  • Cape Town - News24 chats to another regular commenter. Cape Town Kid tells us more about her life and what she thinks about the future of SA.

    1. Age, sex, location.

Age - I will go as far as saying that I am still a youth but will keep the number a secret.
    Sex - Female
Location - Residing in Cape Town

    2. What do you do for a living?

    I am in financial management

    3. You're one of the few women who comment on MyNews24. Why do you think that is?

I know many women who express themselves very strongly and articulately on a range of issues. Why don't you see them on this forum? I will venture and say that the women I am talking about do not have a computer or luxuries of this nature. On the flip side, maybe the quasi-elitists are once again leaving it to us to do all the "work" while they sit back and act like madams.

    4. Your alias is "Cape Town Kid". Many people who respond to your comments assume you're male. Are you OK with that assumption?

I don't really care simply because it confirms how superficial people really are. They are so disinterested in their fellow human beings.

    5. Tell us more about you - what life experiences inform your political views?

I am a product of the student uprising hence will always be an activist even though I am fortunate enough to work. I grew up in an area that produced heroes such as Ashley Kriel, Anton Fransch, Christopher Truter and many others. Their deaths, my parents' struggles and my community's struggles have left me with a deep sense that I too, must assist and do whatever I can, beyond my own capabilities.

The work has only just begun and henceforth I must remain focused and stay involved in order for me to bring about my own "sacrifice" to right that which was wrong. I firmly believe we still have much to overcome!

    6. Which political party (ANC, DA etc) do you support? Or are you an apolitical person?

As a South African, you cannot be apolitical. That is nonsense. How can anyone come from such a traumatic political past and profess to be apolitical?

I have and will always support the ANC.

    7. Who do you think should be the next president of South Africa? Why?

As a disciplined member of the ANC, I will support JZ. I support him because we resolved collectively that JZ is our presidential candidate.

    8. Are you optimistic about the country's future? Would you leave SA if things got bad? If yes, where would you go?

I have always been optimistic of our country. I carry all my ancestors' dreams of a better future with me. I will work towards that actively. I am not a defeatist. There is still much that needs to be done and I cannot be sitting on my laurels whingeing and whingeing and expect someone else to work towards a better SA. Africa is in my blood, finish and klaar. So I don't see myself leaving this beautiful continent.

    9. If you could invite three MyNews24 commenters over for dinner, who would they be and why?

I would invite Juan, Proud to be white, John Camp, the likes of those. Why? Because someone needs to teach them some manners and respect. The dinner table is one of the best places to teach this basic of practices.

    10. What do you think of the comments on MyNews24? Do you think it's good to have so many differing points of view?

A snapshot of the views will tell you that it is only a certain section of the SA diaspora that expresses themselves on this forum. There is no way that it is the dominant view, far from it. But interestingly for all those who profess that they are of a generation that did not oppress people, the very same respondents carry a lot of hate. Therein lies another contradiction!

Conclusion, our society still has many contradictions some of which are still unconsciously promoted but I still believe there will be a time when we will all agree that we're in this together and that there is only one path to building this wonderful nation of ours.

      Hypocrite
    26/08/2008 16:27
Ironically , yours are of the most hateful comments I read on this forum. You have no respect for other points of view and tar everybody with the same brush making sweeping , often unfair and unfounded generalisations (you often make comments like "you people are all idiots"). You often play the man and not the ball, resorting to cheap personal attacks and insults. You blindly follow the ANC no matter how poorly it performs ("and will always support the ANC", even if it hurts the people of this country), exposing your own inability to make informed decisions on your own, rubbishing all anti-ANC comments as those of hateful racist whites. I don't pay too much attention though to comments like yours, they only inspire division and further hate between South Africans of different races. Your comments are more like rants than useful debate (kinda like my comment to you - only makes you hate me more, doesn't it). - OB1

      You, my dear..
    26/08/2008 16:32
will never be able to teach me manners. Please don't mistake opposition as being bad mannered. Regarding respect, respect is earned and you still have some way to go to achieve that. - John Camp

      Eish!!!
    26/08/2008 16:35
Maybe this is why there are so few female commentators... - ramone

      Thank you OB1
    26/08/2008 16:35
    'nuff said! - John Camp

      Interesting
    26/08/2008 16:35
It's nice to find out more about you. I must say that I sometimes find it hard to follow your comments on News24. It's almost like some of the comment is still in your head and some is on the page. Like when someone starts talking after they have been thinking a long time and you need them to back up a little to understand the context. Maybe it's just me. See you on the forum. - Rian

      Bored
    26/08/2008 16:40
After Question 7 i got highly bored sounds like another politician. - Fumier!

      Cape Town kid.
    26/08/2008 16:40
Hey Cape Town Kid I ALSO thought you were a man. Good to hear that you support the party's decision that JZ is our President unlike some bitter folks here who always claims that they won't be voting the ANC because they don't like JZ ignoring the fact that its not about JZ but the ANC that should Govern. They still think that TM should be a President HAHAAAAAAAA. - Oscar

      Age does matter
    26/08/2008 16:43
I would have liked to know how old you are as your writing indicated an age of about 22 to 25. Now a person at that age cannot acclaim to being an liberator. In your dreams girl. But if i can advise, go and read what transpired through the 40 years of apartheid and then sit down and ask yourself. Are the people of SA better of living day by day. Apartheid was evil and a total disgrace to mankind, but it is over. - KAC

      Is that you?
    26/08/2008 16:52
I find it hard to believe these answers are actually your words, Cape Town Kid, purely because I can barely ever understand most of the comments you post; in fact, because of that, I definitely thought of you as a 'kid'. But perhaps you're always just eager to leap into a heated debate and don't worry too much about structuring your arguments. - D

      @OB1
    26/08/2008 16:54
I have a word for you. Maybe to you the ANC performs poorly but to us (former oppressed)the ANC have done very welL in 14 years of ruling then what your apartheid NP Government did to us in many years of ruling. - Oscar

      OMG a woman?
    26/08/2008 16:58
Can still understand a man following the ANC so blindly and resolutely, but a woman? Did the hatred you carry blind you completely to the communist drivel. You are an individual and as such can say NO, I do not agree. BUT this means everybody around you also has that right - democracy gave us that! Age might also bring you some wisdom, that respect is earned and is not a right. - MJS

      ALUTA CONTINUA
    26/08/2008 17:00
The struggle continues! We will keep on struggling against people like Juan, Kolobe, John Camp etc that wants to disown us from what is rightfully ours! - Rhapelang

      ABSOLUTE HYPOCRITE!!!
    26/08/2008 17:05
You and Kolobe are the worst at enforcing stereotypes and generalisations and blatant hatred (especially towards whites) Couldn't agree with OB1 more! Are you even aware that white people are people too, and deserve as much respect and love..etc as black people!? You don't seem to! - Dave the Brave!

      Cape Towm chick
    26/08/2008 17:06
Hey Cape Town Chick....how about a date so that we can chat...I enjoy your arguments...how about I take you out for a drink.. - Kolobe

      Paleeeese!!!!!
    26/08/2008 17:14
To think that I wasted my time reading this....awww man! I'm so much poorer for it. I'm actually going to take my certain section of my South African diaspora and go and kick it around the backyard. Cape Town kid who gave you the entitlement to teach anyone manners and respect. Your superiority-complex belies your deep rooted intolerant "I'll teach you a lesson" smugness that is becoming a hallmark of you and your party. - mac

      Q&A with Cape town kid
    26/08/2008 17:22
... WHO CARES?? - waste of bandwidth

Where have I met you before
    26/08/2008 17:27
Is it just me, or did you use to comment on "Homecoming Revolution?" Before they closed down the blog-function due to too many "negative" comments... Please consider openining your eyes and have a look around and maybe realise that the "struggle" has only just begun. Only this time it's within the ANC and will take this country down faster than Apartheid could ever have. JZ is the last person any of us should endorse, let-alone follow! - Cpt Crunch

      Hmmm...
    26/08/2008 17:33
I have to agree with others here - CTK is one of most acerbic commenters on News24 and generally posts comments full of vitriol and largely or entirely devoid of substance. I find it particularly ironic that someone who displays no respect for anyone who does not agree with their views believes they can teach others about respect. Fortunately I love irony :-) - CTheB

Long time reader, first time responder.
    26/08/2008 18:06
Your youth shines through and I hope it is youth for your sake because if you are over 25, you've missed an important part of your development. Your social ideas and analysis of people are mind numbingly simplistic at best, tediously repetitious at worst. Using whole sale words like, quasi- elitist and diaspora do not make you sound intelligent. Your beautiful optimism for our future is implausible as your views appear to be deeply rooted in our collective late unpleasantness. What concerns me most regarding your posts is your unhealthy, morbid, borderline-obsessive fear of white people or would that be people with a different view. I think you have potential provided you start doing some thinking for yourself and as Desmond Tutu said ?close the door on the past .? - iBlog101

      Cape Town Joke!!
    26/08/2008 18:30
I think OB1 summed you up best! Im not at all surprised that you hide your age. Judging by the general use of grammar and spelling in your comments I think its safe to assume that you are nothing more than around 20 y.o. Just like your average Zimbabwean war veteran, you can only wish you could quote those as your life experiences. I personally hold no regard for any comments made by you and dismiss practically all of your sentiments on the spot. You personify the failings of this country and its leadership with your arrogant, ignorant, im-owed-everything stance. - anon

      Constructive Criticism
    26/08/2008 22:01
I researched some of your comments and don't really find it hateful, although I don't necessarily agree with your comments. But, as they say, to each his own. Please see this as constructive criticism: if you want to be taken seriously, you have to improve on your writing skills. It might be o.k. sending a sms with words such as cuz, becos or yr but does your credibility damage in a forum like this. Ask yourself this: Would I write a letter to an investor using this language? - HRHBeetjie

      lost interest

after question 2!! please put something up thats interesting - roberto

      Is this Malema?
    27/08/2008 08:23
Your comments are not much different to those from Malema, are you his sister? - 50%Single

      why do you interview
    27/08/2008 08:27
a person who by their own admission doesnt think for themselves? And even in an interview engages in her usual ad hominem arguments and political spin. Please, if you must do Q and A make it with someone who's opinions will challenge our points of view. I'll send you the invoice for the waste of ten minutes of my time. - mallencolly

      Political affiliation
    27/08/2008 08:46
Supporting the ANC is your choice of course, but stating that you will ALWAYS support a party (any party) for ever no matter what, just shows the luncay of your thinking. YOu always have to take into account a party failing, any party. Your vote is NOT free, you just think it is. - AJ

Cape Town Kid - you Rock
    27/08/2008 08:48
Cape Town Kid as you said - A snapshot of the views will tell you that it is only a certain section of the SA diaspora that expresses themselves on this forum. There is no way that it is the dominant view - this is clear on the responses on your interview and the klein bassie and miesise will give you a verbal wedgie and this is what frustrates me at times that this forum most of the time is one-sided and one dimensional and most defiantly not the dominant view within our society. - colin
