Tevez ends wait for gold
Athens - Argentina's footballers won their country's first Olympic Games gold medal for 52 years on Saturday with a 1-0 win over South American rivals Paraguay in a bruising final.
Pint-sized striker Carlos Tevez, with his eighth goal of the tournament, was Argentina's hero as his team won a first ever football gold while Paraguay ended the tournament in disgrace having two players red-carded.
Tevez, just 20, struck early in the first half of a final Argentina dominated and in which they kept their impressive record of not having conceded a goal in the tournament.
Paraguay went into the match already handicapped by the absence of injured top-scorer Jose Cardozo who had grabbed five of his team's 12 goals on their way into the final.
Argentina, who left Barcelona star Javier Saviola on the bench, were fired by history.
Despite collecting two World Cups, they had never managed to win Olympic gold with just two silver medals to show in 1928 and 1996.
