US pip Aus for basketball gold
Athens - The United States won the women's basketball gold medal at the Athens Olympics on Saturday, defeating Australia 74-63 in the final.
It was the third consecutive Olympic gold medal for the US women, a Dream Team of top Women's National Basketball Association players, and the fifth in the past six Games for the Americans.
The Aussies settled for the silver medal for the second Olympics in a row, having lost to the US women in the 2000 final at Sydney.
Russia defeated Brazil 71-62 to claim the bronze medal.
