Olympic 400H champ crashes out

Athens - Olympic champion Angelo Taylor of the United States crashed out of the 400 metres hurdles on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old clipped the penultimate hurdle, losing his momentum and went from second to fourth behind world champion Felix Sanchez, but his time was not good enough to be one of the two fastest losers.

The man he edged out of gold in Sydney in 2000, Saudi Arabia's Hadi Soua An Al-Soumaily, fared worse, finishing fifth in the same heat.

One heat later and South Africa's Olympic bronze medallist Llewellyn Herbert was also out, finishing fifth in a race won by Jamaica's Danny McFarlane.

Ockert Cilliers also crashed out, finishing sixth in heat three.

But there was better news for the third South African, Alwyn Myburgh, who ran 48.21 seconds to finish third in heat one and get through as one of the fastest losers.
