UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has warned governments against using the economic crisis as an excuse to cut funding for fighting Aids.
Johannesburg - The Anglican Church is to launch a Southern African HIV/AIDS educational programme at a cost of $10m (about R60m).
Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane and senior bishop David Beetge met deputy president Jacob Zuma in Johannesburg to brief him on the proposed five-year programme.
The church said the programme would be sponsored by the United States government, as part of its president's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief.
The programme, called Siyafundisa ("Teaching Our Children"), is aimed at preventing the spread of HIV and Aids through promoting abstinence among young people.
Siyafundisa, as with other HIV and Aids-related initiatives of the church, will not be restricted to Anglicans.
