'Muslim murder' case postponed
31/03/2003 17:53 - (SA)
Johannesburg - The case of five men alleged to have murdered Fatima Momade and her daughter Nazia Issa was postponed in the Protea magistrate's court on Monday for further investigation.
Wahid Shekh, 24, and his four co-suspects face two provisional charges of murder, one of attempted murder and charges under the Firearms Act in what has been dubbed by Johannesburg media as the "Muslim murders" case.
The bodies of Momade, 44, and her daughter, 13, were found dumped by Potchefstroom Road near Lenasia earlier this month. A younger daughter survived the shooting.
Momade and her daughters were both wearing traditional Muslim garb when they were found.
A relative of Momade said she came to South Africa in search of a better life for her children. In her last phone call to her father in Maputo, she complained about being harassed by someone she described as "an Asian man".
Prosecutor Leon Ehlers obtained a postponement to April 4, when a date may be set for a bail application.
