colinial imperialists.... 30/06/2008 08:32
When the western imperialists involve themselves in the African agenda then that is always the results, the European interferences in the affairs of Africans is highly acceptable, the western colonial imperialists believe that they should control and own the African agenda as if we are this slaves, the dictation of choice of leaders for the African people when the west involve themselves is cleared influencing the peace and harboring the majority of the unrest in this continent, all of the African dictatorship were born as a direct result of the colonial struggle which seeks to enslave the sons of the African continent, why and why cant the colonialists leave Africans?african the land of birth? - Kolobe |

Yet Mugabe won by 80%.. 30/06/2008 08:37
Which Zimbabwean in his/her right mind casted a vote for this Moron..?It is the people of Zimbabwe who had made sure that the tyrant remains in power.I've seen thousands of Zimbos rallying behind Mugabe in his famouse "Left Fist" adresses & they did not look as oppressed as we thought they were! The MDC was not stupid to withdraw from race cuz they knew that the Zanu-PF support was just too hot to handle.Despite the intimidation & violence, the Zimbabweans have spoken. - Les-Maada |

Dear President... 30/06/2008 08:43
Thank you dear President Mbeki, for showing all South Africans, that our country is also ruled by despots and the power hungry elite, since we are the only country on the entire planet to side with Bob the Builder of Misery. You have sent us all a very powerful message, that the many friends we lost in the struggle - have died in vain. - Theki Mtish |

we should be ashamed 30/06/2008 08:44
We as South Africans should be ashamed, because this happened on our watch. We are the most powerful nation on the African continent, yet we have let this dictator ruin a whole economy and displace millions of people right on our front doorstep. Although I acknowledge that our president has done a lot behind the scenes, the fact is that in the end he failed us and the people of our region. It also proved the incompetence of the African Union. It truly is a sad day. - konstabel |

DEGREES IN VIOLENCE 30/06/2008 08:47
I think I have come up with a plausible reason for the mind set of Robert Gabriel. Brought up in the R. Catholic traditions at a mission school where canings and beatings were profound by a bunch of baby fiddling psycho's. These perps AKA "teachers" were sent to Africa where their deeds went un-noticed and unpunished. No wonder where R.G. learned to hate the white man and used the intricate intimidation tactics thereafter. I am familiar with RC schools methods. I was at one in Zim years ago. - Nguruve the Bushpig |

Democracy not for africa 30/06/2008 08:54
Bob has once again shown the world that AFRICA does not deserve the 21st century and that democracy does not fit in africa. Democracy for Africa is a barrel of a gun + intimidation. I feel sad that once again, our impotent leaders, are so afraid to speak their minds. Its not the people of africa who are cowards, its our current leaders - Nick |

|
 |

@ Kolobe 30/06/2008 08:57
You are really dumb and ignorant at times. Mugabe and his forces caused the dictatorship in Zim - not any western force. The original western nominee for president was BISHOP ABEL MUZOREWA. Why did we accept western sanctions to speed up freedeom and transition in SA if it is so unacceptable? Until Africa provides an African solution to an African problem, the Africans must accept all the outside assistance as they can get. - Filemon |

Well is this not a surprise, bob goes from looser to outright winner in just one month.
I must just add that these colonial, imperialistic, slave owning whitey's must now stop complaining, what did they ever bring to this continent, except, roads, rail, electricity, running water, schools, colleges universities, hospitals, democracy, freedom of speech, human rights, industries, mines what did they give us? nothing. - Craig |

I know you are underlining the irony that is Bobs victory 30/06/2008 09:08
but somehow it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because its so true and yet nothing was done about it, nor will anything happen in future. Its like watching a movie about a dictator like Stalin or Hitler and knowing that true to history, the story needs to unfold and that destruction will follow, no matter what. Why do we never learn from the past?Is it worth it to wait until it is too late? Our present leaders are as lame as those before them and those that come after them. - M |

kolobe 30/06/2008 09:09
Kolobe, listen carefully. You point to past injustices to justify current ones. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE SIDES. I think you jump to the defence of any black man simply because you feel stung by the criticism levelled against him because you are black too. Africa has wonderful potential. But black people need to stop defending the indefensible and taking sides just because of skin color. Hacking off someone's limbs is wrong, whether the year is 1808 or 2008. Colonialism was wrong. But so is Mugabe! - wit koos |

Satire of note 30/06/2008 09:09
A good read from you Lucas, feel free to contribute regularly as it's a tonic. As for Les-Maada, you might want to read up the definition of propagoose and propaganda, if one hit you in the face you may not know which. Well done........ Kolobe - WHATEVER!! 30/06/2008 09:20
Well written article Lucas. It was great to read and very much true. It is sad but things was never going to different in Zimbabwe. I do agree that if Mugabe won by 80% a large portion of those voters was still valid. If at leas 20 - 30% was. It must be millions that still voted for him. And they should then take responsibilty for those votes and suffer.

Well written.Everyone is having a go at Mbeki.I agree he should have said more but at the end of the day words mean little. What else could/can he do? Invade Zim? its nothing new but... 30/06/2008 09:23
all I want to know is when africa, especially ethnic africans, will stand up and so no to whats going on.
I am not saying that no ethnic africans stand up and say no but it just seems to me that to be against Mugabe is to be with the westerners.
I dont think that the west is right in the majority of its ways, but at the very least the advice on this particular subject is correct.
I wish there was less pressure on the ethnic majority to conform to the thinking of minority decision makers..... - craig |

Another self made African tragedy 30/06/2008 09:25
My heart sank as I witnessed the injustice of it all in Zim. I could not watch when Mugabe was sworn in, what a sham.
Another sad chapter of African politics is continuing and the continent's leaders are relaxing. Till when will Africa be in a shameful state of this nature? Dark continent indeed this.

Sad but true 30/06/2008 09:25
All the rantings from certain members of the ANC & ANCYL, are starting to uncover the deep sentiments of our own country. I dread witnessing what happens in South Africa as soon as it one day becomes evident that another party may look like they will unseat the ANC. As much as I would pray it wouldn't happem, I strongly suspect we will see a very similar, but more frightening aspect than Zimbabwe. - Malcolm X |

@Zanoids 30/06/2008 09:28
For all those who are pro-mugabe: All your talk of anti-imperialism is at odds with your claim for love of the african peoples. On the one hand you want to get rid of every last vestige of the colonial days and support guys like Mugabe who are hell-bent to do so, claiming that it is the best thing for africa and its people. On the other, you seem content to let the people be abused, raped, tortured and killed by politically-motivated starvation and denial of medication. Ideology above survival??? - Azi |

What amazes me is that Mbeki (the colourless pygmy) still prances around telling everyone about the ?African Renaissance? and KNEEPAD and then backs Bob. The ?African Renaissance? is more like a step back into the ?Stone Age? .Why would anyone want to invest in Africa ????
Mandela?s silence is also deafening ; he could have said more at his 90th birthday bash.He has the influence and stature to do so .

Doing our job for us 30/06/2008 09:36
I am not able to properly rationalise about the sovereignty of the nation to our north, but what I do understand is that it has been hijacked by a thief and murderer. The rhetoric about western colonial imperialists interfering with Africa is absurd. I believe they will eventually have to take action where we, by our inaction have failed our fellow African citizens. - Mark |

Clearly we are not happy with Robert Mugabe, yet the inferences of the western masters is perpetuating the violence and hindering progress in Zim, their continued gullible spewing of insults towards the monster in Mugabe is doing the mediation efforts difficult for president Mbeki, how can Mbeki solve a crisis when the fans(Britain and USA) and onlookers(UN) are fuelling the hatred and insulting the other party. - Kolobe |

Funny how in the first round of voting it took them MONTHS to count the votes, will for the 'runoff' eleections it took them 2 days. Then again, in a vote where there is one man on the ballet, it makes sense. Funny how he only got 85% of the votes. Someone should shoot that man. - Sinudeity |

This beyond a joke. I'm not referring to the African dictator. I'm referring to the rest of the world (SA included) that condemn, chastise, berate, etc etc. All useless and meaningless to the African dictator. We need physical intervention: i.e. UN forces, US forces, military coups, invasions etc. You need to fight fire with fire. Otherwise, his own people must stand up. this is not about dialogue, it won't work. Zim needs war, otherwise it will wallow in it's own filth untill kingdom come. - Krantz |

Good article there Lucas? But how is your letter going to help the situation in Zimbabwe or you are just after the R1000 for the most read letter in News24? Ag please get really! Zim people need solution not letters which have no direct affect to their situation. Is Morgan of the MDC an answer to the Zim people's situation? I don't think so! The man is a coward he betrayed his people. This time Mugane didn't steal election but it was given to him with a silver plate by the MDC leader. - Vic |

You really have no heart at all. You do realize that they basically had no choice. I bet if you were voting with a gun against your head you will also vote ANC. - Anon |

Kolobe & Co. part 1 30/06/2008 10:24
It is with great sadness that I read your comments, as you can not see the utter shambles this beautiful continent, that I call home, is in. leave it to africans... yes, agree, but they generally do not have the power to help themselves, unless it is to the detriment of others around them. A simple issue of land reform; taking experienced commercial farmers off their land and replacing them with "farmers" who are subsistence farmes, and we wonder why we have a food crises??!! See my brother... - Hobbs |

Kolobe - Lancaster Agreement 30/06/2008 10:26
How stupid can you be? Please stop embarressing yourself. You have a mentality of a brick. The Lancaster Agreement has been explained to you before, but you just dont seem to have the capability to understand it. Africans have to take responsibility for their own actions. Stop giving the West so much power over Africa. - dhv |

Kolobe & Co. Part 2 30/06/2008 10:27
The West has already made the mistakes, thousands of years ago, we are still learning. Learership and teachers are what we need, people to listen, understand and implement! Do you think that Bob could listen? doubt it, he is nothing but a naughty school bully, who you can not rely on anything for, except chaos! - Hobbs |

If I met you in the street, I would end you. I dont think you realise the damage you cause, exactly who do you think your comments help? We are a nation crying out for leadership, so if you are not with us, we will be happy to revoke your SA citizenship, and you can get lost forever. - ramone |

Bob 30/06/2008 10:39
Your comments are great. I loved the satire. Sad that the problem is so real.
Kolobe you are a rabid racist. Bob made this problem and he will eventually pay for it dearly.
Leave the democracies out of it. - Malcolm |

Lucas & Kolobe 30/06/2008 10:41
Lucas - I wish you could become a political advisor. Bravo! Kolobe, wake up and smell Africa burning... If we all keep on blaming the past there will never be solutions for the future. Nobody would have worried about Zim if innocent people were not suffering under a brutal regime...Would |
