Polokwane - Two elderly Limpopo women were raped when they refused to hand over their pension money to two thugs who broke into their home.
Two men broke into the home of the elderly mother and daughter, aged 89 and 64, in Makurung village in Lebowakgomo near Polokwane (formerly Pietersburgt) at the weekend.
Captain Mohale Ramatseba of Central police said: "The intruders demanded the pension money the women had recently collected and raped them when the women said the money had been taken to the bank."
The men also stole R20, which was all the women had on them.
Also on Saturday night, an unknown man broke into a 41-year-old woman's house at Kutupu village in Hlogotlou about 23:00 and raped her.
In Makgofe village the same night, five men gang-raped a 27-year-old woman after confronting her and her husband in the street about 21:00.
Jailed for 20 years
In Seshego Zone 3, a housemate stabbed and raped his 22-year-old friend.
No one has been arrested yet for any of the five rapes.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested, however, for taking an 18-year-old girl to his house in Sengatane village and raping her for the whole of Saturday night.
He is due to appear in Seshego magistrate's court soon.
On Friday, a 37-year-old man was jailed for 20 years for raping a 53-year-old woman after breaking into her hut at Merry People Stream and stealing tobacco and R50.
