HIV-sufferer: Manto is right

Johannesburg - Doctor Manto Tshabalala-Msimang is spot on when she says people should use garlic, pumpkinseeds, lemon juice and vitamins to ward off the HIV virus.
This sudden support for the beleaguered minister of health, came from Reverend Christo Greyling from Pretoria, one of the country's most famous people living with Aids.
Greyling was diagnosed with HIV in 1987 and these days his work includes the training of Aids workers. He recently returned from visits to Zimbabwe and Malawi.
He said the foods and supplements to which the minister referred to as defences against Aids, were definitely helpful as they strengthened the body's immune to help fight the virus.
"But there comes a time when the supplements recommended by Doctor Manto are not enough any more. Then anti-retrovirals must be used as well. I know, because I've already reached that stage in the disease."
"At this stage I am using both. I use the immune system boosters like the ones referred to by the minister, but I also use anti-retroviral medication. It is clear to me that the two complement each other. Is a matter of fact, the garlic and other supplements improve the effect of the anti-retrovirals."
"So, yes doctor Manto is right, up to a point."
