Pretoria - President George W Bush will be able to flex his muscles in the boardroom and in the hotel next week.
All thanks to a R100 000 gymnasium installed especially for his use in the Sheraton Hotel & Towers in Pretoria, where he will be staying. He will meet President Thabo Mbeki and several other leaders during his African visit.
A spokesperson for Planet Fitness says the treadmill alone, the newest model on the market, costs R70 000.
Bush advocates fitness and demands it from himself and his immediate associates. He announced a countrywide fitness programme in the United States in June last year.
At the time he said: "I encourage White House staff members to train daily. I insist that my personnel do exercise every day. I don't care when they do it, but they have to make time to exercise."
He says people who do daily exercise, communicate better and enjoy their work more.
A report from the American health department says nearly 40% of all American adults do not exercise at all. Inactivity leads to poor health and high health costs.
The report says overweight Americans spend 36% more on health products and 77% more on medicine compared to people of normal weight.
