Doping lawyers in Athens

Athens - Three US prosecutors investigating the affair of US laboratory BALCO were in Athens on Wednesday to pass on information regarding Greek doping suspects Kostadinos Kenteris and Ekaterini Thanou to authorities here, Greek judiciary sources said.

The Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO), is accused of distributing illegal performance enhancing drugs - including the once-undetectable steroid tetrahydrogestrinone (THG).

According to a report in US paper San Jose Mercury News, BALCO officials had been in touch with Christos Tzekos, coach of the two Greek sprint stars who were forced to quit the Athens Olympics after failing to show up at a drugs test on August 12, a day before the Games' opening.

The Greek prosecutors have opened an inquiry into the affair, including a mysterious motorbike accident which the two Greek athletes claimed prevented them from returning to the Olympic athlete's village after being convoked for the test.
