is guaranteed a position in govt, Eskom,Telkom,IDC etc - Badi

Go to hell with your article
    19/12/2007 08:25
Zuma led the intelligence structures of the underground movement that toppled the apartheid government eventually. A protege of a bhambatha rebelion, a brave man who'll bring back the glory days of the ANC as the peoples party. You can demonise him for what I care but this is the man we've been looking for. - Son of man

      And just when we thought...
    19/12/2007 08:25
things in this country could not get any worse. Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the newest joke of this decade... SA. These so called delegates who elected Zuma are the biggest bunch of uneducated, uncivilized idiots to be found. And they are choosing the new leader? -- Sad times on the way. - JK

      Well...
    19/12/2007 08:25
This outcome was to be expected. Mbeki has only himself to blame. While his own country was suffering under crime and poverty, he jetset the globe trying to solve all Africa's problems apart from our own. Keeping quiet about "The Mad Despot" north of the Limpopo, the Zimbo's came to SA to murder off the people Mbeki was supposed to protect. Nope, if the Mbeki-camp didn't see this one coming it doesn't say much about their intelligence. - Jack The Beanstalk

      Arrogant
    19/12/2007 08:27
I guess you are right, we need to face reality,I am Mbeki Supporter but i did not support him for third term. All Zuma support are arrogant and what they do is to deny reality and deliberate on it, instead they argue against it, they thing reality was created by others not their deeds. We did not sleep with HIV+ girl, is Zuma who did that, we did not appoint Schaik as our financial adviser, Zuma did. We did not hand ANC to the Communist,Zuma did, all this are realities you created. - Gee

      Zuma: Delight of despair
    19/12/2007 08:27
I find it sad that "m" still thinks along racial lines and tells Rivaan to go to India. It has nothing to do with race, but rather with us as a nation and what is best for us as a nation. Even though a majority of delegates voted for JZ the question has to be asked was there not a better candidate that is not tainted by a rape case and possibly corruption? How can we be a proud nation and keep on building our future if our leader is tainted? - John

      Chance for Opposition
    19/12/2007 08:28
This is a chance for the opposition parties to offer us a better option come 2009, coz most SA'ns are going to need someone else to vote for? - LT

      disappointed
    19/12/2007 08:28
Can anybody tell me what happened in Polokwane? Not for a moment i think that the results of the ANC election has anything to do with the support for Zuma. Its more a reflection that the ANC members were voting against Mbeki than voting for Zuma.Congrats JZ only time will tell if you're a victim of various conspiracies until then God Save Our Country. - harris

      This is of course...
    19/12/2007 08:29
not taking into account that he may be charged with tax evasion, bribery, fraud and corruption again (it is no wonder that his supporters wish to see the end of the NPA, which will happen if they are merged with Selebi's goon squad). - The Truth

if you can't beat them join, if can beat them do it.
    19/12/2007 08:29
That?s what we need for our country if not happy leave the country and Zuma shall rule as others did. - L'vovo

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 08:29
"m" clearly has issues - why make such personal remarks about Rivaan's Indian (perhaps) roots? The FACTS speak for themselves - Zuma is a buffoon, and a dishonest, ignorant one at that. Whatever one's polictical leanings, Madiba, Mbeki etc have dignity - Zuma makes a spectacle of himself on a regular basis. How the civilised world must be laughing at our banana republic... - Anthea

      Sad, sad, sad
    19/12/2007 08:30
This man stood in court under oath and made the most paternalistic, thoughtless, ignorant statements about HIV, women and the Zulu culture. He showered away the risk of Aids, claimed that women showed desire for a man by wearing a skirt and having their legs crossed, and that it is against Zulu culture for a man to leave a women (who wears a skirt and sits with crossed legs) unsatisfied. He claimed it was his cultural DUTY (!!!) to have sex with this woman. And now he leads the ANC. Shame on us!! - Karamba

      Well said Gail
    19/12/2007 08:30
I agree with Gail, I think that it's spot on that the DA must be rubbing its hands in glee with this outcome. I also predict alot more opposition votes come 2009. Besides, who really wants a man with a Grade6 education and NO common sense whatsoever to be our president - renz

      Leave behind your pettyness...
    19/12/2007 08:31
It's people with appalling attitudes like 'm' who make this country distasteful and unpleasant to inhabit. Why is it that when people don't have anything worthwhile to say, they resort to petty, uncalled for insults? Anyway, if a rapist and fraudster becomes president of this country, i will definitly 'leave for india'.- SSN - S. Naicker

      Zulu
    19/12/2007 08:33
If the Afrikaners could not do it and the Xhosas were to silent about critical issues, then I say YES give the Zulus a chance. Mbeki's downfall was not himself, but the morons that he appointed aka Health Minister, Minister of Justice, Selebi etc etc. Cry babies.... - Malan

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 08:34
Yes I agree with your sentiments Rivaan. Yes, delegates did vote by democratic process, but the point is that there is an ethical crisis in our country. Whether it's politics, business, crime, etc. the slogan of the day is "Take what I can, as soon as I can & if I get caught, well so what! There's always a bribe or bail to get me off the hook." Zuma will sink or swim, but methinks he will be treading water for the moment - Realist

      Oh No!
    19/12/2007 08:35
As Zille mentioned in her article, this is a dismal day for South Africa. At least Mbeki has a track record that we can trust. JZ has so many unfinished ends hanging over his head, which all lead to dishonesty. Could the ANC not find a candidate with honesty, intregrity and someone that all parties can believe. Last night looked like a circus and is indicative of what is to come. - D

      Just a comment
    19/12/2007 08:35
I feel sorry for the masses! I really do. Another corrupt politician! Nowhere in the world, only in Africa do these things occur. He still has to face corruption charges? I doubt it. We will still be the laughing stock of the world, and his followers know no better SHAME.WELCOME TO AFRICA!!!! - carol

      Take it easy Rivaan
    19/12/2007 08:36
Make no mistake I am no Zuma supporter, but to take the man to task because he is proud to be Zulu is deplorable. (your reference to his kanga and tribal singing). If anything the man knows where he comes from and is proud of it. Besides the kind of statesman you looking for does not exist, (King Solomon srings to mind), so why not have Zuma they say change is as good as a holiday. - The Dicisple

      We are F******
    19/12/2007 08:36
Yeah, enough said. Let what must be, be. Lets see what the rand does now... - Steve

      Racist behaviour

Its funny how so many people above criticise others, telling them to go to India or Australia. This is not a colour issue but a moral one. Anyone else in the ANC would have been great (maybe not Mantu) but to have a president who has been so easily manipulated by the Schaiks and is not respected overseas cannot be good for the future of the country. One only hopes that he surrounds himself with smarter staff and I am sure they will be the true leaders of the country, with Zuma as their puppet. - Anon

      Congrats to Zuma
    19/12/2007 08:39
Personally i couldn't care who is the ANC President, but the best man according to the majority that voted won the race.what i would like to know, will he survive to lead the country.CEU did Zuma really say that a shower will stop him from contracting HIV, or was he misqouted. ok granted sleeping with a HIV pos female is not the smartest thing to do, however even myself i take a shower after sex isn't that what a lot of people do after sex. - skarr..

      Stop being foolish
    19/12/2007 08:40
It is foolishness for a man of your intellect to make such comments about the new president of the ANC. Dont you know that a person is not presumed guilty until proven so? what then should stop him form leading the ANC and the nation if he is not, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that all charges made against Zuma are false and were intended to create the same mind that you have within South Africans but for your information it has dismally failed, this is not capital hill fool. - Qabaniso Dube

      Why JZ?
    19/12/2007 08:40
Please, lets respond on the article. Leave the low and easy comments about the writer and his background for yourself.I thought we live in a SA where cultural background should ADD to the rich diverse country we have, learn from each other and the past.Grow up! JZ will make SA look like an inmature country again.People of SA,why did you elect this man?Why do you want a leader that will not receive support from abroad? Why a leader that has a doubtful past? Why did man as a role model for your kids? - Why JZ?

      These political games
    19/12/2007 08:41
I believe that its all thrown out in the open to test how far we have come... to lead South Africans to create an opposition party and build further. All this other babbling is media play and has no relevance. Really boring actually! - ElectroMan

      You reap what you saw
    19/12/2007 08:41
it is very interesting that most writers seem to think people Like JZ and the suppoters that voted him in are un educated uncivilized but just think for a second it was your grandfathers that created bantu education that made sure that black people dont get opportunities to study that made sure that parents dont afford to take their children to varsities then JZ was busy mobilising the anc structures that is why we have a democracy because of people like him - ntokozo

      Fair ANC Representative
    19/12/2007 08:42
Zuma stands for all the the ANC represents: Corruption; Immoral; Bribery; Liars; Cheats; People who cannot think for themselves. An idiot like this to be president of the ANC and potentially president of SA - I will never respect him or what the ANC stands for. The illiterate brain-dead ANC lackeys will get what they deserve......a coming of a 2nd Zimbabwe. First chance I get - I will be out of this place ruled by crooks/liars/rapists/criminals/terrorists..... - True Blue SA

This is a truly sad day for SA.................
    19/12/2007 08:46
Who in their right minds votes for a person to lead them, who has been charged with corruption and rape (even if not convicted. What does this say about your character is this is who you are voting for. Do you also want to jump on the gravy train, make your corrupt money and leave the majority of the poor people poorer..... This is a sad day for SA and the people of SA .... my vote has changed and now goes to the DA - Emily

Now I want a machine gun too......
    19/12/2007 08:48
Seriously my Norwegian wife read the paper from Norway yesterday and the headlines were as follows.... "Take a shower after sex to not get HIV, This could be South Africas next president." Not to worry those of us like me will leave or already have. Aids will clearly be hidden topic again as this monkey does not even know that you can get HIV and that a shower wont prevent it. Investors will run away, After all who will want to invest in a country who has corrupt leadership? Good luck SA - anon.

Many things come to mind- about the historic event of last nite. Never have we seen such a contested ANC election. Democracy prevailed. The country's economic engineer - dropped for a man riddled with scandal. Yet prevailed as the president of the country. Lets give him a chance, let him prove us wrong - and to the SACP & COSATU - Let the man rule in peace! Have the country's best interest in heart!! PLEEEZE! - nmm

Response to Son of man on "Go to hell with your article"
    19/12/2007 08:54
Son of man. Zuma might have lead the underground movement back in the day but what has he done since the ANC has come to power to help anyone else? If you think he has your best interests in mind you are sadly mistaken. Everything he has done has shown that he has no morals and a blatant disregard for justice. He is only after power and personal gains. - Rui

      Leon...
    19/12/2007 08:55
Pls stop that gabbage about hatred. If you want to leave SA, pls do so.I am not a JZ fan( by a long mile) yet I have to contend with the fact that he leads the ANC. I think you have to run away from your own demons, prejudice and lack sheer knowledge about politics. It is good that TM is gone, as long as the so called delegates are there we are sure of the next reshuffle... - Justin

The responses of people like M just proves how uneducated the "masses" are...
    19/12/2007 08:58
Just wake up and smell the roses - it's not about race. To tell the author that blacks do not criticize an "Indian party" so an Indian is not allowed to criticize JZ or the ANC is completely idiotic. And here I thought there is only one race, the human race (according to the ANC nogal!) and yet the morons like M keep on making comments like the ANC being a black party, the DA a white party, etc. Oprah Winfrey once said, be careful not to proof the racists right-guess what these idiots are doing. - J.O

      Praise the Lord
    19/12/2007 08:59
As a christian I never realised how politics are so real until i found myself praying to God, asking Him to allow Zuma to win the votes and i believe i'm not the only one who prayed.I 'm so excited about he outcomes, the only threat we were facing as South African was to let one man have power for too long and that was gonna be a magnet to the destruction of our country and i'm so glad that South Africans are not scared for change, this shows that we can be a better country. - J

      I am staying in SA
    19/12/2007 08:59
I don't like JZ, but I am staying in SA, I am not going anywhere!!! This is what democracy is about learning to accept new leaders even if you don't like them. Now the ball is in the court of opposition parties, convince us why we vote for you. DA should stop its anti-black attitude, and Dellile pls -SA has serious problems other than the arms deal, other parties are just irrelevant. We need opposition parties that can effectively challenge the current status quo!!!! - Thabin

Holomisa & Cyril it's your fault
    19/12/2007 09:00
You two guys would have given us alternatives. Mbeki was wrong with his leadership style, but Zuma was the wrong choice to replace me. Unethical, delusional and populist the swing voters must surely be crossing their fingers that this man delivers. I think not. He wasn't elected for deliver, but to get Mbeki out. Shaik for Minister of Defence. - Kwae

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 09:01
We need to enjoy the next few months and live like there is no tomorrow - after 2009 there will be NO tomorrow. No wonder the likes of Tokio/cyryl and the likes don't enter politics. They know it's a shambles. The masses will never wake up and realise the ANC will not help the poor and uplift the country. They only look after themselves.I predict ZIM II before we wipe the brown stuff from our eyes.Another African country goes down!!! - Chris Pieters

      songsa about weapons ?
    19/12/2007 09:03
Zuma will urge all his supports to sleep with HIV women and men and then take a shower, he will supply the soap to wash from a foreign deal in which he will face corruption deal for stealling some of the soap. bet you he got his info from Minister of health. and if you catch the hiv disease, eat beatroot and garlic and blame it on apartheid..... lol... - wit gert

      Zuma
    19/12/2007 09:04
The ANC has always had a proud intellectual tradition. What on earth went wrong now? Zuma, probably through no fault of his own, has no formal schooling (did some night classes as an adult). To quote Churchill: "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." The democratic process has left us in the lurch - I have no desire to be ruled by the unruly and undisciplined mob I've seen on TV in the last 4 days. - Susan

There are always more than one side to a coin Rivaan. I for one can't believe that a deranged, ranting mob was allowed to pick a man with credentials as damaged as Zuma's - its is a worrying sign for the RSA. But then again, is it as worrying as the years from the late 80's to the middle 90's? Was there not more fear then than now? Was there not larger, more violent mobs of zombies running down the streets baying for blood than now? For want of a better choice, let us wait and see what comes. - Deon

      Dear Zuma supporters
    19/12/2007 09:05
A couple of the pro-Zuma comments here are so arrogant and forthright they are typical examples of the 'I-take-what-I-want-because-I-deserve-it' mindset of lower-class criminals in this country. - Z

    19/12/2007 09:09
Charity begins at home , that is something that Mr Mbeki forgot , while he was out flying the so -called flag, our women and children are being raped every second, we talk about a booming economy but we have no clear strategy on job creation. I think Zuma will want to fix local matters first before attending the rest of the world, thats why i say he is what we need! - mpho

The people have spoken. Those who are anti-JZ have a bitter pill to swallow in this new dispensation. Those leaving the country I wish them good luck on the other side. Congrats JZ. Lethumshiniwam... - Fresh

      Accept the Change
    19/12/2007 09:16
People, get use to the idea that JZ is the president of the ANC. Regarding NPA actions, they would have presses new charges long time ago if they had the muscles to do that while JZ was nobody. With all the support and fuel from Mbeki, they stood a better chace then to charge him, but now remember that Mbeki will be taking orders from JZ. Poor NPA must just forget about JZ and chase Selebi if they know where is therir bread buttered. Congraturations Msholozi!!!, Me and my family will support you - Xolani

      Well said Ntokozo

Only the fools will have foolish comments, Big ups to JZ.Everyone loved him when he calmed down the Zulus in hostels, no one had the gutz to do that but only him, everyone loved him when he opened doors for the youth of SA with Umsobomvu. No one noticed then that he is un educated. He might not but he is indeed a peoples person surrounded by good advisers. If you guys are true south african you will be happy and hope for a better change. BX - bx
