Bike crash claims woman

Johannesburg - A woman died and two people were seriously injured on Sunday when two motorcycles crashed into the back of a bakkie on the R512 north of Johannesburg.

Five people were travelling on the back of the light delivery van when the accident occurred.

A couple were travelling on one of the motorcycles while two other people were travelling on another motorcycle.

The wreckage burst into flames.

Netcare spokesperson Mandy Toubkin said on Sunday that a 13-year-old girl who was sitting on the back of the bakkie was in the intensive care unit at the Sunninghill Hospital.

"The dead woman's husband was also in the intensive care unit."

Two other people travelling on the other motorcycle were injured but treated and discharged.

The R512 is a popular road for motorcyclists making their weekly Sunday morning "breakfast run" to Hartebeespoort Dam.
