Pathetic 21/04/2008 14:37
It is such an injustice to humanity and democracy. How could one man destroy the lives of innocent peolpe to line his own pocket. This individual should be locked up and put in front of the hague for his actions. Not only has he made his own beloved country sick, he has infected his neighbours.Mbeki has shown his true colours and surrendered his country to the power of greed - concerned |

I have had it with Zimbabwe. They made their bed they must sleep in it. I wish all the europeans, Settlers , What ever our whites are called daily can all pack our bags and go back to europe and leave africa to the mercy of dictators like Mugabe , he is not the first nore the last. I would love to see the picture after few years... - charlie |

Why mediation? 21/04/2008 14:43
Mediation led to peaceful, largely credible elections, job done. The people have spoken, and by all accounts, have hoofed Mad Bob into touch. By rights, there should be NO mediation, there should be action of the highest order, to compel Mad Bob to comply. But NO!!! Turbo / SADC and even the AU don't have the nads to take on Mad Bob. Very sad. Nice writeup. - SkerP |

mbeki protects mugabe 21/04/2008 14:46
because they share the same values and mentality. If Mbeki could he would run south africa just like mugabe is running zimbabwe but unfortunately for him this people of this country will not allow it. mbeki has always been a fool a clown at best and him and mugabe must rot in hell. i see the recount in zimbabwe is flawed due to tampered ballot boxes god save us all. - terence |

No credibility 21/04/2008 14:50

Mbeki's credibility 21/04/2008 14:51
Robert Mugabe did not ruin Mbeki's credibility: Mbeki ruined it all by himself.
I know people will argue it, but Mbeki is truely the worst president south africa has ever had, INCLUDING all previous presidents.
Under his rule, everything just went backwards. At least under the previous regime, things got done: crime was fought and won, hospitals were built, powersupply was constant, and education was of the best in the world.
None of these few mentioned things are true under Mbeki. - Joe |

Lets be honest, 21/04/2008 14:52
Everyone was hoping for a free and fair election that would have ended Mugabe/Zanu PF rule and would be the beginning of a new liberated Zimbabwe where the people could start to rebuild a shattered economy.
In reality, another fixed result where our African leaders say and do nothing.
We are dissapointed but not supprised. It's the African way!

Great article Lucas 21/04/2008 14:55
Well written. It's weird waking up from a dream only to realise you are now in a nightmare.I think the reason they don't lke Morgan is because he is looking more like the african dream than all the others on this continent. He certainly embodies the beliefs and hopes of so many africans and is the man to take africa into the future let alone Zim - psycobabble |

Maybe Mugabe sees what we don't see! 21/04/2008 14:57
Maybe, just maybe Mbeki isn't convinced Morgan is the best replacement for ou Bobbie, maybe there's nothing he can enjoy than telling him to go to hell with sis Grace, just maybe the elders of Africa won't let him. Maybe he want's to see where it will all end- maybe he can try the same tactics next year. That's me!! - THAPELO |

If Thabo Mbeki wants to save one of the many faces he has, i suggest he ENSURE that the arms NEVER reach Harare. The Zim issue in context 21/04/2008 15:02
I think our president has done something at least, and it is up to the people of zimbabwe(MDC&Zanu-PF) to work together for the sake of peace and stability in the country. But then again i think the playing field is not level with regard to the news coverage in the country as the south african and the so called international media seems to be to interested in the MDC's side of the story and in that manner one wonders as to wether the MDC is the only party that carries the aspirations of Zim'ppl. - Phet |

Thabo Mbeki Eish, eish, eish 21/04/2008 15:06
SA will go down in history as the country who stood by and watched is neighbours being killed, pillaged, dying of hunger....and like Nero (nearly) playing his fiddle while Rome burnt, Thabo still has the gall to hold Bob's hand. Sickening and disgusting. I am so ashamed. What are they playing at. They are the joke of the moment. Mugabe's just pure evil. - Alicia |

The truth..... 21/04/2008 15:07
The only reason i can think of for Mbeki's attitude towards Mugabi is that Mad Bob has given Mbeki a couple of farms and mines in Zim. Mbeki's silence is completely self serving and self preserving. He has as much Zim blood on his hands as Mugabe - DONNO |

Thabo is a spineless and useless president. FACT: there IS a crisis in Zim, FACT: there is a crisis in South African politics. FACT: The ANC heirarchy are allowing him to bury himself before he ends his tenure. FACT: Bob is a meglomaniac FACT: Bob drinks his tea from ENGLISH china but he sees "china" and thinks it's made there! FACT: Bob will still be president after the "recount" and FACT: Stuff 'em all, let them stew, it's of their own making!! Viva Africa Viva... NOT!!!! - Gee PMB |

The truth 21/04/2008 15:12
MBeki owns investments in Zim, in the mining sector. He is just protecting his own interests. He also owns diamond concessions in the DRC. Problem is if he publicly critices Mugabe...the truth will be revealed and he is doomed...hence quiet diplomacy. It creates the illusion that he is doing something while at the same time supporting Mad Bob...truly sad :( - TM |

Africa is a failure 21/04/2008 15:12
Africa is indeed a strange place with very strange leaders and customs. Great natural wealth but what an absolute management failure. Time and again they fail. Will they ever learn? Not in the next 100 years imho. SA will go the same way. - George Smith |

Bit off topic but I just have to tell you about this 21/04/2008 15:14
A 'thought leader' on the M&G website posted about how just before the Rwandan genocide there was a small article in the press about a shipment of machetes arriving from China 'to clear the land' with... And now we really know what 'Clearing the land' means. Mbeki do not leave it too late to do the right thing please!! - May |

Bring down Mugabe 21/04/2008 15:21
Does anyone remember how quickly Ian Smith fell once South Africa acted in concert with the rest of the world and imposed sanctions on Rhodesia? And that was when Rhodesia was a functioning economy - albeit an unequal one. How long would it take for South Africa to bring the current Zim basket case to its knees if it simply closed the borders? - jeremy |

Correct, ... 21/04/2008 15:21
Mugabe didn't ruin Mbeki's credibility, Mbeki did it all on his own. The protection of a handful whilst millions are staving and suffering....sounds fimilar. Zuma as president sounds better by the day. - Alvin |

agree with Lithium 21/04/2008 15:21
i also heard Mbeki and Racist Bob are somewhere down the line related through relatives marrying in oeach others families. blood is thicker than water, which shows how weak Thabo's character really is. a good leader is not necessarily a popular one when is comes to reprimanding unethical friends and family.this holds no ground in africa. its called ubunti folks. - mp3's mentor |

Good point Lucas! 21/04/2008 15:22
South Africa does NOT need people like Pik, PW and Mr No Crisis MBeki. What we need in SA is someone (of any colour) who truly manages the country for ALL the peoples (regardless of race) and who will make us proud by being truthfull and honest to himself by calling a crook a crook and a skelm a skelm. SAUnite!! - UKBoertjie |

Mbeki can't oppose Mugabe 21/04/2008 15:22
because it would be tantamount to admitting that another country in Africa has failed without help from the West. Its simple really, if he can pretend everything is fine (no crisis) then Africa has not failed its people. But, by doing this, he only perpetuates the crisis and adds his finger to the trigger that is doing the killing. Bob and TM may still end up at The Hague answering some very uncomfortable questions. - ian |

Go back to the roots 21/04/2008 15:23
I read this weekend that Heidi Holland, author of the book "Dinner with Mugabe", believes that Mugabe might only be pursuaded to negotiate with the British government. She infers that otherwise Uncle Bob is here to stay. A point that seems to be ignored in the whole saga is that the British did not honor their part of the Lancaster agreement. If they had, we might not have the current crisis in Zim. - bokkie |
|
 |
| |
Do not forget the Zimbabweans 21/04/2008 15:24
The Zimbabweans must not wait for Mbeki to help Zim. They are the masters of their destiny. They must rise up if they feel TM has failed them. They need to sort Bob out as soon as possible. I did not hear one Zim org opposing the transportation of arms from China to their country. Not one, why? Zimbabweans wake up and fight for your country just like you did under British rule. - Pasta |

Thabo - Robert 21/04/2008 15:24

Samora Machel Rumours 21/04/2008 15:24

When Leaders Fail. 21/04/2008 15:24
Credibility! If the latest Zim episode has done anything, its clearly defined the lack of credibility and leadership that Mbeki will go down in history for. After all his high level thinking and prophetics about African Renaissance, he hasn't been able to stand up to a known dictator/thief and help an ailing neighbour (people of Zim) in their hour of need and when the region counted on his apparent leadership. He has failed on all accounts. - steven robertson |

Credibility 21/04/2008 15:28

I think by now everybody knows 21/04/2008 15:28
Zim has an illegitimate government, that Mugabe is tampering with the ballot boxes, that Zim is under military rule e.t.c. The sad thing is that TM's actions are giving credibility to the racist views we read here daily. I think i now understand why the ANC delegates choose a morally corrupt man as leader over Mbeki. Sad indeed! - tshepo |

Mbeki is a good leader & an intellectual 21/04/2008 15:28
This is a typical recycled article which provides no insight to the vivid reader. For your information, President Mbeki has good leadership qualities which supersides those of Bush & Brown combined. The problem with you is that you believe in white media, which obviously clouded your judgement. As a word of advice don't believe in everything you read, lost brother. No to Britain colonisation and forget about the "laughing world"= Briatin. - Calvin Mkhize |

Blood is thicker than water 21/04/2008 15:29
I heard some interesting facts : Thabo's sister is married to Mad Bob. Thabo and Mad Bob jointly owns diamond fields in the Congo. Mad Bob owns the majority share. The diamond fields are the reason why South African troops were sent to the Congo to 'keep the peace'. With that in mind, it all makes sense why Thabo thinks all is well in Zim and why he won't speak out against Mad Bob. - Frank II |

Thank you for speaking the truth 21/04/2008 15:29
It is so good to see read an article written by a black South African (I assume from the name) speaking the truth about an African dictator and our lack of leadership in SA. Too often white South Africans when making such comments are branded racists. I have always been the one fighting for Mbeki and supporting his obvious intelligence and leadership acumen, however recently he seems to have lost the nerve to make big decisions! - Nick |

ZimbSA 21/04/2008 15:29
The debacle in Zimbabwe,Mbeki's visit to the country and to make the statement "no crisis" reminds me of 9/11 - both presidents were overawed by the situation and became frozen and lead footed not knowing what to say and least of all what face to show the press. Mbeki will go down in our history as the intelligent idiot that led the country around in the desert for 8 years and achieved nothing of significance to advance the well being of the country. The king that lost his crown and didn't rule - gcr |

Mugabe is a genius 21/04/2008 15:30
An evil genius. He takes good things like the SADC elction guidelines and perverts and abuses them. He has his henchmen beat people but not kill them. He detains helicopter pilots and TV sattelite crews, wrapping them in red tape while disabling his opponents. He is a horrible, perverted evil genius. Zimbabwe will only recover when he and his ilk have slithered off. Trouble is that will take another 28 years! - Alan |

That an embattled politician like Zumi starts looking like a messiah more and more every day that Mbeki holds office. It's actually quite funny. Just for the record.. Mbeki boy, your'e and absolute idiot in a smart suit. You say little and look like you know what you say (but the WORLD know that you're actually stupid) and when you speak you also say nothing. Go quiet diplomacy yourself to Zim, or better yet, go to China, china. - Jannie |

Echo all sentiments - But terence 21/04/2008 15:46
terence You are out of line. Mr Mbeki is still a human being and still the president of South Africa nogal and I don't think it is okay to call him "a fool". Mr Mbeki is more intelligent than we are . If I were Mbeki, I would have intelligently said the same. (I am angry at Mr Mugabe and his cronies in the army and ZEC.) Mr Mbeki does not want to be responsible for precipitating the situation into chaos. Lives will end if he recklessly says things. It's up to Mugabe and Tsvangirai now not Mbeki. - JR |

Thabo Mbeki 21/04/2008 15:48

every dog gets his day 21/04/2008 15:48
The problem in a lot more intense than most people are aware. Mugabe helped the ANC in the days of apartheid and therefore the SA government will always be allies of the Mugabe regime. Once Mugabe loses power of Zimbabwe, he also loses head of state immunity for international human rights abuses (remember what happened to Sudam Hussain?)Hopefully he (Mugabe) will be brought to justice some day! That would be utter victory - Brenda |

WORST LEADER IN HISTORY 21/04/2008 15:49
By far South Africas worst ( Quitest ) leader in History. No problem has ever been solved by keeping quiet and not addressing it. I think...... 21/04/2008 15:51
I don't know if Morgan will be a good president, but lets face it, given a choice anybody would choose Morgan anyday over Mugabe. I think the devil would even be preferable. Has anybody noticed how our own president has become soooo bad that we are welcoming the thought of somebody like Zuma as our future president!!! We sound more and more like Zim everyday. We would rather have a rapist, fraudist, polygamist yes-man as our president than Mbeki!!!

Well!!! 21/04/2008 15:53
When will the people of Africa stand up and say enough is enough? How many more generations have to come and go,b4 the people of this continent realise that their leaders are taking them for a ride and are useless? Its sad that the laughing bit is true, this continent has become a joke in the eyes of the world.Tshepo, after seeing that idiot Mbeki, stand by and deny that there is a crisis in Zim,I am actually glad that Zuma got elected over him. - nWo |

Zim and Mbeki 21/04/2008 15:53
I have always been a supporter of Mbeki. He was a Jan Smuts i.e. a world leader but not recognised in his own country. Now it looks as if Mugabe will be his Achilles Heel. Mugabe will ruin both of them. No legacy for coming generations. Many lost opportunities for greatness! - bennie |

Dear Zimbabwe 21/04/2008 15:57
In light of your failure to even feed anyone in your country besides your power mad dictator, now that the Great British Empire has left you to your own devices, you are hereby notified that, in order to restore bread to your baskets, you will forthwith begin a transition back to becoming a Crown Dependency of Britain, under Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with a British Governor. You will be led to become civilised and prosperous again. Yours Sincerely, Britain - Colonist |

The sad truth for Zim and SA 21/04/2008 15:58

Good Article 21/04/2008 15:58
We should all put our heads together and try figure out what will work for Zim. What can we in SA do to help the people. Quiet deplomacy is not working and obviously neither would an invasion. So how do we get Zanu-pf to step aside and admit defeat? - Rian |

The 'Incredible' Deluded Thabo Mbeki 21/04/2008 16:00
Thabo Mbeki has got zero creditability. In fact he is the laughing stock of the civilized world.
Some say he has symptoms of a mental paraplegia.
He has betrayed Zimbabweans who reject genocide, corruption, kleptomania, and gross human rights abuses.
He with his cohorts Aziz Goolam Pahad and Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma are absolute disgraces to mankind.
Collectively they have Zimbabwean blood on their hands.
Someone needs to find out the REAL roots of the special relationship between these two comrades (Mugabe and Mbeki). When revealed, it will probably defy rational logic.

Point proved 21/04/2008 16:01
Thabo, Mugabe, the SADC and the AU have proved yet again what the rest of the World already knows - Africa is a joke! Bring on JZ so SA can make the final slide into chaos just like Zim. - Erix |

Bokkie !! What do you know about the Lancaster House Agreement ? 21/04/2008 16:03
Look it up at Wikipedia. A fund was set up with money from the UK but Note the following : "While some land was purchased by the fund, few families were resettled. Instead, hundreds of appropraited farms ended up (with) cabinet ministers, senior government officials and wealthy indigenous businessmen. Most British and Americans cut their losses and money, alleging widespread corruption." Uncle Bob will not give up power and will not think about negotiating with Britian - From Zim |

Mbheki syndrome 21/04/2008 16:04
I agree with those who think that Zuma will not do worse than this and this I say in the sense that I have at least heard Zuma saying I am sorry for doing wrong whereas with TM out of all his failures you will hardly hear him saying I am sorry South Africa for the wrong decision I have taken. - Dlathu |

LANCASTER AGREEMENT 21/04/2008 16:04
For those fools still babbling about the suspension of the Lancaster Agreement - Britain did so out of protest because Mugabe was giving land to his cronies instead of the people for whom it was intended-the poor!He had also abandoned the "willing buyer/willing seller" which was core to the agreement and was allowing the "wovits" to occupy farms. Bob also could account for only 17 mill of the 500 mill pounds given by Britain for the project. No doubt all in a foreign bank account!! - johnson |

He an F#^$* Idiot 21/04/2008 16:05
I spoke to the dictator and he assured me there is no crises. All those years the anc lived on Zims hospitality for free actually had a price tag attached. The price, to bend mbeki over a barrel and stick it to him. Payback is a bitch, but hey you voted this poephol in live with it.
And its only going to get worst in SA.

Vivid comments Calvin 21/04/2008 16:06
what exactly are vivid readers, or perhaps you meant lucid? Either way, your comments are once again about as helpful as a Manto in an Aids epidemic. There is no Western plot to do damage to Africa. In fact, they'd like to see us succeed so we can stop asking for handouts. WAKE UP and smell the rot! - ian |

Crisis - What crisis? 21/04/2008 16:09
There is no credibility left in Africa. Any credibility that Africa may have had is gone. Africa can blame no body else except itself for the demise of this continent. All the whites who could do any thing to Africa left Africa 14 to 28 years ago. Africans only have them selves to blame for the demise of Africa. - Gary |

JR - Not ok to call him a fool. 21/04/2008 16:14
Sure, we should be patriotic etc. But I'll use George Bush as an example. He lead his country to Iraq under pretence that there was weapons of Mass Destruction there. There wasn't. We should not blindly follow our leaders everywhere. This is a democracy. We are not mindless drones. If your President screws up. Let him know. If he doesn't want to admit it, kick him in the arse. - Sinudeity |

And what are you doing (besides dreaming)? 21/04/2008 16:14
Lucas, are you & others who call him a lame duck president, question his credibility also not guilty of making Africa a laughing stock. Govt. is bigger than Mbkei-unless of course I'm living under a dictaroship & don't know it! PS Why does the AU support Mbeki? Why doesn't most of Africa seem to support Tsvangari. Maybe get the facts first, before passing judgment. - lekkalik |

Where is the ANC? 21/04/2008 16:18
Can you not veto Mbeki? Your stance surely CANNOT match those of our sleeping President. Bush and Mbeki will go down as the worst Presidents. They both are idiots as well. Just because you cross your fingers, and look contemplatingly into the distance, does not make you a smart man Mr. President. - Sinudeity |
