Aids the 'biggest challenge'

Cape Town - The Public Services' ability to deal with HIV and Aids is the biggest challenge it faces, Public Service Commission (PSC) chairperson Stan Sangweni said on Wednesday.
"Undoubtedly, the biggest challenge facing the public service in the area of human resource management is its ability to deal with HIV/Aids in the workplace," he told a media briefing at parliament.
He said about 10% of public servants were affected by HIV and Aids-related illnesses.
Elaborating on the issue, PSC director-general Mpume Sikhosana said despite a lot of debate on the methodology used for various studies on the prevalence of HIV and Aids, certain sectors within the public service appeared to be more affected than others.
He said the disease was most prevalent among teachers and members of the police.
"There does seem to be a high incident in those professions," he said.
