What party is alternative to ANC? Did you hear what B.Holamiza said on TV last night? I agree with him if you also read the article where an ANC delegate vivited a poor white settlement. They are all part of one party and history has tought us that all of them are in denial as to the problems facing SA. Also read the article of blacks also cinsiddering emmigration? Why? Is it not obvious? The intelligent will seek improved living conditions abroad, while the not-so intelligent will still vote ANC - Matrix |

Wake up Zuma 25/07/2008 08:36
I am one of the people who actually regards Zuma's victory as a victory for human justice and fairness. I am however purtubed by the people who ensured Zuma's victory, especially in the provinces. I live in the Free State and there has been numerous cases taken to the courts agains the leadership. Contrary to the NEC's analysis, these cases were genuine. Comrades are denied membership to disable them from contesting elections. Branch General Meetings are fraudulently held.It is anarchy - Kingzile |

What about a united RSA party, that is not just for... 25/07/2008 08:39
single race, but rather truly reflects the new SA. A party that recognises the crime situation, that BEE(etc) are racist based & abolishes it, etc.etc. I am convinced that if this is done, a number of entrepaneurs will step forward, new investments will follow, and we will all be part of one big happy nation. Will then seriously considder not emmigrating. But alas, this will not happen before we are scheduled to leave. Infighting in ANC will lead to the same as in Zim situation. - Matrix |

Bwahaha! 25/07/2008 08:43
I find this article and other current news extremely funny. Premiers get axed, campaigns towards poor whites (whose been around before penguins moved to Cape Town), Pres. Mbeki pulls out of the Scorpion orgy and all this makes me wonder whether I should go buy milk or rather just stick with dry bread? I guess I should investigate on which side of the fence the cows are grazing, maybe Rasool will establish a new party now for us to vote for? - ElectroMan |

Oh! Poor Sasi 25/07/2008 08:44
When you say we, what are you refering to exactly? I guess you are only refering to so called ANC supporters who take everything that they read in newspapers as gospel truth. For instance, the sacking of the 2 Premiers - if you believe (because the media says so) this has to do with the fact that they belong to the Mbeki Camp - Why the following strong Mbeki loyalists not sacked:
1) Sbu Ndebele - KZN
2) Mbazima Shilowa - Gauteng
3) Sello Moloto - Limpopo

wake what? 25/07/2008 08:45
It's okay of Zuma to sleep, he's after all a populist leader not a true one.I like him because he's surrounded himself with the like of Matthew Phosa(reminder:Mpumalanga province was riddled with corruption during his reign), KZN-ANC leadership(most of them involved on the violence during the 90's), etc.I could go on, but the evidence is obvious he's not a quality leader, but a someone controlled you can controlled by some remote( ask Tokyo how he influence the NEC-his has money). So wake up what! - Thabo |

As a liberation organisation, the ANC cold not afford to be divided. back then, everyone had a common purpose: bringing an end to Apartheid. now that thats over, people have diff. goals: personal wealth etc. And as for the divisions, think back to when Hani and Mbeki were battling it out for the Deputy Presidency - VG |

Oh! Poor Sasi Part 2 25/07/2008 08:59
Why is the Eastern Cape premier being replaced by another loyal Mbeki backer: Economic Affair MEC Mbulelo Sogoni? I agree with you on Malema - This boy needs to go to school to be thought to think before talking. Now, if you support the ANC (& not Zuma, Mbeki etc) like i do, you can write straight to the ANC with all your genuine concerns. Now, all true supporters of this Great Movement, join me in making sure that we +vely re-build the ANC. - The Village Pope |

RASOOL 25/07/2008 08:59
Removing Rasool as head of the ANC in the WCape and as premier was a wrong move and I believe as a result of this the ANC will most defiantly lose ground to the DA and thus might ensure that the DA will be in control of the WCape after the next elections ? the colourd vote is very important in the WCape and I believe Rasool have done a lot to gain the trust of the colourd vote for the ANC since the last elections and now that he is gone it is paries like the DA and the ID which will benefit. - colin |

Leadership 25/07/2008 08:59
That goes to show what leader we are going to have if/when elected the President of the republic. He can't even call to order his comrades. Come 2009 i am going to vote and this time i will use my head not my emotions. Next years elections are of grave concern as our future will be decided. I hope he can redeem himself now before elections, how stupid of ANC TO sack Premiers just before elections, they could have atleast waited for 8 months to do that, they are losing it. As for ANCYL, The less said about them, the better. And they go on the say that removing premiers was a political move, yeah right! Don?t get me wrong, we all want our leader to be held accountable and be sacked if needs be, but the timing of these events is very wrong.8 months!! Is it too much to ask. The new NEC is a disappointment - Bokamoso |

Infighting 25/07/2008 09:01
Assuming the ANC is the people's party, then its real opposition must come from within and, to some extent, from the forces of society, global relations, economics, etc. Accordingly, internal tensions may well be healthy: a process by which the ANC as a whole retains power, yet becomes accountable to its internal tensions - because like it or not those tensions are there to stay. What may transpire is a healthy, albeit ambiguous variation of democracy. - Pete |

The ANC 25/07/2008 09:03
The only way the ANC can be united is that the leadership stop thinking of the movement as a liberation movement, but as a political party. Too many people on the leadership still have the liberation mentality - they want to FIGHT and KILL. That mentality in its self is not wrong, but we need to move away from that and WORK for the benefit of the WHOLE country not just a section of it. - Tebogo |

anc politics 25/07/2008 09:04
divisions in the anc hav always existed, it's a democratic party n differing opinions come with the package. the only difference is the recklessness at which ths is being handled, Zuma's dependance on the youth n the aliance is not helping matters either. i don c unity taking place any tym soon n especially with the Zuma camp trying 2 prove Mbeki is jus as guilty. - yungsta |

ANC fought for freedom 25/07/2008 09:06
The only reason the ANC fought so desperately to end apartheid was for WEALTH and POWER. Do you really think the ANC risked their lives to free black people. I will vote for any opposition party because a "one party state" is very dangerous. - debbie |

Sasi-What are you talking about ? 25/07/2008 09:22
Sasi, you disappointed me, The ANC is divided, however Jacob Zuma, Gwede Mantashe etc. always call for unity of the party, so I do not understand when you say JZ should wake up. It means that he acknowledged that there is a division hence he call for unity now and then. So with that you article is useless and pointless. You must also remember that division is everywhere so me as an ordinary person I will continuously vote for ANC. - Maanda |

Divided parties = Divided communities 25/07/2008 09:27
The leaders in SA will have to come to serious terms in acknowledging that it will take steps from their sides to break down the divisions among communities. ANC will surely loose the Western Cape due to the Rasool move and the IFP and other parties will stand up on higher ground to be counted come next elections. What remains a major problem is that each one of those leaders have to overcome divisions in communities. I believe the NATURAL social development strategist will have the uperhand. - ElectroMan |

What Sasi said in a letter should have been said in a sentence; poorly written article. It is such a joke that voting rights are bestowed on those over a certain age and being in a certain place at a certain time... - Tuffy |

Is it too late 25/07/2008 09:33
At this stage I don't think that there is any order in the ANC organization. The Sub bodies of the ANC are doing their own thing and are not aligned to what the ANC is trying to implement.
We as ordinary people are expected to vote for a seemingly order less organization. It's killing me to see such disorganization. What happened to the quality leaders?
The problem lies with the fact that foresight was the one thing that the ANC did not and still have not had. This is a big disappointment.

Truth be told 25/07/2008 09:34
The ANC (given that they are so hungry for power) that for them to split into two will be best. Competition is always good and will boost the performance among their comarades. Each of the sides will also draw people from other parties and then a natural boost in wanting to perform will emerge. If they do not split, other parties will anyway take their supporters (by chucks) in the next few years to come. - ElectroMan |

Wake up Zuma! 25/07/2008 09:43
well who do you vote for?
the ANC and its alliance were good for the struggle but now the ideaologies drive the great bed fellows aparte. Within this alliance there are all the personal battles going on.
The DA, good at criticising and talk but short on real stand up leadership or putting good ideas on the table.
The IFP, Bantu, ACDC etc are even worse than the latter.
Patricia now there is a leader, but I'd never vote for the lady as I'd lose everything I worked for.

Wake up Zuma, ..... 25/07/2008 09:51
Zuma should stop delaying and obstructing the legal process and drive his case in court with the least delay to prove his innocence to the waiting nation so the country can return to, relative, normality in everyone?s interest - or could it be that he dare not because it will not be in his interest? As far as I am concerned I am quite willing to let him have his term in office despite my (racist?) reservations as my only condition for a leader is competency and integrity to do the right thing. - CePe |

If they remove Sello moloto, S?bu Ndebele and Shilowa now, which will be very detrimental, move for the organisation but case that you have not notice the people your are referring to was ousted from the positions of ANC Chairperson of the province and were replaced by Zuma loyalist, The anc cannot afford to loose Gauteng as well as KZN.Come 2009 all those people you mentioned will be job hunting, and who says that Mbulelo Sogoni is a Mbeki loyalist, your reading politics all wrong my friend, politicians change more than chameleons - Bokamoso |

JZ is intune and insinc with the electorate...dont know where you get it wrong dude 25/07/2008 09:51
Your commentary is good, though it lack the depth in analysis required. In politics, you reward loyalty and punish dissent...what is in it for JZ if he keeps people who are working against his ideas and principles...his downfall will be quick. So, the solution in politics is either to sack, re-deploy or retire the dissenting voices so that those who are willing to work with the new leader do so whole heartedly, there is no room for back-stabbers. I think JZ might turn out to be a better leader - Spider Spike |

democracy 101 25/07/2008 09:56

I am an out and out ANC supporter. I have never considered to vote for any other party as i remember what pains we had to go through in the Apartheid regime ... and most of us in this country have suffered dearly because of that. However, ever since Julius Malema uttered his first word in public ... He has convinced me to consider alternatives! The ANC must pull up their socks and must know that they will lose voters and support should they condone such behavior from the people they put in power - Festa |

What do you understand by education? For the first time in this forum I read the most stupid comment! The very same person that you are saying he is not educated was your deputy president as from 1999 to 2005. And he was also appointed as the MEC of Economic Affairs and Tourism for the KZN provincial government in 1994, and also a premier of KZN, and again in October 1998 he was honoured with the Nelson Mandela Award for Outstanding Leadership in Washington DC and US. Why do you have to bring education? Pls next time you must reserve your comment. - Maanda |

Unity 25/07/2008 10:02
Its naive to think that ANC tensions will rob it of power. Roots run too deep for that to happen. Oppositionism is growing due to disenchantment within the ANC and a maturing democratic state, but factionalism will also impose internal adjustments. Zuma needs unity to secure election so will have to compromise his leftist loyaties, which should bring the party closer to the political demography of the country - so be thankful for the tensions, because they could keep SA from going over the edge. - paula |

What's wrong with losing a few votes? 25/07/2008 10:02
Surely it's not the point of a democratic system to work with 1 party perpetually having an unassailable majority? Then we could just as well not have democracy. Firstly, it is natural for any government to continuously lose votes until defeated. Then the same will happen to the next. Secondly, the inability of South Africans to understand that this is how democracy works, not voting by race ad infinitum, is shocking. Theoretically democracy is subject to an electorate who understands democracy. - Pieter Joubert |

Little knowledge is indeed suicidal, the writer of the article lacks political understanding. In politics, everywhere in the world, loyalty is rewarded. A word or reassurance to the black people on this forum. 25/07/2008 10:28
I'm not sure if it will help banish your fears of apartheid returning, but it seems that many ANC supporters, only support that party for fear of any other race returning and bringing back apartheid. I do not and never will support the ANC, but I will also never support a party that wants to exclude any race from this beautiful country. We want everyone to be equal, and to be given every opportunity to achieve what they are worth. I want Madiba's dream, and I don't believe the ANC does. - Karen |

Perhaps non-ANC people have to learn to adapt to an indigenous form of democracy, where one party can dominate without a loss of democratic tension. Wake up SA 25/07/2008 10:43
Just break away from voting ANC. This country has suffered enough. I agree with MATRIX for starting a new party for SA. Question is when? - Anon |

These endless calls for unity are counter-revolutionary 25/07/2008 10:48
The real revolution was to replace a one-party state with a democracy, wasn't it? The ANC, which is more Movement than Party, should get about 25 years to try implement a new system. For democracy to occur, a political counterweight must eventually arise. There must be competition for the vote, otherwise it's not a democracy. Only the ANC itself can produce that counterweight. If factions don't form, we should begin to worry that our democracy will never develop and that the revolution's a flop! - Pieter Joubert |

ANC 25/07/2008 10:51
The ANC will rule for sometime because of the inability of the oppostion coming up with a policy. They keep telling us that they won't do want the ANC is doing. So their policy is "if it's done by the ANC it is wrong" instead of putting their policy on the table for us to decide. Why should I vote for a REVOLUTION movement, but then why should I vote for a RE-ACTIONARY party. Please give us something to work with. Already planning a drinking session on election day. - Tebogo |

Julius Malema for the DA 25/07/2008 10:59

@Kabelo 25/07/2008 11:03
Kabelo, I pity you. Really, what is the difference between being the slave of a white man or the slave of a black man? You are still a slave. Vote for a party that will deliver for all the people. If they don't, vote them out. Hold politicains accountable for their actions. When they see they are out of government maybe they will try harder for the electorate. - Jim |

Zuma is awake 25/07/2008 11:09
Unfortunately Zuma is awake & hes as good as he will ever get. The same goes for the entire ANC. There is only one answer & that is to vote a new government in. No other party could fail the people so dismally. - Malcolm X |

Sello 25/07/2008 11:12
So, Sello you cannot see that the ANC is destroying the country step by step. To me it looks like they care less about you and you wife around your rural village's woodfire. Ian Smith in the time of Rhodesia took better care of the people than Mugabe today, but still nobody will say put another leader like Ian Smith back in Zim. The ANC will destroy this country, but because they lead the country to "freedom" their leadership may not be questioned. - Dvann |

The ANC will win and the average citizen loses again 25/07/2008 11:15
I dont for one minute doubt that the ANC will win the next election, based purely on sentiment of the supporters. Although it likely to be by a smaller margine. What is really sad, is that the same average voter will then join a protest to denounce the government and its poor service delivery, clearly having no idea that the impact of voting a non delivery party to power, is exactly that. He out loses, again. - AC |

Tebogo said it best 25/07/2008 11:21
Tebogo for president! The ANC is a liberation movement, not a political entity. They have no sound political knowledge (as the past 13 years have proven), they only know how to fight and liberate, which we as South Africans don't really need anymore. Maybe someone should tell them that the struggle is over? - Zee |

ANC a shadow of its former self...... 25/07/2008 11:24
We had ANC leaders of integrity that commanded respect from the rank and file. Now we have a leader that stand accused of fraud, tax evasion, questionable morals and making/singing irresponsible statements/songs. He is as a result surrounded with questionable figures that see an opportunity to flourish or exploit the situation to further their careers and defraud our countries moral standing as evidenced by the loutish behaviour at conferences and branch meetings. Vote with your mind in 2009. - clifton |

What trust ,exactly ,did Rasool gain in coloured people? What exactly did he do for coloureds? Please refresh my memory, the Cape flats are swarming with drug lords, gangsters etc,he supported the arrest of Helen Zille when she marched against crime and drugs. The ANC thinks nothing of coloureds, just used as pawns to secure votes, wake up bra! - fatman |

@ Pieter Joubert et al 25/07/2008 11:45
1.Why do you continue to believe that the ANC's supporters vote purely on the basis of race? If that were true, why does the IFP not have more support? 2.Why do (white) people continue to delude themselves that the ANC gets votes because most black people are uneducated? Uneducated does not equal stupid.People vote for the party they believe in.However I feel abt the ANC, DA/IFP simply dont appeal - VG |

I will 25/07/2008 11:47
be voting DA for sure... ANC, I had faith for a better South Africa, but thanks to your "ethics" I have changed my mind 'ad infinitum'! Zuma is a WOLF in sheep's clothing, people with something better than a peanut would understand this :)
Good luck to the rest of the black sheep...

@petrolhead 25/07/2008 12:04
I thought of doing that, to try and change the ANC from the inside but hey, chances of being stabbed and be shot by a fellow "comrade" is not appealing. Sello, I do agree with you, the weakness of the opposition, their stubborness to change their image and apeal to the majority is failing the country. The ID came close, but they made a blunder for me by sleeping with DA in Cape Town. That's like voting DA. There is still some time before making up mind but Azapo is the only option for me. - Z |

Tired of BS 25/07/2008 12:08
Money is the cause of all the divisions within the anc and are all rooted in greed and corruption.Do not be fooled by promises,as most politicians only have one agenda and that is to make lots of money. The divisions which are being perpetuated between colours and affiliations are all just a screen to mask incompetency and greed. As long as people feel indebted to the leading party nothing will change,as they know whatever they do they will always receive the votes.Zuma is just more of the same. - frank |

@ Sello 25/07/2008 12:27
It is because of your attitude that there is no viable opposition. The ANC will win the next election - no question. So, vote for another party, any party. If enough people do that, we will at least have enough of an opposition to pressure the ANC into cleaning up its act. - Wiseman |

Crumbling ANC 25/07/2008 12:39
Under Madiba, the ANC had good, sincere intentions. Even if didn't perform, there was promise. We were a happy nation.
Under Mbeki, crime, corruption, etc reached new highs. The new leaders seem to be interested more in the money and power. They're not interested in serving the needs of the people. We are now a sad, disappointed nation.

@Neil 25/07/2008 12:40
Its comments like this "If it was not for us you would most probably still be counting your chickens in the bush!" that will ensure that the ANC rules this country for a long time. Let me be a racist: I don't think that the ANC should be loosing sleep about the minority groups who claim to have voted for it in the last elections. What the ANC needs ( & they are fully aware) is to take the party back to |
