Criminals 'poisoning dogs'
28/03/2008 14:32 - (SA)
Johannesburg - There has been an alarming increase in dog poisoning by criminals lurking in SA's suburbs, an armed response company said on Friday.
"A number of incidents of dog poisoning have been reported to Chubb services and the police. Dog owners need to be vigilant for any suspicious visitors in and around the communities," Chubb services said in a statement.
Last week, 11 dogs were fed rat poisoning placed in meat in Ballito, on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast.
Chubb urged dog owners to keep their animals locked inside the house at night and to train them not to take food from strangers.
"Criminals line meat with rat poison and throw it over the fence. If an owner suspects the dog has been poisoned, the dog must be rushed to a vet immediately," the statement said.
