Man dies in high-speed chase

Johanesburg - A high-speed chase between police and a man in an allegedly stolen car ended in Soweto when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and rammed head-on into an oncoming car.
He was killed instantly and, according to Captain Mbazima Shiburi, emergency workers had to use the jaws of life to retrieve his body. The accident happened on Klipvalley Road in Soweto.
Shiburi said a person involved in the smash was taken to hospital in a serious condition, adding that police had confirmed the car they had been chasing had been reported stolen.
Shiburi said that when the driver of the stolen car saw police were following him, he started shooting. They returned fire and the man lost control of the vehicle.
