Unions demand treatment
01/12/2002 18:25 - (SA)
Johannesburg - Labour movements said on Sunday that workers should have access to the best possible treatment for HIV and Aids, including antiretroviral drugs where required.
The unions said South Africa's citizens, including workers, had a right to, among others, accurate and understandable information about HIV and Aids.
"We will also strengthen our own campaigns on awareness, education and solidarity, using our own education units, internal media and meetings, and work to establish sites for voluntary counselling and testing," the unions said in a joint statement.
The declaration came after leaders, shop stewards and officials from more than 20 unions, including the Congress of SA Trade Unions (Coastu) and the National Council of Trade Unions, met in the city to discuss HIV/Aids issues.
