After a week in hell, in terms of criticism and negative comments, I believe that Peter de Villiers answered his detractors in the best way possible. For all those who doubted de Villiers' pedigree as a coach, I hope this recent win, the first by a South African coach in Carisbrook, New Zealand, will prove to all who still think that he is just a quota and get the support that he rightfully deserves. Not only did he beat New Zealand at home, but he did it making history in the process.

An ardent sports fan, I understand and expect condemnation every time our sports teams don't do well. I also expected it last week when we lost in Wellington. What I thought was a bit unfair was how everybody brought out the whole race card to prove that the reason that we lost was because we has the wrong man in charge.

Even though he has more experience than Jake White when he started his Springbok career, people just had to use the fact that he was black as the reason we lost that match. Forgetting that we were after all playing in New Zealand, a place where our accomplished White had never won either.

With this recent performance, I hope that it will silence the cynics, especially those who base their argument on the fact that he happens to be black and regarded as a muppet/puppet and not a real coach. To these people I would like to say to them, that as pessimistic as they may be, so far he is one up on his predecessor as he has done what White had failed to do in his entire career.

    Enjoy it

The feeling of winning this critical test match feels great for many and I'm sure especially for the Springbok coach. Sadly, I am sure that he will not be allowed to enjoy this win for what it is worth. Like many fans, already I am sure more people are putting even more expectations on him.

As we speak, there must be those who are already saying, Ok, now that he has won this match, lets see if he can win the Tri-Nations", better yet "Let's see if he can emulate White and win the World Cup as well".

Sad as this may be, I am sure he expected this himself as he is taking over from a World Cup winning coach. Any coach who had been in a similar position would have similar expectations as well. Unfortunately, it seems that the coach will be crucified if he loses anything else in future. It is very hard at the top. Especially when you are doing all that you can to succeed, whilst everybody around you is wishing and anticipating your downfall.

As lonely as it is in that hot coaching seat, de Villiers should take solace in the fact that all those who support South African rugby regardless of who is in charge will continue to give him our unwavering support despite any challenges he may face. I have faith in him as a coach and believe in his coaching abilities.

De Villiers should be proud of his achievement. As short-lived as it may be, he has still done more than many people had given him credit for. I still hope for a time where we can all be measured purely on merit. The same merit we afford people like Habana regardless of what their race is.

The fact that he is a black coach is a moot point. We can complain all we want, but we have to accept that he is the currently appointed Bokke coach. All we can do is give him all the support we can, and hope that he can bring more glory to South African rugby. If whinging is all we can do right now, then I suggest we keep quiet until the man has been given time to prove himself.

You said everything I wanted to say this morning... Thanks - Caffeine

      Agreed
    14/07/2008 08:21
Personally I don't care if the coach if white, black pink or peach? WTF, as long as we bloody win? I cannot begin to tell you how loud I was yelling when Ricki scored! So to all the critics out there... IT'S STILL JUST A GAME!!! Enjoy it for what it is! BOKKE RULE! - Francois

      Thank you
    14/07/2008 08:21
I commented to a colleague of mine yesterday that DIV has now surpassed many SA coaches for doing what many could only dream of. His response was typical. He does not rate DIV, because there are many experienced players in the team. So, I suggested then that White should not get credit as these experienced players were also there in last year's world cup. We never discussed rugby again. - Len van Heerden

      10 out of 10
    14/07/2008 08:22
Well done to the boys down under! I do PDV was treated harshly last week, but it is not for the colour of his skin, but for a shambles of a team he put on the feild... this week however, he got the mix right!! perfect, well almost... but just a word of caution, don't use the "wet weather team" excuse, just tell us like it is... you got it wrong last week, players did not fulfill their role! Well done guys, bring on the OZZIES! - Hobbs

      Excellent
    14/07/2008 08:23
Hopefully we can all forget about the politics now and just enjoy the rugby. Well Done Bokke - greggo

      Bok victory
    14/07/2008 08:23
Well like I said on Friday that all the negative vibe about the bok team, were are all the big mouths now....GO BOKS GO!!!! Ricky you beauty - Sportsfan

      Ditto
    14/07/2008 08:25
Well written article. I agree 100%. I can even go further by saying that all the doomsayers wil find even more absurd excuses to this fabtastic win. Let us not forget that apart from the result, this was a wonderful testament to high quality rugby played between the fiercest rivalry in world rugby. Well done booke, and Pieter De Villiers - Travis

      Hail the Victors
    14/07/2008 08:26
Yes indeed what a win for the Boks and congrats to everyone who had a hand in that. No doubt many are eating crow this morning. It was a tight game in a hostile environment, so well done again. The fact that so many of the rugby loving public took umbrage with was that Snor himself immediately went for the race card when criticised by an ex-All Black. That defintley did not win him any fans. Hopefully he's learnt from the experience and keep a dignified and respectful stance. Cowboys don't cry! - Balbyter

      One Swallow ...
    14/07/2008 08:27
"One swallow does not a summer make, neither does one fine day".(Aristotle,384-322 BC).

It's AWESOME that the Boks nailed NZ @ House of Pain! Really!

But before we make this De Villier's "victory" - let's see a few more.He was appointed under a cloud-not good.Aside from an irritating "Essop Pahad-like" whine-voice,let's give him a chance. But don't slap Pete on a pedestal for ONE awesome victory.Nor shoot him down for a loss.

Just a note that we need to be calm in response! - Cynicus

      Thank you Ndumiso
    14/07/2008 08:28
My sentiments exactly! However, PDV can win as much as he can, he'll never be accepted. Certain people seem to think that rugby belongs to them alone. They see it as the last thing they have that this new iligitimate government cannot touch. None-the-less, it's a Monday morning, i want to remain positive. Maybe these guys will prove me wrong as PDV proved them wrong! - Fraud

      Load of rubbsih
    14/07/2008 08:30
If someone starts off by saying "I am nor racist" or "it does not matter the race...." then you must know for a fact that this person holds these things in high esteem. Otherwise, why even mention them when they do not matter? Well done PDV and your team. - Lvh

      Hail PDV!!
    14/07/2008 08:32
i just wonder what the doomsayers are going to say this monday, who is the puppet/muppet now?Thank you for silencing the critics, atleast for Now, because i know they won't give up. - Bokammoso

That is how it is done - VIVA PDV
    14/07/2008 08:34
What is the response from the prophets of doom and gloom, I told you that PDV will win in NZ and he did it this weekend - yes it is a good feeling being right. Not JAKE WHITE or any of his predecessors have ever won in the House of Pain but PDV turned it into the House of SHAME for the Blacks and to all the unfair critics. PDV have already achieved more than Jake White as this victory is 10times better for me than the WC win last year. VIVA PDV I will always believe in you and you will always have my support as I know you are a quality coach and have proven it of Saturday - colin

      CONGRATS...
    14/07/2008 08:34
I have to say it totally dissapointed me last week when some white south africans was so negative about SA rugby, fair enough there are some pressing issues, but common guys...!!! Give PdV a change, he has done well and I will support the Springboks, white or black coach, it is not the point, it is SA rugby. My centement as well, I hope the black south africans gloat on this one, you guys truly deserve it. From a whitey...!!! WELL DONE!!!! - Willie

      Hear hear!!!
    14/07/2008 08:37
I've also been frustrated at the lack of support to a coach who comes with the same credentials as Jake White when he was appointed 5 years ago! However, I salute the entire Bok team, coaching staff and management for a performance - the best of recent years! Yes, even better than the World Cup! To all the doomsayers - Peter de Villiers has done what Jake White never could - Beat New Zealand in New Zealand - Enough Said!! - Johann

Race is a pain in the A....
    14/07/2008 08:41
I am so proud of the boks for their win, I cant even explain it in words its been a long time that us as South Africans have been waiting for that away win. Well done boys. Lets beat 7 different shades if SH1T out the Aussies on the weekend. Can we have a non racial based article on the rugby first thing on Monday morning after we beat the Aussies. PLEASE You guys are beating a dead and decayed horse over and over and the monotony is nauseating to say the least. We just won in NZ and some idiot must come and open a festering wound. We all wish politics and race was left out of sport so can we please leave those two topics out of sports related articles. IT IS TIRED. - Gary Clark

      Well done to you guys!
    14/07/2008 08:46
Well done to the Springboks! They deserve all the praise they can get after that awesome win against NZ. After all, they have to take everyone's flack when they don't make it... P. de Villiers, I take my hat off to you... You are the first coach that took SA to victory on Dunedin... - SA Supporter

      Well done!
    14/07/2008 08:46
I said the exact same thing after the game Len van Heerden, I said to everyone that PDV had achieved more than Jake White in tenure and I recieved quick comments that said the All Black side was not the best that was available. Utter bollocks! To say the All Blacks on home soil were not the best, especially at the House of Pain is ludicrous. The Boks got it right and the mix was great, we never gave in and the defence was solid! Congratulations!!! - Glenn

      Well done to you guys!

I agree 100%. A well deserved win. Not forgetting this victory anytime son. Well done Bokke, well done PDV! - Casey Lourens

      Just Lucky?
    14/07/2008 08:47
Ja, already some of the old farts ares saying we were just lucky. Maybe we were - luck plays a huge role in sport - always has. Somedays the ball just don't jump right and some days it does. Sport success is after all about training, skill and luck. Well done Bokke and keep it up! - TB

      well done.
    14/07/2008 08:48
We played well, i don't mind the coach i agree that he is very good. If he is better then Jake white we must still see as he is far from that still. I think the only problem is that before the test matched DEV always seems to say the stupidest things. But well done to everyone - stinkbug

      Where are the naysayers now?
    14/07/2008 08:49
Reading local papers yesterday, you'd swear Jake was still in charge of the team, with talk of "his game plan" and "his players". No credit was given to PDV, yet when we lost it was soley his fault, not the players. Strange. Well done Peter, lets hope we can perform better this week, completely smash Australia. - marcel

      BOKKE!!!
    14/07/2008 08:50
I dont think many people realise how lucky we are. SA has never beaten the All blacks in New Zealand for over 50 years. we got to see it! Well done to the team and well done to Pieter De Villiers! those games go down in the anals of history and people will be talking about it in 100 years time. thanks for making history. GO BOKKE!!!! - craig

why are we not giving the players credit here
    14/07/2008 08:50
Fair enough the coach PDV managed a win in new zealand all be it a lucky win due to a lucky play by ricky but enough about PDV. The players deserve more credit than PDV i think they are the ones that won the match at the end not PDV and they deserve some credit here. at the end it all comes down to the players on the pitch not the coaches on the side...whena!!! - mandoza

      @Len van Heerden
    14/07/2008 08:50
Remember something, this is in essence the team that Jake built (most experienced Bok team ever in the Final last year thanks to Jake's consistent selections),if you knew your rugby you would know that.Congratulations to PDV & the Boks.I quite frankly couldn't care who plays for or coaches them,as long as they do their best in every match (I still think that Jake deserved a bit better than the treatment he got though). - The Truth

      Great win...
    14/07/2008 08:53
but, but seriously, can we now get past this race crap. We all want to win, so can we please support the coach and team, or shut up. Seriously, its 2008, and people are still talking about the whites this and blacks that. This is a great opertunity to unite behind something, lets use it! - Sceptic

      Well done
    14/07/2008 08:53
Thanks MR De Villiers for making us happy over the past weekend. Hope that all South Africans have learnt a lesson, lets all support our BOYs and their management. Have u ever heard of a New Zealander in favour of the BOKS?....no - Xman

      Agree
    14/07/2008 08:55
However, it was not the general public, but Mr Hoskins who started the trouble by saying that Div's appointment was made with transformation in consideration. This automatically led public opinion to understand that he was not the best selection for the job. As you yourself say, we want the best for the job - no mater what color. If selected on transformation grounds - then obviously he will have to prove himself-if not he would be welcomed by all. Well done on Saturday's result - Viva Bokke - Tut Tut

Stop Rubbing it !! - Watch the Sport!!
    14/07/2008 08:55
I am very happy with the win.Very proud of our counrties team and will not listen or worry about the political driving comments focusing on how PDV went out there and silenced us all.He made errors in judgment last weekend and stupid comments after that!I am glad the springboks are now on track. If he does it again.People will mention it regardless of who he is!So just watch the bloody sport. - Jaco

      Coaches
    14/07/2008 08:55
get too much condemnation when they lose and too much credit when they win. Amazing what the bounce of a ball can do for someone's fortunes. Inevitably it comes down to the players and the rub of the green. But well done to the Boks and coaching staff! Made my weekend!!! - AJ

      Well said mate
    14/07/2008 08:56
Your inglish is also on point all those negative peops out there won't even be able to point out mistakes that they usually ready to point out foaming in the mouth and gnashing their teeth like they were waiting on Saturday. Well done DiV. - Mendoza

      All blacks
    14/07/2008 08:58
At least our boys can take the All Blacks off that pedestal they have had them on for so long. Hopefully we can expect a few more close encounters and our share of wins now, with our heads in the right place. - AJ

      All Hail PdV
    14/07/2008 08:59
Ntate Khoza, you have made my monday!!! Where are all the Prophets of DOOM?? They must have had a torrid weekend!!! To all the true Bok Supporters, well done guys. And everyone else, you owe PdV an apology, atleast have the guts to apologise publicly (on NEWS24) - shabir ... the shake master

      Follow through
    14/07/2008 08:59
I hope he can follow through, remember the good old days of the Cheethas and Rassie. Now Rassie is gone and you can see Naka is not keeping up as coach as the Cheethas are slowing down now. The team Pieter played is the same team Jake would have played. - Kierie

      Expectations
    14/07/2008 09:01
I have faith in De Villiers. I am a white male huge bokke supporter. When we do criticize de villiers its not cause he is black its because we have a winning culture and anything less then winning is not good enough. How many white coaches has been sacked not because they are white cause they did not win test matched. I fully support De Villiers while he is winning I just dont understand why Adrian is in the team I think we have better Centers... Being ok is not goog enough in springbok colors. - spazman

      Well done Bokke....!
    14/07/2008 09:01
And by bokke I mean ALL the bokke,...not just the whites or coloureds or blacks! Geeze we are proud of them all. PdV brought self the race issue into the spotlight,..Not the south africans. So stop pointing fingers at your white south african citizens. I for one and a lot of other south africans was behind Peter from the start. Well done again to the WHOLE coaching staff and that includes Dick and Gary but especially Peter. It's clear Peter is a passionate rugby guy in every sense of the word. - Morne

      Well done Bokke...
    14/07/2008 09:02
I'm truely proud of PdV and the greatest sports team in the history of our country, the Springboks. During these tough times the Boks are the one shinning light. All of us must look at this multi-racial team as a beacon of light. Well done boys...i am proud of you. - KeithP

      GREAT TEAM EFFORT
    14/07/2008 09:04
When a team losses,we bash the coach. When they win, we praise the players. That's the sad reality of sports. But let's go against that and congratulate P De VILLIERS, the WHOLE TEAM (especially the 14 men who remained on the pitch) as well as the star of the day Ricky Januarie. The pessimists will never run out of things to say but we will move on and support the BOKS...come what may. We are the World Champions!!! - Jmafia

Well done & I am proud of Bokkies
    14/07/2008 09:05
First time when i heard PDV become coach i alway thought bok will lost all time but i am WRONG! Now i believe in PDV and Bok, Viva Boks. Let win again in 2011 world cup. - Didier

      Yay for rugby
    14/07/2008 09:06
When are we South Africans - both Black and White - going to grow up and forget the frigging race thing? We all want South Africa to win. The New Zealanders use plenty of 'islanders' - that's why their team is so strong. Let's keep developing youngsters of all colours who have talent. Then put people into top teams who have the ability. Let's forget this damned stupid race thing and become regular winners so we can ALL rejoice a lot more. - Doug

      To Ndumiso
    14/07/2008 09:06
Please get someone to fill up the chip on your shoulder. I am a white afrikaans male and at the post match braai last weekend, no-one complained that we lost the game because of the fact that PDV is black, it was because he made incorrect rugby decisions regarding selections etc. We have all accepted that there is no colour, but the best man should get the job (coach or player). Please stop generalising and assume everybody is against PDV because he is black. Get over it...... - Zorro

possible kings of the rugby world
    14/07/2008 09:07
If we can win this year's tri-nations series, we will undoubtedly be the most powerful rugby nation on the planet. This, despite all the efforts of the doomsayers to discredit South African rugby. Bokke forever! - konstabel

      @Cynicus,good points there
    14/07/2008 09:08
I think you meant Aziz Pahad (with the chipmunk voice). It was good to see the more structured approach and rush defence (both Jake White's creations) put to good use on Saturday, instead of just madly trying to run the ball from behind our own 22 like last Saturday. The ELV's work just fine if one makes intelligent use of them.(And Ndumiso, according to Mike Stofile and several others,he's not black enough,so who are the real racists now?) - The Truth

      @Ndumiso
    14/07/2008 09:08
Great article. Hopefully all PDV's crictics will now be silenced.Leave the man alone and let him coach the boks.Don't criticise him cos of his colour or the way he speaks. All the previous so called 'advantaged coaches' were no english professors either.Well done Pieter de Villiers. - Feroz

      The last 10 minutes
    14/07/2008 09:10
felt like an eternity. After victor went off i feared for the worst but when enrico went through got the ball and put it over i was on my feet and after that i couldnt sit still. i didnt even want to watch the kick of steyn, his first and only kick of the game and what an important one that was. Well done to all of them the coaching staff the players and to all the supporters enjoy it and may there be plenty more to come!!! GO BOKKE!!!!!!!!!!!!! - W

      The critics
    14/07/2008 09:12
His critics won't be silenced because, it's really about his race not his performance. They are already looking for something else and they will find it. - Godfrey

      What ever
    14/07/2008 09:12
Praise the man for 1 victory, what a load of crap.1 match doesnt win the cup.Just like u said, first win the try nations then we can talk. What history did he make, the bokke won the AB in NZ,just many years ago in the house of pain, get ur facts straight plz.The AB took the game as a walk in the park, thats why they lost, wont happen again. - Pierre

      Bul-Bokke
    14/07/2008 09:12
DIV, Twakkie, whatever you want to call him has the kudos and well deserved they are. From now on its MISTER DIV, MISTER Twakkie etc. Go Bokke. - Bokfan

      PDV
    14/07/2008 09:15
Well done to the Boks! I still think there were better candidates for the Coach job - but nonetheless, he was chosen - let him be. - cvz

      Humble pie
    14/07/2008 09:15
There's a number of US eating humble pie this morning... Well done Div, well done Bokke, Ricky you beauty! - John Camp

      Bok win
    14/07/2008 09:16
Enough said above. Well done PdV you deserve credit for what you achieved with the Boks - NOT ONE of your predecessors did it! As for Jake White - did ANYONE read his book? If you did you will realise what a total moaner and graoner he was - always played the "victim". No mate, White wasn't that great a Couch, even with the World Cup win? Besides would we have won the RWC if we played New Zealand last year? I don't think so. - UrBaN

It will soon come to pass
    14/07/2008 09:20
PDV may have turned the house of pain into a house of shame. Wait until he loses another game. He himself will be turned into the real puppet he is. Some people are still not convinced. Viva mabhokobhoko Viva ! - Concerned

      Well Done
    14/07/2008 09:24
Its amazing how people start tosay its the players, it was the very same players who lost last weekend. If you critisise, critisise th whole the whole team and congratulate the whole team.White is gone and now is PDV time and he did well during the weekend he need to be congratulated.like it or not WHITE IS NO MORE. - Ele

      PDV
    14/07/2008 09:26
a good coach learns from his mistakes and i believe PDV has learnt from what went wrong last week and fixed all the problem areas.what a match, what a moment what a day, proud to be wearing my bok jersey to work today, to all South african AB fans - IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!!!!! - Terence smith

      Well done COACH!!!
    14/07/2008 09:27
Hey Guys, us white folks always make a thing about it if a guy is a bit off colour, let's get serious, Div is one of the best coaches in world rugby, he has won world championships before were others have failed. Man is Man , it doesnt matter the colour of his skin. Mujati is an excellent prop, Ricky a great scrummy, Habana the best wing in worldrugby, same as Victor,Schalk and the like....Wake up.....Us whites dont own the world and all in it! - Riaan

    14/07/2008 09:29
Funny how the only idiots concerned with PDV skin colour is black people.I am proud of the team and happy about the win. When incompetent PDV makes his stupid coments again. We will point it out.Regardless of his skin colour.Lucky for him he won't.Because he has a management staff to cover his ass. - Jaco

      The truth
    14/07/2008 09:31
Jake White did not give birth to the players that won the world cup. some other coach is responsible for getting the best of their skills out. So, White sinmply put together a bunch of good young man, same thing PDV is doing. It is only 4 out of 5 wins. The first loss received the predictable crap about political appointments. Am enjoying to see so many squirm - Len van Heerden

      Well Done Div!!
    14/07/2008 09:32
Marcel good comment... SHAME to the media for creating the negative impression that it's White's plan and "Players"...but why the hell couldn?t he win in the ALL Blacks in NZ??... but that?s how it is with the Media in SA. They?re masters in spreading negative news and incriminating people. No wonder most of you are so negative. Maybe it's time for the journalists out there to spread some positive news, give credit and start apologising for the CRAP they are writing. But thanks for a very good article. Now lets what?s rugby and stop spreading the doom...GO do what you are good at, YOUR WORK!! - Mock

      hahaaa
    14/07/2008 09:32
de Villiers, i have to admit it too that he is not number one coach for SA but not because of his skin colour, its funny how things work out that the so called " not fit to coach to he boks" is the one who leads them to Victory for the first time in "Carisbrook" wonder whats all the racist hard knocks are now, probably with thier tails between thier trotters hail bokke hail de viliers - morena

Well, life is about achievements. Even if PDV never win a game again, he can be the only South African coach in 87 years to beat New Zealand in the House of Pains. Nothing will ever take that away from him. Racist excuses will really not help the pathetic naysayers. Odd that one defeat, we have experts who not only know what selections PDV should have made, but how to speak in public. Thank you, Ricky - L

Well done to the bokke ,,,!
    14/07/2008 09:34
But lets get one thing strait , It was very close , But we won well done, But am I missing somthing here was PDV alone on the field on saturday or was the players there as well ? - charlie

      Bokke
    14/07/2008 09:34
I am very happy for our "puppet" and the bokke as a whole. GUYS keep up the good work and hopefully, this could rub to other sporting codes such as "Bafana Bafana" at some stage e.g. 1995 Rguby and 1996 Bafana. That's my wish - Tomas

      Go Bokke
    14/07/2008 09:40
I like the comments posted by you guys and today I am the happiest man ever. It means there's a lot we can learn from each other and stand together as a rainbow nation. Lets take this positive energy to the next game in Australia. Despite what happens there, lets rally beind our boys. I don't care who the coach is black or white, I will forever support the boks. I'm young black and don't need to see a black person playing to support them. PDV and Bokke are going kick some ass down under! - general

Can you count? As far as I know, PDV has won 4 matches out of 5. One and four are totally different numbers. I know counting might not be your strongest suite, but try it one day. Remember, even if this was the first win, it is still better than White or the previous lot - Yipee

      PDV
    14/07/2008 09:42
Good victory for the Boks. Well done PDV AS well as Gary Gold and Dick Muir AND ALL the backroom staff. Let us not forget them. My gripe with PDV is not skin colour but the best for the position. Our best coach is still leaving to go coach the snivelling Poms. Ndumiso, my mate, before you compare Pieter and Jake's CV's get your facts striaght. Jake has an Everest worth of experience and Pieter is Aconcagua. Bring on the winging Aussies. - Jawellnofine

      Hail de Villiers!!
    14/07/2008 09:42
Youve got it spot on Ndumisoi.Your reamrk,"Even though Div has more experience than Jake White when he started his Springbok career",dont worry its only the verkramptes that doesnt want to understand, not they they cant, but they refused to acknowledge it.I do however, differ with your choice of word by using "cynics", you should say it as it is and not be tactful about it,this win has silenced the racists in this country & all over the world. Hail de Villiers!! - Sham

    14/07/2008 09:44
I am super happy with our win in NZ and proud of the guys but still think DIV is not the best coach in the country and only got the job because he is coloured. We played the weakest NZ team in prob 10yrs and we did not take our best front row, made some suspect choices and Pietersen had a terrible game but because he catches a ball and falls over the line he is good? NO! will support our boys no matter what, but lets not get ahead of ourselves with DIV - he inherited a world cup team. - Juan

Ta matie, ta matie, Boeeeeere Wors
    14/07/2008 09:44
We did it. And So'oialo had the cheek to say "lucky bounce". Peter Helium - well done! Hoskins caused the controversy around his selection but he has a great record as a coach and deserves our support. - Filemon

      Yet another spectacular display
    14/07/2008 09:45
Congrats PDV and the boys, you have done us proud. Good news from most angles except politics as usual. They are going to replace efficient people with highly corrupt individuals to make sure there is no money at all for the poor of this land. - Wawa

    14/07/2008 09:45
De Villiers was the best man for the coaching job because he had international experience and Meyer did not have the experience DeV had. Furthermore, if one looks at Jake Whites credentials when he bacame Bok Coach and the credentials of DEV, DEV by far has better credentials. So please look at facts before you open your pie whole. Now as it stands DEV managed to bring out the best in 15 players and more than likely has much better credentials than most coaches in SA and the world. - Angus

      Last week..
    14/07/2008 09:47
he wasn't critisized because he is black!!! It's for the crap team and gameplan he had for Wellington! And the crap he spoke, like Sat after the game: "We know we're not the best..." and "This will probably never happen again... eh eh never be this easy again..." The man wears his boots in his mouth! Stop trying to justify yourselves because of your skin colour! We don't care for his race, only his results and conduct! - Poepol

      Fairness and modesty
    14/07/2008 09:48
DIV is playing with the core of White's team who won playing White's brand of Rugby. I believe DIV did well to keep the core of a winning team together but lets also give some credit to White, who built the team. I also hope for the day when all people will be judged according to their talents and not the color of thier skin. Lets hope DIV keeps the flag flying high. If we win the world cup a comment of one up may well be justified. This race thing is getting tiresome. - Mario

      coach
    14/07/2008 09:48
touche. couldnt have said it better myself.only one difference though, it doesnt matter if u a black or white coach, expectations are always going to be high. look at the criticism that Henry the all black coach is having, they wanted to hang him after the world cup. - jean dunienville

      Well done!
    14/07/2008 09:49
Well done to the Boks! This sort of momentum which they broguth from the WC is just what we need to do to keep on winning. Lots to still work on and they do not have much time to savour the historic victory before they face Oz. To cement this victory in we have to win against Oz as well next weekend. In 1996 we did not do well at all against Nz and Oz after winning the WC. This year is already better with a 80% win record under PdV. Let's hope the Boks can keep it up! - Uysh

      @Jaco
    14/07/2008 09:49
You're talking crap!!! When PDV was appointed you whites were sceptical, without even looking at his credentials (which were better than Jake's)! It's you guys who are making this a race issue. Imagine what wud happen if PDV loses 49-0 to the wallabies...It wud be the end of his career! Remember Strauli. He was given chance after chance and was supported. PDV lost one AWAY game to NZ, and suddenly he's the worst coach ever! Rugby in this country has always been and will always be racial. - Fraud

      Keep eye on the ball
    14/07/2008 09:51
Well done Div,well done lads. Awesome display of courage and commitment. However one cannot..cannot dismiss the impact of White in this instance. He inherited a pile of crap and turned them into the champions they are now. Div inherited a team of champions - he will be measured by his ability to maintain the pain on the opposition. - Smookie

      time for a reality check
    14/07/2008 09:53
It was an excellenr result and a lot of people who commented here on Friday are eating some serious humble pie right now. However those who are saying that PDV has achieved more than Jake White are delusional. There is a long way to go before he can be properly judged on his tenure as Springbok coach. If the ball had bounced the other way on Saturday everyone would be singing a very different tune. Thats how small the margins are in this game. As such he needs tobe given time to develop and mould his team before people start to critisize or praise him. And Ndumiso it was PDV himself and the muppets at SA rugby who pulled the race card when he was critisized by Craig Dowd. I have not heard one supporter using race as a reason for not liking the coach. - patrick bateman
