Ex-con held for murder

Vrede - A burglar, who was recently released from prison, has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of a businessman and former mayor of the town early on Sunday morning.
The body of Dick Roux, 62, was found in his back garden in the early hours on the morning.
He was apparently hit with a piece of iron and possibly stabbed with a knife when he investigated after hearing the alleged burglars on his property.
Several items were missing from his home.
Just hours after the body was found, one of the alleged murderers was arrested. Police recovered Roux's cellphone and a ring.
The suspect, 18, was released from the youth correctional facility in Kroonstad a few weeks ago where he served time for housebreaking, theft and escape.
Residents of the town were up in arms on Sunday over the killing and the recent spate of burglaries and crime in the town.
