Pretoria - A Pretoria man in his early 30s was shot dead on Sunday following an argument over the Bafana Bafana game against Ivory Coast, Pretoria police said on Monday.
Inspector Percy Morokane said the soccer fan and another man, also in his early 30s, were both watching the game at a friend's house in Soshanguve north of the city.
After the game, the two began arguing. The owner of the house foresaw trouble and immediately escorted one of them home, Morokane said.
The escorted man, however, returned to the house moments later.
Morokane said the home owner was busy in the kitchen when he heard the two shouting once again. Before he could intercede, shots were fired.
The police and paramedics were called, but the victim was already dead when they arrived.
They arrested the surviving man and confiscated his licensed gun.
He will appear in court shortly.
