Cop kills toy gun robber

Pretoria - A murder charge is being investigated against a military policeman from Wynberg in the Cape after he allegedly shot and killed a suspected robber, who was armed with a toy gun, in Pretoria.

Captain Piletji Sebola, police spokesperson, said a gang of seven overpowered the policeman, 31, and his 29-year-old girlfriend in Atteridgeville on Saturday.

One of the attackers pointed a gun at the couple and demanded that they hand over their possessions.

The defence force member handed over his money, while his girlfriend ran away.

"When the attackers insisted on searching the defence force member, he apparently took out a gun and fired several shots," Sebola said.

His attackers ran away, but one of them was fatally wounded.

Police are investigating a charge of armed robbery against the gang, but have not apprehended the other six suspects yet.
