Q&A with Cape Town Kid
26/08/2008 16:05 - (SA)
Cape Town - News24 chats to another regular commenter. Cape Town Kid tells us more about her life and what she thinks about the future of SA.
1. Age, sex, location.
Age - I will go as far as saying that I am still a youth but will keep the number a secret.
Sex - Female
Location - Residing in Cape Town
2. What do you do for a living?
I am in financial management
3. You're one of the few women who comment on MyNews24. Why do you think that is?
I know many women who express themselves very strongly and articulately on a range of issues. Why don't you see them on this forum? I will venture and say that the women I am talking about do not have a computer or luxuries of this nature. On the flip side, maybe the quasi-elitists are once again leaving it to us to do all the "work" while they sit back and act like madams.
4. Your alias is "Cape Town Kid". Many people who respond to your comments assume you're male. Are you OK with that assumption?
I don't really care simply because it confirms how superficial people really are. They are so disinterested in their fellow human beings.
5. Tell us more about you - what life experiences inform your political views?
I am a product of the student uprising hence will always be an activist even though I am fortunate enough to work. I grew up in an area that produced heroes such as Ashley Kriel, Anton Fransch, Christopher Truter and many others. Their deaths, my parents' struggles and my community's struggles have left me with a deep sense that I too, must assist and do whatever I can, beyond my own capabilities.
The work has only just begun and henceforth I must remain focused and stay involved in order for me to bring about my own "sacrifice" to right that which was wrong. I firmly believe we still have much to overcome!
6. Which political party (ANC, DA etc) do you support? Or are you an apolitical person?
As a South African, you cannot be apolitical. That is nonsense. How can anyone come from such a traumatic political past and profess to be apolitical?
I have and will always support the ANC.
7. Who do you think should be the next president of South Africa? Why?
As a disciplined member of the ANC, I will support JZ. I support him because we resolved collectively that JZ is our presidential candidate.
8. Are you optimistic about the country's future? Would you leave SA if things got bad? If yes, where would you go?
I have always been optimistic of our country. I carry all my ancestors' dreams of a better future with me. I will work towards that actively. I am not a defeatist. There is still much that needs to be done and I cannot be sitting on my laurels whingeing and whingeing and expect someone else to work towards a better SA. Africa is in my blood, finish and klaar. So I don't see myself leaving this beautiful continent.
9. If you could invite three MyNews24 commenters over for dinner, who would they be and why?
I would invite Juan, Proud to be white, John Camp, the likes of those. Why? Because someone needs to teach them some manners and respect. The dinner table is one of the best places to teach this basic of practices.
10. What do you think of the comments on MyNews24? Do you think it's good to have so many differing points of view?
A snapshot of the views will tell you that it is only a certain section of the SA diaspora that expresses themselves on this forum. There is no way that it is the dominant view, far from it. But interestingly for all those who profess that they are of a generation that did not oppress people, the very same respondents carry a lot of hate. Therein lies another contradiction!
Conclusion, our society still has many contradictions some of which are still unconsciously promoted but I still believe there will be a time when we will all agree that we're in this together and that there is only one path to building this wonderful nation of ours.
