We want jobs, but not work

These days, people willing to improve themselves, be it at their career or job, be it on their home or car, or even on their person or appearance, they are prone to being either killed, hijacked or raped because of it, and having their possessions stolen in the process.
That is, should the government not tax such a soul to death before the criminals get their sights set on them!
Back in the day, when I started working at the CPA as a youngster, (they were prepared to pay for my studies) I was told by older colleagues to go slowly, and not to work too hard or fast, lest I show them up. No, really, that is a fact.
They would even go so far as to berate me semi-publically amongst a group of them when I was deemed occasionally to have outdone my minimum requirement. I found that I couldn't carry on in that vein, as I became bored. So I worked at a quicker pace and filed my work secretly, while studying at night!
My seniors did notice it though. I was promoted, and my older lazier colleagues stayed behind. They continued to moan about the salary though, and are probably still there today.
Happening again
The same thing is happening in the townships. The Xenophobia sweeping the country is directly attributable to the fact that our South African workers want jobs, not work. They want money, leave, sick leave, coffee and benefits, but they don't want the work that is associated with employment.
So they go on the red T-shirt rampage, toyi-toying and shouting slogans, killing barbarically with flaming tyre and machete those who would earn their bread by the sweat of their brow, be they immigrants or not.
They don't care that should they work hard and understand more about the big picture, they can move on to bigger and better things - which means more money and a better lifestyle.
Incidentally, I know of immigrants from Zimbabwe who are not only trustworthy, but are office-presentable when they arrive for work as a garden worker! A good friend had one ask for work as a "house-boy". When he questioned this man as to what a "house-boy" would do, he said "everything".
Insult to injury
And that is just what he does do! From the garden to the house - beautifully. He is so trustworthy that 5 years on, he now even has his own house keys. This erstwhile fellow is paid well today, but lives in fear of his life should the red-eyed, fire starting masses find him out though?
To add insult to injury, the immigrants' possessions are then stolen by the murdering insane mob. Shops are plundered, and innocents are set upon.
It's insane that we're being directly or indirectly ruled by a bunch of incompetent, barbaric, murderous, louts who are prepared to shout and burn all in the name of entitlement, whether they're in govt, the ANCYL, or just a member of the chanting masses.
We need the death penalty, Mr Mbeki or Mr Zuma, or whoever calls the shots. Our people understand that kind of language. It is all that we can do to ensure the safety of all our people, including our visitors.
