Philippolis - A brave little dachshund has saved her three-year-old owner from being attacked by a poisonous Cape cobra.
The snake was barely 30cm from Elsje-Marie Lombard, 3, when she saw it and started to scream.
Emsie, the dachshund, who is always by her side, grabbed the snake by the tail.
The dog shook the snake a couple of times before throwing it away from her owner, allowing Elsje-Marie to run to her mother.
Elsje-Marie's father, Jacques, heard her screams and arrived just in time to see Emsie throwing the snake through the air. He killed the snake.
The little girl and her dog escaped unharmed.
Elsje-Marie had a previous encounter with a snake when a puffadder nearly bit her when she was a baby.
The family, whose house is next to an open field, has often found snakes and iguanas in the garden and house.
