TAC seeks Rath interdict
13/05/2005 08:42 - (SA)
Cape Town - The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) is to seek an urgent interdict against Matthias Rath, a vitamin entrepreneur, in the Cape High Court on Friday morning.
SABC radio news reported Rath claims that the TAC is a front for the pharmaceutical industry and that antiretrovirals are ineffective treatment for HIV/Aids.
The TAC says Rath is undermining the TAC in order to promote his multi-vitamins as alternative HIV/Aids treatment.
The Medicines Control Council and the department of health are investigating Rath for allegedly running unregistered medical practices in Khayelitsha.
In recent weeks Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, the minister of health, has said she does not remember endorsing Matthias Rath's health foundation.
Cosatu and the Harvard University School of Public Health have also criticised Rath.
The Traditional Healers Association is expected to march to the court. Some traditional healers have been touting herbal "cures" for HIV/Aids.
