Legend Kindelan quits
Athens - Mario Kindelan of Cuba gave 17-year-old Amir Khan of Britain a boxing lesson in Sunday's Olympic lightweight (60kg) final and then hung up his gloves.
"It's time to pass the baton to the next generation," said the best lightweight in the world, amateur or professional.
The 33-year-old three-time world champion has been boxing for 19 years.
Kindelan has won every tournament he has entered since the Pan American Games of 1999, including Olympic gold in Sydney and three world titles.
If he had accepted the million dollar offers from American promoters he could be living in a Miami penthouse now instead of Havana.
"I said at Sydney I would box one more Olympics and I'm keeping my word," added Kindelan.
"He's a legend," said Khan's coach Terry Edwards. "Pound for pound the best in the world." - Sapa-AFP
